A first-person adventure game whose mysterious story was inspired by the imagination of Franz Kafka.

You wake up one morning to find that you are rather inconveniently transforming into a tiny bug, while your friend Joseph is being arrested for reasons unknown.

To save him and to find the answers you seek, you must embark on a journey through a world which, like yourself, has become twisted and unfamiliar.

What once seemed like mundane dwellings have become an expansive obstacle course, and now you’ll have to chart your path through the dingy nooks and crannies that exist within the cracks of civilization.

Use your wits to unravel the truth, and regain the life you once knew.

A bug's perspective in first person - experience the world in a whole new way
Challenging environmental puzzles - parkour, wall climb, search for clues, and overcome obstacles
Unique movement mechanics - make full use of your tiny body and sticky limbs
A story inspired by Kafka’s imagination - meet eccentric characters in a hand-painted world, as you journey through surrealist landscapes towards The Tower

Metamorphosis is a good puzzle/adventure game with some platformer elements, but it fails to take the experience quite as far as it could. If you are into the surreal, consider it a solid option for a little creative time-wasting on your Nintendo Switch.

I'll say this much, if you try and play Metamorphosis as a substitute for a book report, you'll probably fail your English class. But as a game that's inspired by Kafka's classic tale, this is not bad at all. The platforming is competent, the puzzles can get creative, and the characters are often interesting. The downside is that the performance lag can't be ignored and sucks a lot of the fun out of this game. The other thing worth noting is that this is a very brief adventure. Even novices should have little trouble getting through the full story in anything more than four to five hours.

Metamorphosis is a love letter to Franz Kafka, that, unfortunately, is in pretty rough shape on the Nintendo Switch. The stuttering, texture pop-in, and hard crashes overshadow an experience that could otherwise be described as generally enjoyable. Witty dialogue, challenging platforming, and the incredible sights to see from this pint-sized perspective would make it worth the issues in performance if it weren’t also for the bland adventuring and jittery controls.

Metamorphosis offers a surreal adventure where, after an interesting premise, we will quickly lose all interest because it is a terrible Nintendo Switch port with fps drops, forgotten textures, crashes and a boring gameplay and story.

It is massively disappointing that a title with literary aspirations falls so flat when it comes to delivering an engaging experience in all regards. I appreciate that the developers must be huge fans of Kafka, but they’ve seemed to miss that the art in literature is found not only in the quality of each individual page, but also in how they create the accompanying theme.
