It may just be nostalgia, but for its price, Mercenary Kings Reloaded feels like a perfectly fair package.

Mercenary Kings is a modern classic run 'n' gun game and this Reloaded Edition will hopefully allow more gamers to experience its multiplayer mission-based mayhem. Tribute Games lives up to their name yet again.

A 2D action game with a frantic rhythm and a very striking and well-done visual aspect. It proposes many missions and possibilities but they get diluted over time after repeating the same stages and mechanics again and again. The multiplayer mode makes this shooting game's fun last longer by letting us play in co-op mode locally and online.

  1. Mercenary Kings is a great time by my lonesome and we’ll see how it performs online. If it does well, I think this could be the next big Switch online experience, up there with Mario Kart and Splatoon.

Mostly finding the material I need to craft new equipment. The missions tend to be the just there for me to get new gear. Some of the missions do sometimes need another player(s). That is where I take two points off. When adding a second player in local it does not split the screen or share. It splits the screen into four boxes. Making the sprites really small and hard to see in Coop. In online multiplayer this is not an issue. Full Review »

Action is good, plenty of missions to complete either solo or co-op with up to 4 players, and crafting different guns with all sorts of properties keeps the game fresh. Game has a great soundtrack.

However, the repeated usage of same bosses can get obnoxious as you see same basic bosses again, again, again and again. Even same locations are repeated countless times with different objectives.

Performance is questionable for Nintendo Switch Lite, version I played. I don't know how this game plays on regular Switch, but with Switch Lite there is random stuttering which can screw your game big time if you are in combat with enemies and bosses.

Also, character sprites can bug out at random and show you something seizure inducing. Music also isn't safe from bugs. As you are in the main camp and interact with merchants, when you enter menus the music can die at random so you are left with awkward silence when moving around the hub.

This game appearance is deceiving. By looking at the screenshots you expected fun fast-paced action, with cool missions and bosses.
    - it’s not fun - missions is automatically generated bs like kill 2 foxes, get 2 iron(yes this game have “resource gathering”
    - it’s slow. Character moves like they under water
-maps seems like also autogenerated, and you frequently walk around trying to find your goal.

The overall gameplay is like bad mmo, where all the fun part was cut out from the game. But meaningless quests, and resource gathering are kept there.
