    Straight up downgrade from charged.

    Things in a 15 year old wii game this garbage is missing: - 1v1 ranked ladder - More than 5 stages - Stage hazards - Recognizable character themes - A decent sized roster - Unlockable characters through single player This is just off the top of my head, I'm sure there's more. It wouldn't have taken much for me to actually like this game    Straight up downgrade from charged.

    - A decent sized roster
    - Unlockable characters through single player

    This is just off the top of my head, I'm sure there's more.

    It wouldn't have taken much for me to actually like this game but they **** it up so hard. So many things baffle me about this game. If they wanted to skimp on single player and focus on multiplayer that's fine, but don't make the multiplayer garbage then. If you want to play "ranked" You have to be in a club and can only use 1 character that you created. All your other team members are made by club members (randoms), so teambuilding is ****. They seem to want to make it higher skill by adding in timing to do perfect passing and shots but then they add garbage comeback mechanics like free items when you're losing and guaranteed goal hyper strikes. They seemed to want to make this game 4v4 multiplayer but you cant use 4 switches on 1 team.

    I really wanted to like this game, I still enjoy charged to this day. I dropped this game in a couple weeks and I don't see myself coming back for characters that should have been in from the start.    … Expand

    I thought this Game would be a no brainer. I have never felt cheated on my money this much. The game is quite fun and the graphics are good. But the AI mates are stupid, the soccer field is too small (that is why the game feels sometimes chaotic), the gear system is a dissapointment because the gear only switches stats, only 10 characters choosable (after three games you have seen allI thought this Game would be a no brainer. I paid 60€ for an early access game, because Nintendo knows what the fans want and how they can make maximum profit out of a minimum of work. Yeah they will patch new content, nice. So what? Every new Nintendo release with this approach has been getting worse and worse, culminating with the release of this new strikers. 10 characters in a 60 dollar game in 2022 is insulting, and the “stadium changing” gimmick is worthless when there are only 5 and none ofNintendo really needs to make sure they stop this “release unfinished game, finish it with free updates later” approach. At least Tennis Aces gameplay was improved over previous versions and some courts had hazards, this game is pretty much 1 stadium with absolutely zero variety, and in many ways has less interesting gameplay than the Wii version from 2007. Overall, extremely disappointed. I have been wanting Nintendo to make a new Sluggers game for years now as it’s my favorite Mario sports game, but at this point I rather them just port Supper Sluggers from Wii instead of them probably releasing a new game that is unfinished and content lacking.… Expand

    The cost to content ratio here is absolutely unacceptable. This is a $20 game marked up to $60. As it is, this game isn’t even worth buying half price. Don’t support this kind of greedy pricing.

    This one lacks everything that made the Wii one good. The mechanics, the pace, the maps, the personality, the tournament mode. The CPU is unfair and gameplay is mayhem to the point where I can’t even tell what is going on. The goalie is horrible but theirs is magically invincible. #BringBackKritter As of right now I would pay $30 not $60 for this game. I find myself more frustrated rather than enjoying the game during play. I hope the developers make the necessary fixes to this game as they need to.     They removed some of the best things from strikers charged. Skillshots, character specific dodges, and a charged soccer ball. Thats what made charged so much better than the original stikers on gamecube. This new game feels like a heavy downgrade back to the gamecube version of the game and its very disappointing.

    The worst Nario game I’ve ever had the misfortune of playing. Absolutely lacking in content, terrible controls, broken AI and an overly complicated gameplay system that makes it ridiculously frustrating and boring to play.

    Nintendo, this is an awful attempt at cashing in on your flagship franchise and should bring shame to anyone involved in the creation of it

    I play Switch for the nintendo exclusive games but there isnt much to play. Games are unfinished reruns without a soul. I stayed loyal for many years but i think i will switch to a steam deck and have some fun again.

    Overall a much worse game than Strikers Charged. I bought this game because the predecessor was great, this is just poor quality gaming that I have not used seeing from Nintendo.

    I am very disappointed with this game. They made it a lot less enjoyable than the game for the wii. Less characters, No specialized abilities for team captains. I bought this game with the hopes for a completed game, but it is just disappointing. I hope they turn it around with DLC, but as of right now, do not buy this game.

    I bought this game with 3 others Friends for play 4v4 and We Saw its actually impossible.
    On the trailer Nintendo Said its will be possible to create a club and play online at 8 players.
    Like Mario tennis when it was impossible to play 2v2 online. Thats a big lie from Nintendo.... So i bought the game for nothing.

    Awesome soundtrack. Excellent gameplay. But barebones experience that is incredibly lacking compared to the first two Mario Strikers games, with a lackluster roster, and NO single player mode and a severe lack of content. This is just embarrassing, considering that we have been waiting for a Mario Strikers game for 15 years. 15 YEARS, I kid you not.

    Fan of the first hour of this license, I was so happy to get a new version on switch. I bought it right on the release. But what a dispointement! It is my worst buy of 2022. The game has just come on a point of no fun, all the mechanic that was great on the lasts games are away. I had to sell it only 1 week after buying it! Save you money and your time, don’t buy it

    Me and three friends each pre-ordered the game and took holiday from work to play on launch day. It was then disappointing to find out that there is no 4v4 player multiplayer - you can only team up with one other console!!.....in a 4 aside football game....in 2022...

    This was an absolute deal breaker and needless to say each copy went on eBay the same day.

    And guess what, you can't. The game also has the option to create a club in which you can include up to 20 people. But guess what. Even if you have the club    The greatest scam in the history of gaming.

I don't really know what was the big idea? It can't be technical reasons, FIFA can handle 11v11 matches with Pro Clubs.
    The game also pretends you have someone at home to comply with a 4v4 online, not giving you options to play solo. As if people keeps hanging out together. Is this still a thing?

    So you have one friend only? No worry, Nintendo thought of you: If you play with one friends, you can't select 2 characters per players, so each player could have switch between _its_ two characters. The player switch is shared between players. Switching character select the character the closest to the ball. This means if both players switch at the same time, you are not really sure about which character you control.

    Let me repeat this: If you play with a friend, in the speed of the game, character switching is unpredictable. And because of the speed of the game character switch is what make the difference between loose and win.

    The only "workaround" is to let one single player to handle the character switching. Same for 3 players (but it's lesser a problem, I would say). We are talking about a Nintendo game. This is so dumb.

    I could list all the other problems, but making basic game design flaws that no other indie football game will never have reveal the mess this game is.    … Expand

    First off, the game has no content. It's you, the AI & Online mode. That's it. There are cup tournaments to play through but good luck with that, because the recent update has made the game 10x harder. Preupdate, I could manage 5-10 goals per match. Post update, sometimes I can't even manage 1 goal. Now, this would be fair enough if the AI didn't constantly cheat against you like it does, especially in Cup modes, even worse on Galactic mode. I get that Galactic is supposed to be the 'hard' mode, but they literally made 'easy' mode the real 'hard' mode since the update & now 'hard' has become 'impossible' mode. So yea, seriously, good luck beating the cups & earning those coins that you need to buy the gear that you need just to stand a chance.

    Oh, yea that's another thing, you have to buy gear now with coins you earn, but the only decent way to earn those coins is by beating cup modes but you can't beat cup modes because they made it impossible so you can't get gear that you need to beat cup modes cause you can't beat cup modes. Hilarious, ain't it?

    The whole coin earning thing is the real problem with this game. Once you beat a cup, you can't earn coins from it anymore, at least not the same amount. Normal cups give 400 coins when you win the 1st time. After? An abysmal 50. Yep, they decided to make those coins a 1 time payout, forcing you to grind, grind, grind in a friggen' soccer game. Each piece of gear costs 100-300 coins each & they are all separate between characters. That means, a piece of gear you get for Mario will not work for anyone else, even though it's pretty much the exact same piece of gear.

    So, if you're like me & invested in 4 characters with a full set of 'Technique' gear, you are royally screwed. Know why? Cause they decided to nerf the technique stat with the newest update. HAHA! Good one, Nintendo. Ya got me. I spent $60 on your game only to have all that gold I spent be meaningless & now I can't earn any more gold cause you made the game 10x harder than it was when I bought it.

    Well, F me, right? So, they give me the middle finger by ruining my game, I give them the middle finger by giving them a 0 on Metacritic, f'ing D-bags.    … Expand

    The graphics are a joke. It literally looks like a mobile game. The physics are terrible. The AI is incredibly stupid. The shadows are lazily designed in this game. It doesn't matter if it is daytime or nighttime, the shadows remain exactly the same. You can clearly see floodlights all over the stadium and it doesn't even have any effect on the shadows. Not even EA would be that cheap and lazy to not bother implementing accurate floodlight shadow effects. The customization is laughable. Lack of content. Toad is so underpowered. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought this was supposed to be a soccer game. The "soccer field" is roughly the same size as a basketball court. That is pathetic and so is the gameplay mechanics.

    The online multiplayer is complete trash. I was hyped to play 4v4 online with my friends, only to find out that I can't even play 4v4 online. Are you freaking kidding me? To make matters worse, you can't even spectate. It is insane to me that a masterpiece like Rocket League has 4v4 online, spectator mode, and a much larger field for free. That is biblical. Meanwhile, this game has none of that and the greedy developers had the audacity to charge $60 for this glorified Mario Party minigame. This outrageous greed infuriates me. CPU is pretty cheap (opposing team goalie actually blocks most of the time, yours barely ever will). I've played all the cups and literally never got a single Starman. While playing the final cup the last opposing team got a Starman after every made shot and made 100 percent of shots taken. My team would walk away from items so the other team always got it. I either go for ball and lose items only to get pummeled by them or I go for item only for the opposing team to get a guaranteed shot because my goalie won't block it. The cpu isn't good or never gets any better. Your team is just dumb and the cpu who controls your team will leave man to man coverage so that the opposing team is always open and walk away from item drops too. My team cpu has literally been beside the hyper orb when it spawns and have actually walked away from it many times. In the cups it essentially always a 1 vs 7 with how much the cpu works against you. The cpu will also target the player controlled character when you are off ball as well. You could control the furthest character from the ball and the closest cpu controlled character to you will still throw items and takle you. Logically that doesn't make sense so it just seems like it was designed to agress the player even if the player is already in a state where they couldn't possibly be a threat. This is probably the worst and laziest attempt at a mario game I have ever played. And that's saying something considering you can lose every mini game in mario party and still win or vice versa and lose.… Expand

    Nintendo Keeps releasing their Sport titles purposely without all of it's content in the base game in order to slowly release it over time back to players as a way to try to keep the game relevant.     This game has nothing interesting to offer. It's a nerfed version of the GameCube version, even when it comes to it's uniques mechanics that made the series so fun. The horror: - The gameplay is slower, like transitioning from melee to brawl. - The controls are messed up.     The horror:

    - The gameplay is slower, like transitioning from melee to brawl.
    - The controls are messed up. They tried to adapt the classic controller into the modern one, without understanding how the original worked in the first place. The GameCube/Wii one used the A button as the central button for passes and combos, letting you perform multiple deffensive and offensive strategies simultaneously. This one feels like a cheap version of the fifa games controls.
    - Tackling and sliding are mixed into one action, that needs to be charged in order to execute it. This just makes the game more predictable, slower and way less violent. - characters have stamina. Really? What's the point in making everything slower, this used to be a really fast paced game.
    - There are less items, that are simpler (no triple shells/bombs or random explosions, multiple bananas). They cannot be switched, and cannot be used for defending the ball. (Items always go forward, so if you have someone on your tail trying to tackle you, you cannot throw the item backwards)
    - items now come in boxes, that again, makes everything slower.
    - You cannot control the goalie
    - Hyper strikes are now a luck/chance event, which are really easy to pull of correctly. In the old days, super strikes were hard to pull off, and were used to humiliate your opponent whenever you had the chance. Now it's just annoying.
    - You cannot sabotage a hyper strike. There's no shaking the opponent's meter, or using a last minute tackle/item/explosion to prevent it. The turned the hyper strike into a random chance and very boring minigame with a really long animation that gets old real fast. - Characters stats are worthless, no significant upgrades except on strength tackling, whichs sucks.

    The bad:
    - Character selection and stats are very poor. It's pretty much the same gameplay with every character. - No single player content, other than unlocking perks and gear that do nothing. No cups or trophies, nothing. - No cups or tournament options when it comes to multiplayer, just "quick matches". If you play with 3 or more people, you need to manually keep track of the scores and matchmaking if you wanna do a tournament style gameplay.
    - CPU isn't really hard. It's like professional-superstar level on the original, or level 3 in charged. For an experienced Mario strikers player, the only challenge is overcoming the controls and limitations (such as defensive items and fast paced stealing, or lack thereof).
    - All stages feel and play the same, not even a difference in sound design.
    - There are no character themes like on charged, just generic rock bg themes.

    Neutral: - The game doesn't keep track of the last used match settings, and takes a while to load between matches. Rematch screen puns were also removed.
    - Practice mode is time limited
    - No cheat system or unclockables of that kind.
    - Music is ok.

    The good:
    - You can manual toggle and control the characters that don't have the ball. This is very useful for doing one timer shots.
    - charging the ball has good potential, and feels smooth. Gives it somewhat a skill based gameplay an advantage. TL:DR Get the GameCube/Wii version. The GameCube one feels a little closer to this one (just a little).    … Expand

This is such a disappointment I made an account just to review how awful it is. Do not support nintendos shady practices or they will just become another EA.

    Oh my goodness, this game isn't even close to finished. $60 for... 4 hours of single player and a PvP experience that is a demo at this point, and already has space for $$ DLC. You also can only play 4 players if you have 2 local players on each switch (only using a single joycon each).
    I can't believe this game got released as it is, this is such a bad look for Nintendo.

Secondary, one stand in front of opponent goal and the other just spam the perfect aerial passe so the solo player have 2 choices :
    - switching character to tackle the player in front of the goal then superstrike
    - or trying to chase the unstoppable perfect aerial passe leading to a goal
    Let's talk about the club mode. You can't create your own club and join an another club. If you create your own club, you can customise the stadium but you won't have people joining you. Then in club mode, the match will be 1 character full geared with 3 random character with 0 gear and you will be facing full team geared. What's the point to unlock gear with solo content if you can't use it for the competitive mode? The solution is to subscribe to familial nintendo online and create 4 account to play club mode... This game is PAY-TO-WIN !!! They don't say it in their video or demo. If you join a club well... like animal crossing as 4 on 1 save you don't enjoying it. The online don't support 4vs4... wait... apparently you need 2 guys on 1 console + 2 on other console and you have to face 2 guys on 1 console + 2 other on an other console to do 4vs4 in online... 2022.
    And final point. If you live in France or in Europe. You can't refund the game. The nintendo support say: learn to read bro!!! 1-8 mean idk anymore...    … Expand

    Very disappointing... Less solo content than in the gamecube/will titles, and when I say less I mean 0 content. Online is what this game is about...but you can't play as 4 online in a 4v4 game. Worst Nintendo game I've played, I tried to get a refund but Nintendo refused.

    You can only play with a max of 2 consoles online. I have 3 other friends with the game and we can't even play together. For a game that has basically zero story mode and is all online game play they really **** up the online modes. There is 4 characters per team but only 2 consoles are allowed to connect so the other 2 characters just get randomized. Me and friends will be returning the game.

    CPU at Galactic difficulty is a frustrating experience, not something I would recommend to anyone.
    Considering it's the only offline experience I can't recommend the game at its current state.
    The online experience with friends is also severely lacking, playing 4v4 with friends is not working as advertised.
    Gameplay is solid, but it's a game not ready to be enjoyed as is it.

    Remember when Nintendo actually put thought and effort into their games and didn't sell this Steam Early Acess tier **** Yeah that time is long gone now. I'm not exaggerating when I say the demo for the game gives you the exact same experience as the full game. You experience the whole thing within about an hour. Insane.

It's kind of like a mobile game in reverse - where instead of hooking you with free, addictive gameplay to have you paying through the nose later for more content; instead the game mugs you in an alley for full sticker price, bores you quickly and wonders if it can lure you back with drip feeding at some unspecified point.
    Good luck if you think you'll just pick it up later when there might be content - it's a competitive game at heart, but the lack of a real ladder/rating means any newcomer will get matched into what small community does stick with the game i.e. the hardcore.    … Expand

    It's a disgusting game. Goals are the same, matches are random, super shots for some reason give 2 points. Long-range shots are easier to score than point-blank shots. Two players just rape one player. **** mario kart boxes. Goalkeeper is just random garbage. Tactics in the game are zero, assists are unnecessary. Not much variability. Total **** don't buy this game.

    There's no game here. It's a half baked soccer "idea" at best. You can't follow anything happening on the screen, you can't control the goalie, the AI spikes all over the place, and the tutorial is literally garbage, the tutorial doesn't even make sense in a few places. I've never felt ripped off by a Mario title, ever. I guess there's a first time for everything. This title is horrible.

This is the worst mario strikers by far, hopefully they fix it, in the meantime i will try to resell it, maybe not losing all my money will not make me feel like i just got scammed

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game has the most awful online mode I've every experienced. The whole gameplay is based around luck and not skill. When you score 3 goals your opponent immediately gets a star and a charge orb and scores 2 goals and you can't do anything about it. The goal keeper is either the best keeper ever or the worst you ever get, it's just random. The worst of all is that when you play alone your 3 other characters do nothing except running around like dumb **** And when you want to switch to a specific player that has a good positioning on the field you can't directly switch to the character, you have to go through every **** member in your team until you finally have the one you want.

    When you play this strikers team mode bull**** you can't even choose from the whole character roster when your club hasn't enough members, the game rather chooses a random character with no equipment.

    I almost broke my switch in half after losing 10 games in a row because of this stupid luck based bull****. I hate everything about this game and not even the CPU trophy mode **** is fun. I've beaten every team in this mode and collected every trophy and the only thing you unlock is a new armor. You not even get a special item or character after beating the „galatic mode“. 0/10 I would not recommend this game to anyone.    … Expand

The hyper orb should not have been a thing. There are no more special items that every character gets of their own. Edgyness has been toned down extremely. Charged shots suck now too. The new changed controls don't feel good either and it doesn't help the fact that we can't change the button layout. The character intros are soooo underwhelming. The stages are smaller in this game. They're purposely giving free DLC soon but it's just straight drip-feeding us content to "make the game last longer" but in reality that just makes consumers unhappy. There is no campaign and they decided to use "still cams" for the scenes in which they show the character's animations which makes it really really boring when in Charged they made it seem like they were actually being broadcasted making it really exciting. Don't get me wrong though, the animations and the looks of this game are so damn good but sadly, it's all very lacking in how much of it they actually made. I was extremely excited when this game was announced because I absolutely love the Strikers games and pre-ordered this game as soon as it was available. The conclusion is, they were greety at level 100 and released the absolut minimum for a game to get people hyped (selling the name of the success of the older games) so they could get their money.

    Remember when Nintendo actually put thought and effort into their games and didn't sell this Steam Early Acess tier **** Yeah that time is long gone now. I'm not exaggerating when I say the demo for the game gives you the exact same experience as the full game. You experience the whole thing within about an hour. Insane

My least favourite aspect is that you cannot pick your own team for online; you have to use teammates, usually random people, who are in your club. And if you got the game later? Good luck finding people to join who have characters you want to play in online. You're at a huge disadvantage every time. I just want to play Mario Soccer, but this game stands in your way at every turn. The gear is laughable, the roster hardly any more interesting than the original, and the item pool far less fun. It's so watered down. Nintendo has been half-assing it for a while now, but I've bought plastic cups for cheaper that have made a longer lasting impression than this game. This might be the worst installment of a sports game in a mario series. I sincerely hope they update it, because every time I waste $60 on Nintendo's garbage, I become $60 closer to snapping. Don't buy this game if you love yourself or love mario or love nintendo; it's a hogwash of underpaid developers meeting a quota, and the day this game dies or updates is the day the world can start healing. Do yourself a favour and spend $60 on gas or a lobotomy, because you'll probably have more fun :)

    It's a great game if you don't want to play too long against a pretty erratic AI. It's disappointing to not be able to control the goalie as well. The online features are excellent. Plus there's the promise of an expanding range of available Nintendo characters for free. A perfect choice for parties. [Issue#320]

    I was really looking forward to Mario Strikers: Battle League, and for the most part it has been a worthy successor, but it’s a little hampered by the complexity of the gameplay. Even scoring goals can be a bit difficult overall. Soccer is definitely not known for high-scoring affairs but it is simply too difficult to score goals in the time allotted. This does seem to be different from what I remember in the previous games. It was a bit easier to score goals and that is definitely missed. There’s a balance that sports games need to strike, but Battle League does tend to be just a bit more difficult. Still, there is a lot to love about Mario Strikers: Battle League, but it almost made me want a remaster of the first two games more than anything.

    Nostalgia is a dangerous thing. In our memories, 'Super Mario strikers' on our Gamecube was the best of the best, unmatched and wonderful. Fair is not fair, as it sets the bar extremely high for 'Mario strikers battle league'. But there's more: this game feels like it's not quite finished.
