Metroid Prime is still one of the greatest games I've ever played, and this remaster is no exception. Everything's been touched up faithfully to the original and improved in many ways to make playing on the Switch one of the best possible ways to experience this game, whether it be for the first time, or the hundredth time.

The level design is close to perfect with almost Hub like areas that lead to the different parts of the level making “backtracking” painless. It’s a 14-16 hour game that doesn’t wast your time and surprises and delights at every turn.

I wouldn't call a remake of an old game a shadow drop in the same sense of Hi-Fi Rush, but seeing as how much better this remake looks, I guess that could be up to date. I'm not playing when I say this is the first time I've been visually impressed by a Switch title.

Metroid Prime Remastered on Nintendo Switch was an unexpected but extremely appreciated release of the greatest entry on Metroid series.
It delivers an updated experience with incredible visuals, it's almost unfair to call this simply a "remaster" considering the amount of work that has clearly been put into recreating the models, lighting, physics and animations into HD for the first time

It's definitely the best looking game on Nintendo Switch right now, all of this while keeping smooth 60fps even in areas of intense combat. This game set the bar really high for future remasters of the other Metroid Prime titles.

Maybe to 'expensive' on the Nvidia GPU, or just didn't fit with the new more advanced baked lighting? In any case, I'll take the smooth 60fps any day. Honestly a Switch game shouldn't look this good .. I tried all 3 modes of control, became proficient at all of them, and not sure which is my favorite since they all have pros and cons. Dual stick works well with the pro controller on the TV, classic feels good in hand held/joycon since the sticks are smaller and feel a little less 'precise'. Honestly a bit surprised how well motion pointer worked considering no sensor bar, and enjoyed that quite a bit. It's more about the offset from the last time you zero'd out than actually pointing at places on the screen. Which allows for a more relaxed arm/wrist position.

No, this game doesn't need fast travel or infinite save states. That's the whole point of exploration and finding new things the second/third time. Loved it. Maybe it should be 9.5 because they didn't credit the names of the original creators (blanket staff credit), or including more behind the scenes/documentary stuff would have been neat... But I'm rounding up.

Becoming a fan so late in the franchise and playing the 2D games, all I got to hear about for years was how good the 3D ones are. Between not owning a Gamecube anymore and Prime 4 being continuously delayed, hoping for a remaster of the original became one of my number one wishes for the Switch, and thankfully my wish was granted.

Metroid Prime captures the full essence of what makes the franchise great, with its puzzle-like bosses and fantastic progress system. The feeling of exploring, finding a new ability, and getting excited to explore new areas is at its finest here. Gameplay is fast and intense with very impressive visuals making this a true remaster in ever sense of the word, and overall for a game two-decades old it still felt as though I was playing something new and fresh. Where this game showed its age was in its brutal difficulty; games were shorter back then, so they had to be harder. A lot of my play time was spent replaying the same rooms between save points trying to reach a new milestone, and that repetitive nature rarely made me feel happy to succeed and made me instead cheer it was over. The other sign of its age is complete lack of direction. Sure occasionally the game gives you hints but sometimes they’re contradictory to where you need to go, and they only give you those hints after you’ve searched aimlessly for a bit. To make things worse sometimes you have to solve very strange one time puzzles to progress, with no indicator of where or how to solve them. To you Gamecube kids who figured these puzzles out with not strategy guide or internet I tip my hat to you, because childhood me would have given up.

In the grand scheme of things however these complaints are minor and cannot take away from the true work of art I played. The world was fun to explore, the music was some of the best in franchise (and game) history, and the most important thing was this game was FUN! Every boss fight felt great to win, every power-up made me feel cooler having earned it, and in general this game completely exceeded my expectations for Metroid in 3D. Years of hope and patience definitely paid off, and I can only hope more remasters are on the way because I want to continue this journey all the way to the long awaited new entry.

Now that I am re-experiencing this as an adult, I really regret not getting into it back then. While this is very much a product of its time, but I can say it aged very well. It feels like they did a solid job capturing the exploration of Super Metroid in the 3D world. The entire game feels like a puzzle because there is minimal guidance on where to go, similar to Super Metroid. This is ultimately a really great feature of the game because if you pay attention as you are playing, it’s very rewarding solving the puzzles as you go without looking anything up. The atmosphere is a little weak, it’s made up through some pretty uninspired world building done by scanning objects. The soundtrack is ambient which really makes for a passive experience. For some reason I feel like the sound design in Super Metroid was vastly more memorable - that’s not to say this game doesn’t have good music, but they have a lot of ambient filler tracks. I feel like this game misses a lot of the charm of Nintendo games, but it makes up for it in the gameplay. The core enjoyment of the game is really around the exploration and natural feeling of accomplishment of figuring out where to go. The game is an excellent remaster. It looks fantastic on the Switch. Nintendo did a great job with this release, and I believe they priced it perfectly. I enjoyed it far more than when I played it when it first launched, but just something about this game has always felt hollow to me. Great experience, but a hollow experience. Expand

The game carries over features from the Wii version such as casual mode, and motion controls (but this time optional). The extras and art gallery are also stellar. The graphics are the biggest upgrade though, looking clean and crisp on my 75-inch TV (which can be rare for Switch games), and not dropping a single frame. It is without a doubt the definitive version of the game, and at a reasonable price. This is how you do a remaster.

I have every detail of the original GC Metroid Prime memorized, I know it like the back of my hand, and as a tradition I play it once a year from start to finish. That being said, the remaster perfectly captures the essence of the original game perfectly and I say that with no hyperbole. It doesn't drastically change the art style like most remakes, but gives it a much needed face lift, so much so it actually shows the original Prime's age. The dual stick controls make it handle like a dream, and for purest who like the tank controls of the original, that is an option to play with, among other control styles like the Trilogy releases motion controls, or you can do hybrid controls for gyro aiming for those who want it. The game might be running on dated hardware at this point, but it's hard to tell with how fantastic this game looks, being visually on par with current day releases. It runs at 60 FPS and does not hiccup once during the entire run (Yes, this includes handheld mode), and load times are almost non-existent; with me only being able to count one loading screen ever in all three of my play throughs. The music is left totally untouched, just of a much higher quality, and some mixing issues were fixed so we can now hear the soundtrack as intended, sound design has seen some tweaks with added details.

Metroid Prime Remastered sets a new standard for what a remaster should be. Granted, this will never replace the original for me, I will still play my old GC initial release for speedrunning, but if I just want to play Metroid Prime again? This is the version I will be playing for the foreseeable future. It just has so many improvements over the original that the tree things in this remaster that I dislike will come off as nitpicks. By the way, those two little gripes are the lack of holograms around Samus' boots when she obtains Space Jump, the mirrors in the Chozo Ruins don't reflect Samus, and Samus' face admittedly isn't a good look for her (at least in my opinion. She doesn't look bad, but she can look better). In conclusion, PLAY IT. You owe it to yourself if you love Metroid, if you love FPS games, if you love metroidvania's, or if you want a good time. This game really shows you what the Switch is really capable of when you have competent developers behind the wheel.

Also, if you're looking to emulate the game on a Steam Deck, please support Retro Studios and buy the game and show Nintendo this is where the moneys at.

Though there isn't any cut scenes with long story telling, the game gives you so much lore about the Chozo and Space Pirates, so you can learn a lot. It's made so that those who want to go deep, can go deep. And everyone else can just enjoy the combat and exploration. I cannot recommend this game enough. I've played all the Metroid Prime games and this is by far the best looking one because of the remastered work. Expand

It's clunky, extremely tedious, and devoid of challenge. The controls are awkward. Many elements were lifted directly from 2d metroid without sufficient consideration for how they would work in a 3d or 1st-person environment. An incomprehensible amount of the bestiary is locked to fixed points or tracks, with most unable to harm you unless you walk into them. Consequently almost every enemy encounter before the last 3rd of the game asks you to either just stop, stand and shoot for 5s in no danger, or try to duck and 1st-person platform past them to save a little of your lifespan. You can really feel the hours slipping away as you clean up the aggressively respawning enemies over and over, wait for animations to switch weapons at almost every door in the endgame, and backtrack through tedious lengthy areas without enough connections, shortcuts, or mobility tools. If you enjoy lore you'll also have the pleasure of reading 1000s of completely flavorless scan descriptions between the odd interesting one. Those enemies who aren't simple time gates are massive bullet sponges. Even in the act of pulling the trigger your time is wasted as you have to fire a sequence of regular shots to even begin charging a beam shot, which feels terrrrrible. Most enemies are also tiny bugs, this works fine in a 2d sprite environment but lifted into 3d 1st person game they The game is carried entirely by graphics, atmosphere, and sound. Sadly the graphics go partially to waste: you will spend a significant portion of the game with vaseline smeared on your screen as you use various visors. The opening hours are the best, leaving a good first impression for someone looking to get out a quick review. Many are sadly also blinded by nostalgia and the original's reputation. There are definitely positives: the graphics are largely beautiful, the game runs smoothly, the music is great, and there's a real sense of accomplishment as you acquire more abilities and master terrain and enemies. These elements were enough to carry me nearly to the end of the game, where the tedium of the combat increases sharply. As a fan of the 2D games it's sad to see this fumble. Expand

All of this makes Metroid Prime gameplay simply alright, at best.

This remaster makes dual stick control finally viable, but sets up a host of other disastrous control schemes make the overall controls an overly complicated failure.
    1. Jump button is different from the Morph ball jump button.
    2. Super missile needs 2 button presses instead of just holding down the Missile button, which is crazy.
    3. There’s zero full button mapping available.
    4. Changing Visors/weapons harder than it should be.
    5. Changing thermal or X-ray visor needs an extra button press every time you want to go back to normal vision.
    6. There’s no weapon wheel or visor wheel as an option.
    7. There’s still very long delay between changing any weapons or visors, which feels horribly out of date……and much more.

I bought this day one, and will by the physical version again as soon as it comes out. But don’t let the cultists convince anyone honest that this game is anywhere near an 8/10. It’s a 6/10 for modern gaming standards.

I played through about 70% of it so far and haven’t had much fun at all, not that I’ve had a bad time mind you. One of the biggest reasons I see for the shower of praise is the atmosphere, everyone loves the incredibly immersive atmosphere. I don’t see it. The world is very well realized and detailed, especially considering it’s a gamecube game and quite old, but there isn’t much to really push it to a level of immersion where all the problems I have can disappear. The music is a big part of this lack of atmosphere to me personally. The first time that the music kicked in for the Chozo Ruins area, I found that it so ruined any sense of mystery or tension that I turned it off. It’s not a bad track but it’s so mismatched and creates an unpleasant dichotomy between the world-building and a silly little song playing at full volume while you fight your way through every alien trying its hardest to murder you. There are some songs I enjoyed but for the most part I find the music to be middling and unimpressive, much like the gameplay. It’s hard to see why people might prefer the slower, clunkier gameplay of prime to a 2D metroid if the atmosphere doesn’t hit. Where Dread is fast and snappy, Prime makes you feel like your suit is 20x as heavy and it really bogs down the pacing. I played on normal difficulty but it feels too easy. The only difficulty to be had is trying to make it back to a save point with enough health so you don’t die and lose the last 15 minutes of progress, which is a good motivator but can be frustrating, though I feel as though the save points are never too far. Another thing that bogs down the pace of the game is all the backtracking. Probably my biggest issue with the game as a whole is the amount of wasted time bouncing from one area to another and back again when you get a suit upgrade. It is incessant and unnecessary and I don’t know how it is simply looked over in every 10/10 review. Not much is fun about going through the same area you’ve been in for the 6th time and fighting another flying enemy that won’t leave you alone ever. It’s a massive flaw. On the positive side though, I think the presentation is great for a switch game. The sound effects and fidelity the team at retro managed to squeeze into the little system are quite impressive. It baffles me to see negative reviews where the only thing mentioned are the “lackluster graphics.”
I never write reviews for anything but I am genuinely confused as to the mountains of praise this game gets. I’m not completely dissatisfied with it but it is so incredibly far from being a “10/10 perfect game” that it’s a bigger mystery than anything I discovered on Tallon IV.

It's a decent remaster of the original. Only took them TWENTY TWO years and two re-releases to finally add dual stick controls, one big round of applause for that one. They reworked the graphics and still call it a remaster, props to that. But 39 Dollars? F*** THAT. For that money you'd be right to expect a full blown remake, with new animations, new game modes, extras, and all those bells and whistles. This looks a lot more like one of those fan projects where someone recreates a classic game in Unreal Engine, and apart from that, not much has changed.

That being said, I was a huge fan of the original game. It was a masterpiece back when it was first released. Playing it today, I can't help but notice a ton of issues that drain the fun out of the game. Frankly, it was hard to ignore those flaws 20 years ago, but I'm not the hardcore brainwashed Nintendo fanboy I used to be, unlike some other people.
Starting with the combat: Lots of enemies and bosses that are annoying as hell to fight. Circle around them, or let them circle around you, wait for them to reveal their weak point, shoot, rinse and repeat. It gets old -really- fast, and even back in the day, was my biggest gripe with the Prime series. And that's with the -new- controls, so just imagine how it feels with the old, clunky controls.... Enemies respawn every damn time you enter a room, so just in case you can't get enough of circling around the same enemies over and over again, this game got you covered. Then you have those f****** mosquitoes everywhere. The biggest challenge is to not lose your patience and throw the controller into the damn TV screen. Enough said; the combat SUCKS.

Then you have the controls: Clunky and unintuitive, sometimes unresponsive. Small things like rotating the map with the left stick, and panning the map with the right stick; The exact opposite of what everyone is used to. Constantly switching between different visors, beams and missiles. Press D-pad right to select the scanner, press ZR or D-pad UP to deselect the scanner? Those are small issues, but they add up to become one big issue.

Scanning every room with your visor is one big waste of time, unless you want to read the same bits of text a million times. Don't be the person who wants to get every codex entry in this game. Who gives a damn about the Chozo, anyway?

The level design and exploration is still amazing though, and that's where the game redeems itself. I just find all these raving reviews to be a bit much, considering that this is just another cash grab. It's a well enough excuse to play this classic game again, nothing more.

Additionally, the game's storyline feels lacking and uninspired. The lack of character development and depth makes it difficult to connect with the game's protagonist, Samus Aran. The game also lacks replayability value, as there is little incentive to revisit previously explored areas.

Overall, Metroid Prime Remastered fails to capture the magic of the original game and falls short in terms of both gameplay and story. Fans of the series will be disappointed, and newcomers may struggle to find enjoyment in this lackluster remaster.

That moment when they made a 2002 game look better than actual new games for the switch

Amazing love it what a surprise from Nintendo the graphics are great and the remastered version clearly has visuals that you don't see in the original GC version I have the original GC version but you do notice on the switch.Worth buying

I don't understand how this game is getting such great reviews. It might've been good for it's time on Gamecube (I played it) but the combat and level design are super weak compared to games of the modern era (see Metroid Dread). It is not worth $40 IMO.

This game is a steaming pile of garbage. The greedy developers are charging $40 for this poor excuse of a remaster. For that ridiculous price, I expect a remake or extra game modes. All the lazy developers did was re-texture/upscale the game and called it a day. All these outdated mechanics makes me want to snap my Switch in half.

There is no multiplayer. So once you beat the campaign, there is literally not a reason to play this game again. Charging $40 for a game with no replay value is a cash grab. I'm shocked greedy Nintendo didn't charge $60 for this remaster. They are the same company that had Diamond and Pearl remake for an outrageous price of $120. Even when Nintendo tries to be generous, they're still greedy and lazy. I don't recommend this game at all, unless you want to support laziness.

The only thing it really has going for it is beautiful graphics. Being forced to fire 3 shots before a charge shot is a massive annoyance! Графику улучшили, но геймплей уже не вытягивает. Низкая сложность, унылый левел дизвйн, никакие боссы и рядовые враги. Оружие не чувствуется.

This game trash man. Nintendo can't make FPS. And where is the multiplayer? Its 2022 people. Stick to Call of Duty.

The truth is, I expected more from this game, unless it was a remake and not a remaster, which will not have any change in the story and it is the same as we played, only with a retouching of the graphics

Firs thing than I noticed that - it not so interesting as they said and game design is far behind modern games. But at some point it became unbearable to play, you newer know there is checkpoint and if you miss it - ptobobly you will die and lost all your progress. Intricate labyrinths and crowds of enemies in them introduce frustration. You never know where should They say that in the old games there were problems with the fact that you did not know where to go - Metroid Prime takes this problem to the core of the game and takes it to the absolute!
If you are looking for an FPS, don't buy metroid prime, as the FPS metroid is absolutely terrible, for example, the developers divided the weapons by colours, you need exactly the yellow weapon to kill the yellow enemy. Even Quake 1 is a better shooter than Metroid Prime
If you want to play Metroid - better buy Metroid Dread
It's hard for me to imagine what could attract a modern gamer to this bunch of code

IT is amazing how Nintendo and Retro managed to make this game look and play better that than the original. This is my favorite game ever and it is sold as one hell of a package $40 for one of the greatest game ever made and fully remastered.

This is an excellent remaster that preserves a classic game and makes it highly playable by modern standards. It also confirms that Metroid Prime remains as special a title as ever.

Game makers: take note. Metroid Prime Remastered is a masterclass in how to modernize a masterpiece. Twenty years after the series made the transition to 3D, this remains a classic that has stood the test of time. The updated visuals prove that with some optimization and visual tricks, the Switch is really capable of delivering great games. In fact, this is one of prettier – if not the prettiest –Switch games to date.

A classic returns in Metroid Prime Remastered. A complete visual overhaul makes the world of the game look better and more detailed than ever before. A new dual-stick control scheme makes the game approachable and palatable for new players, while veterans can opt for controls that mimic the original. Underneath it all, though, the masterpiece that is Metroid Prime Remains unchanged. Some more quality of life improvements could perhaps have been made, but it is a tiny complaint for a near-perfect remaster.
