Morphies Law is a game in which size does matter. We can say that it is very innovative, but it needs more things. Not only in a specific part, but in everything in general. We could say that the game has left us wanting more.

While Morphies Law lacks the grandeur of Splatoon 2 and the F2P gratification of Fortnite, there’s no denying that its mass-shifting gimmick has legs - giant ones, at that. It just needs the right kind of post-launch TLC from its developer and some smart adjustments to both net code and player progression. With added gyro controls making the most of those Joy-Cons (should you want to gather mass via motion controls) and support for local play with up to eight players (as opposed to online's four), this indie shooter has the potential to grow into a genuine sleeper hit.

Morphies Law stands out for its concept which is more than worthy of the player's attention. Featuring a fun and original gameplay and free of any microtransactions, Morphies Law brings forth an enjoyable multiplayer experience for up to eight players. Where it fails to impress is on the amount of content (or lack thereof) and limitations on its multiplayer component, which harm the game's long term potential.

If not for light content and clunky online, Morphies Law would stand out on the Switch indie scene. Offline, the unique size-changing gameplay works very well and the available maps and modes are encouraging. The game will be much easier to recommend if online stability and more content are ever added via DLC in the future. In the meantime, though, if you have several Switch-owning friends who can get together for some download play, or if you just really want to run around with misshapen offline bots, then Morphies Law may be a worthy addition to your library.

Morphies Law is the rare multiplayer game these days where the offline mode is the vastly superior option. While one may be able to recommend the game based on solo strength alone, the online issues need TLC. But even outside of that, a small number of equally small maps hinders what is otherwise a unique premise that has the potential for a fun and insane shooter with a ton of customization options. There’s enjoyment to still be had here, but you may be wishing for the game to morph into something better.

All in all, I just didn’t really have fun playing Morphie’s Law, which is a real shame. The great amount of detail that went into the design and aesthetic is phenomenal, with beautiful visuals and a killer soundtrack to boot. Unfortunately the gameplay just doesn’t live up to the rest, and even the premise doesn’t ever really feel more than a novelty. A future update could potentially fix a lot of these issues, but as it stands I have a hard time recommending Morphie’s Law.

A broken game that really isn't worth your time, especially when Splatoon already does all of this extraordinarily better. [Issue #36 – November/December 2018, p. 19]

Seeing the lack of variety in the design of these is one way [Morphies Law] falls short of the games that inspired it.

Morphie's Law is not without its good points. The game does run pretty well and the cosmetic customisation options do offer enough flexibility to make a unique dummy. What is worse than having to endure matches of Morphie's Law, though, is how its balanced since having to buy anything with the in-game currency takes an absurd amount of time to accrue. Just stick to Splatoon 2 and its DLC.

There’s a lot of promise to Morphies Law, but there’s also a lot of frustration for the ways it fails to meet this promise. As you play it, you find yourself noticing more and more things that feel like they should be there to help you enjoy what the developer came up with, but it’s not there, so it winds up feeling empty, lifeless, and unclear as to what you’re doing. A cool idea will get you partway there, but without the right follow-through, it just winds up being a game you’re not interested in playing much longer.

Morphies Law is a laughable game. But you laugh at it, not with it. If the mass transfer might be a very well-thought alternative to the TPS genre, the game's physics and unstable controls will irritate the most patient of gamers. Its three varied modes might have been a good excuse to grind and try the different weapons offered by the game, but it might by quite difficult to enjoy Morphies Law other than being passably drunk.

Saddled by amateurish design, unskilled gunplay, and technical issues, Morphies Law fails as an online shooter. The game does have a great core concept and aesthetic, but it just falls short at every step. Not even its robust offline mode and customization system can prop up a shooter too flawed to receive even a feeble recommendation.

A fun gimmick is hampered by a lack of polish and structural issues, making this a transformative shooter with serious growing pains.

Below average shooting mechanics, bland level design and a general lack of variety in gameplay between the different modes keeps the game from realizing its full potential.

The hook is great (shoot/shrink parts on other players and grow your own), but it feels the downside of being a larger target vastly outweighs any physical buffs, and the maps are just too small (think Drawn to Death sized maps) to really implement layered strategy with any success. So it just feels like a "pray and spray" formula.

Positives: No pay to win crap, and some good customization for characters although in the end it just ends up looking like a "dia de los muertos" costume party either way. Sound is great, it all has that animated/cartoony vibe and that seems to fit the pace of the game well.

The other major positive is the cost - and the fact that it's (currently) Switch exclusive. For $20 you could do worse, there is a good amount of charm here so if that's a sell factor for you - have at it.

Unfortunately the lack of polished shooting mechanics (at least in the early stages of the game), couple with small, disorienting maps and lackluster game modes means this multiplayer shooter has a ways to go before wowing any hardcore fans of the genre. 6/10

At this point in time, the game is a mess.
    Laggy, unstable and broken.
The Player Avatar stutters and jitters when they come in contact with moving parts of the stage or stage traps.
    The game lags like hell.
Being hit gives only very lackluster feedback, which in combination with the lag makes it impossible to react appropriately against enemies from the flanks or the side.

The weapons feel weak and dodgy and the game has on overall amateurish feel to it.
It just seems cobbled together, unfinished more akin to an early access game.

While the Idea is nice and the game has a certain charm, the flaws are just to much for me.
    Can't recommend.

Flaws suchSimply put, this is fun and has a lot of fresh ideas to get to that 19.99 value. It of course, as any game does, have some flaws. Flaws such as only having four maps, albeit beautiful and well crafted with size hi jinks, there's only four which can get boring pretty fast. The game has a variety of customization which is actually surprising , such as appearance, loadouts, ultimate abilities, and a special power. Game types are incredibly fun surprisingly and it's hilarious stealing mass from you or even your teammates. One second you're a massive construct, the next second you're small enough to enter mice tunnels.

Online play is fun, but can get choppy with frames and latency/lag. Not game breaking though, but it does sometime compromise the full experience. Otherwise, it's pretty much worth the Jackson.
