My very first Monster Hunter game. Well sort of. I tried World from a friend when the craze was high and the Generations Ultimate demo on Switch but really didn’t like it. I tried World from a friend when the craze was high and the Generations Ultimate demo on Switch but really didn’t like it. When Rise was announced I initially was hesitant but it really looked interesting. I caved to Fomo and bought it digitally on release date. The first couple of hours were pretty jarring, a lot of information on systems, gameplay and getting used to the controls. But I understood more and more, got better and better and without noticing it I had played for 15 hours into the early morning, something that has not happened to me since BotW. And I wanted to continue to play the very next morning. And the next day. Needless to say the weekend was very unproductive. Once the gameplay loop clicks you are in a carousel of fun that just does not stop. Hunt after Hunt of incredibly animated Monsters for the next better weapon or armour, multiplayer with friends or solo hunts in arena for challenge. And just like that, 150 hours in a month since release are gone. And I didn’t even try any weapon apart from the hammer. I don’t have time to play this much, how did this happen? (I slept way less, worth it). And there is an update with more content already? And another one comes out in a few weeks? Please, I want my life back. Anyway, tl,dr: I’m a Monster Hunter fan now. Great. Expand

It is awesome, like all Monster Hunter. But this one it is even more beautiful, and the possibility to climb and jump with your dog it's very useful and makes everything faster and incredible. I'm loving every new aspect :) 10/10

It's a fresh monster hunter with new mechanics that make it faster phased and exciting, but it also makes the game easier.

Added siege mode is also not as exciting as you think, it loses the feel of how strong each monster suppose to be.

All in all, it's a very good and polished game.

This is the best game in the franchise, I love the additions of the wirebugs and the paliomutes which hooked me in made the game more fast paced. I highly recommend this game if you own a nintendo switch, in less then a year this should release on PC. Capcom has done some black magic to make this game look and run so well on the switch, its 30fps on the switch and rarely drops a frame. I have Monster hunter world on the Xbox series x that runs at 60fps and still I'd rather play this game any day over any other monster hunter game. Amazing work Capcom and the developer you've made a master piece, this music is awesome and the cut scenes which i highly recommend putting Japanese Voice with English subtitles. In the first week I had sunk over 100hrs I am addicted! Expand

Rise has quite a few new monsters and unique game modes to play with but on the flip side, a fair bit removed. While I enjoyed the new monsters, the wire bug mechanics and the ability to mount monsters, that wasn't enough to get me to love the game. Its main story is short and almost nonexistent at times. Hunts are easy, even playing solo. They are short and fast, catered mainly to the Switch. Designed to play with friends and get some fast hunts done while you are on the go. The game is visually a downgrade from World but also terrible even for a Switch game. I still had a good time with Rise though, its hard to fault its addictive, casual and fast gameplay. A hard game to review, so check out all my thoughts on it here: https://youtu.be/3r5s36KllA0 Expand

At first I was kind of disappointed because the village quests are really easy. Usually this isn't a big deal but the whole point of MH games is having hard bosses that force you to keep updating your gear. Here you barely need to grind for gear to finish the village quests.

This series has settled into a formula so straightforward and mind-numbingly expected that I can't get excited for any new Monster Hunter game anymore...but it's also Monster Hunter, so that formula happens to be incredibly strong.

The game looks solid (though a bit cluttered with the ridiculous hit effects), and there's plenty to love here. It's still a grindy MMO at heart, but a good one. Pick it up if you already like Monster Hunter, don't if you don't. This game won't change your mind on the series if you already dislike it.

The developers went all the way out. I bought the DLC to just support them and now I am all in this franchise. It will feel clunky at first and mastering range weapons will be the most tricky, especially if you do not use motion, but once you start mastering weapons and find a weapon you enjoy, it will start to click. It did not click for me until probably 5-8 hours, but when it clicked, I was absolutely consumed. Expand

Monster hunter rise is an improvement over World. The wirebug mechanic and wyvern riding are welcome additions to make the game more interesting and unique and I believe they should stay. The roster of monsters is more diversify than World and each monsters feels different. One of the few issues I have with the game is the lack of endgame content and how it a little too easy with some monsters.

Best price-performance-ratio I´ve had in a game in years. The performance on the Switch is incomparably smooth and perfectly implemented. The world is beautifully designed and shows so much love for details. The movement on palamute and wirebugs is addictive. Psychologically, I´ve never been as drawn in and more excited / outraged / bloodthirsty on my hunts as in this version. This is theBest price-performance-ratio I´ve had in a game in years. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Edit: For now i must put it in a 9 because with all the previous updats it still lacks a good post game loop, which is a shame

Is the perfect Monster Hunter, keeps what world made right to help people with its quality of life integrations, and brings some of the level style of old monhuns an integrate them perfectly. Besides, the wirebug creates a new dimension both for mobility and diversification of each weapon gameplay, creating different approach for each weapon in a more natural way that what they tried to do with styles previously. And Palamutes join the fray to make the travel a lot smoother.

The maps are enormous, smartly designed and full of places to explore, the new monsters are incredibly original and even the older ones have adjusted movesets that fit them perfectly in the speed pacing of the combats.

I belive it can get a little easy for most veterans, but they havent even removed the HR limiter yet, so there is room for dificulty development, and beyond that, the game still is super fun to play and has a lot of things to do.

Hope this game become the new standard for following monster hunters of how the gameplay and design choices must be. Amazing game, and a perfect Monster Hunter.

Although the story and characters were a little barebones and cliche, the strength of the core gameplay loops kept me thoroughly hooked all the way to the credits, and an extra 120+ hours beyond that. The music is fantastic, especially some of the monster-specific themes, and the UI is incredibly intuitive to navigate. Monster Hunter Rise is quite a complex game, and although the in-game tutorials were well-spread out and quite informative, there is still quite a bit of onus on the individual to go the extra mile and do some out-of-game study in order to explore the full extent of the game's systems and weapon mechanics. I wholeheartedly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys mechanically deep, action RPGs. Expand

I’m impressed by how well the developers thought this game through. Rise simultaneously improves the formula used in World and makes Monster Hunter more friendly towards newcomers. It makes great use of Switch’s nature and by clearly separating the multiplayer from the single-player campaign, it ensures you’re going to have fun regardless of the circumstances. Apart from one subpar mode (which imitates a tower defense), it’s an amazing game. [06/2021, p.42]

Rise has taken note of the franchise’s most successful elements, and refined them into the best Monster Hunter yet. By continuing the streamlining that Generations and World started, Rise has focused on making the actual hunting the most engaging it has ever been.
