Luigi's Mansion 3's attention to detail blew my mind away. Almost every object in the game is interactive. Each floor offers a unique level design which makes one eager to see what's offered in the next level. The piano boss fight is well implemented along with the music. Each level is carefully designed with great attention to detail and the amount of diversity that level offered impressed me a lot. Ex: There's a level for mummies, a castle level and a pirate level. All of them are super detailed and crafted.

The bosses are fun and not challenging. It's more of solving the puzzle which is good if you want anti souls like games just to relax.

Luigi's Mansion 3 deserves something more than 9 for it's amazing attention to detail and floor designs. A 9.5 for sure.

Once I had put about 5 hours into the game the buttons became second nature and found myself finding better hidden gems in later levels than the more obviously placed once I passed over at the beginning. It was satisfying figuring out how to beat each boss, as discovering their weakness was always a puzzle itself. Overall, pleasantly surprised. I’m sure someday I’ll purchase Luigi’s Mansion 4. Expand

You just need to get used to its controls. Due to the fix cameras in this 3D game it can be hard to aim with the vacuum cleaner, aka the Poltergust G-00, especially vertically. Another aspect which needs to get used to is the fact that Luigi and Gooigi (Luigi's carbon copy in green jelly) can't jump properly, steps and podiums can become insuperable obstacles. And sometimes a certain linearity can install during game play, luckily it's been broken sometimes by unexpected events.
On the plus side we have the advices of E.Gadd the scientist without those it would've taken me much longer to finish the game. Then it's big fun to alternate the control between Luigi and Gooigi, from time to time they even need to act simultaneously.
But the greatest thing about this game are the boss battles, each different and needing specific tactics.
Finally I also liked the nearly senseless money gathering, which reminded me of Wario platformers, games I particularly cherish.

This game is a nice addition to the Switch's library, one of those games you better don't miss if you own the console.

I'd like to thank Nintendo for keeping Luigi to say 'Mario', wondering where is he. My father used to find so funny that luigi quote. Unfortunatley, he passed away and I couldn't show him that voice line. Overall the fun in this game is funny and keeps similar to the previous titles. The graphics are nice in contrast with illumination and light spots from the scennery. It's a must have!

    Cons:
    - VERY SHORT campaign (finished in 19 hours, all Boos, 74/102 gems, all but one rare ghost).
    - Gameplay is extremely one note from beginning to end.
    - Collectible items are there to solely pad playtime.
    - Controls are often sluggish and imprecise.
    - No selectable user difficulty levels.
    - The low health beep sound effect is way too loud and annoying and can die in a ghost fire.
    - Multiplayer is poorly designed and half-heartedly tacked on.

All told, I'd give the total package a 7.5, perhaps rounded up to an 8 if I'm feeling generous. It's a decent enough title, but still second tier compared to other Nintendo properties like Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, or Splatoon 2.

Definitely a "should play" on the Nintendo Switch. Not quite up there with Odyssey and BoTW. Small things detract from the overall experience.

The cutscenes are cute, but not very immersive. Just a bit more voice acting "more than mumble speech" would be good, especially when you see the characters mouths moving.

Not being able to SKIP the cutscenes, especially when the play after you die, was annoying.

More is not better. Having multiple different actions on the same button because they ran out of buttons they could use was bad (dark light + primary action on the same button). There were times where I felt like I didn't have good control of the character.

None of the puzzles were crazy obscure, some required some crazy good timing.

The fact that it's a collect-a-thon that doesn't let you continue after you "beat the game" without returning to a point in your save where you haven't won (a la Breath of the Wild) was annoying. Taking AWAY the in-game achievement for finishing the game was downright annoying.
overall a very good game, special and worthy of the legacy of the original.

I only mention this because I feel there are probably others that passed on earlier Nintendo consoles, and may also be experiencing this series for the first time. What can you expect?

Mario + Ghostbusters, pretty much what you think. There are a few nagging issues (the controls are finicky and tough to get use to, and the MP mode is devoid of any campaign co-op option) but overall this game is incredibly satisfying and fun.

One thing that stood out was presentation. I'm a Nintendo fan, so I say this with love - Nintendo is terrible at presentation in games. I've never cared about Mario, Luigi, Peach or Toad as actual characters, and I doubt many others have either. However the amount of distinction they are given in this title is inspiring.

From Luigi's hilariously over the top "scared Italian" voice to Mario only speaking in Mario euphemisms - it was a delightful presentation of character that is sorely missing in other games they are featured in. The animations of Luigi are entertaining too - I just about died laughing the first time I noticed "scared face".

There is so much charm here its almost sickening, but its cut nicely by the dark and dreary atmosphere the game creates.

Difficulty is there, surprisingly. It doesn't ramp up until about halfway through - but that's still much sooner than most Nintendo FP titles that leave the difficulty spike for the last damn level.

There IS local co-op, in the form of one person handling the gooey and green Luigi variant "Gooigi" - but this also must be unlocked past the main campaign tutorial section.

The humor was a little more relate-able than usual, not really darker or more mature but certainly more encompassing of the adult players. Some references I'm sure no kid is going to understand.

Nintendo continued to be the "Disney" of gaming, creating entertaining and varying games from their staple cast of familiar faces. It's refreshing to find each time I pick something up - it feels fresh, not just a regurgitation of past ideas. Still the same for Luigi - and now I'll be a lifelong fan of this series as well.

    Worth a buy 8/10

    Great
    1. Art style
    2. Creativity in level design. Each floor is basically a new area, the first couple are slightly similar but then they really switch up the pace that I was excited to see what was behind the elevator doors
    3. It's co-op after about an hour in, all the way to the end. I believe its as fun as solo if not better
    4. The online is worth checking out for a short while. There's mini games but those are local only (odd choice)
    5. Boss fights are unique. There isn't a lot of combat throughout the game but the bosses seem to always deliver

    Poor
    1. Control + Movement. Wow, what can I say. You would think it wouldn't be hard to figure out how to aim a light + vacuum at ghost, but IT DOES NOT work the way you'd expect a third person game should. My total play through was 18 hours and 50 some odd minutes, I had around 15-20 deaths, and more than 80% was because the combat, and mechanics just feel off. You always struggle to get Luigi to do what you want him to.
    2. Story is a simple as it comes.
    3. I'd like to see perhaps more cut scenes, or even voice overs. Not really a Nintendo/Mario thing
    4. **BACKTRACKING** It doesn't happen a lot, but towards the end of the game, they start to implement back tracking. You must find "this person" on "this floor" although you really don't know if you should backtrack as the game never implemented it to begin with. To knock it even more, one of the few times you do backtrack, its during a water level in which you must travel down a float, using strange controls with the vacuum. Punishment.
    5. There's achievements but i didn't really know where they were till towards the end of the game
    6. You can't adjust controls
    7. There's a whole lot of money to collect in the game, but you'll be disappointed in what you can buy.

Even after all that, Luigi Manson 3 has great charm, and interactive game play.

Each floor has it's own theme from discotheque and gym to something totally unexpected for an hotel like a pirate (including an ocean in it) and an Egyptian floor. However, some of the floors felt rushed compared to others and there's no big reason to keep exploring them after you beat its corresponding boss as collectibles gems and boos are kind of useless.

Anyway, it's a good game and I'm happy for what it is. For the next one, I'd really enjoy if they do something like a Metroid style exploration and hope they bring the polterpup back, he is hilarious.

Overall I enjoyed my time with the game, although I do feel it was maybe 2-3 hours too long, it did start to overstay its welcome a little by the end.

Luigi's Mansion 3 is arguably one of the best games of 2019, with such fun gameplay and cool level design, it is inconceivable to give it a bad score. The only negative I would say is the story and the bosses.

The camera is always very "horizontal" and sometimes you can't really see the depth of the room and have to do some "leaps of faith" so to speak. It can be hard to estimate distances in the depth. The gameplay is nice but can get a little dull after some time.
    Overall, good game :)

In addition the game is pretty good, one of the most detailed and beautiful games i've ever seen on Nintendo switch. You can literally interact with every single thing of the hotel making you explore each room looking for all the secrets that are hidden; what won't be an easy task if you want to collect all the jewels and capture all boos.
This game of the Luigi's Mansion franchise brings lots of new elements but keeping the essence of the saga, what is great. We'll have new skills that will help us to capture the ghosts and explore every single corner, and they make this game to feel fresh and at the same time loyal.
It's obvious that there're some floors better than others. However, each one has something special that makes them different from each other; every floor is a unique experience. Moreover, we'll have to face a new boss in the end of every level (which were my favorite part of the entire game)
Despite the main story is great, the online mode not so much... It's true that is really fun in the beginning, but you get bored of it soon. The reason of this is the lack of a reward system or any other thing that hooks you on; there is not a reason to keep playing it. At least, it is perfectly playable with no connection issues. This is also why the game experience is so short, once you finish the story there is not much more to do... Which is annoying for a game that is so expensive (This happens a lot with many nintendo games).

The open-form exploration of the first game is back, which I whole-heartedly welcome, because I found the mission structure of LM2 very limiting and annoying.

You still have the same basic abilities: Suck, blow, flashlight, and dark light. New is the addition of Gooigi, a second Luigi made of green Goo with special abilities that you can summon by the push of the right analogue stick to help you out with puzzles or in combat. All these mechanics get utilized very well over the course of the game. I only would have liked for

    SPOILER

the super-vacuum to be utilized far more often, because it is just so much fun. It would have been ideal for the final boss fight as well. Have a lightning bolt strike Luigi (and maybe Gooigi) on the roof of the hotel so now they can use the super-vacuum without the need for an outlet. Would have been epic and an appropriate climax. The way it is now, it really only makes two appearances, of which one is optional.

    /SPOILER

The graphics are amazing for Switch standards and the art design is really diverse, imaginative and colourful. You progress up the hotel by collecting missing elevator buttons and every floor has its own, unique theme, complete with an accompanying boss fight. So the whole game is kind of like a theme park. It truly never gets boring and the attention to detail is very apparent. As always, the environment is also very interactive.

The only issues I have with LM3 are ones that I already had with its predecessors. Depth perecption is still quite an issue because the camera is zoomed out so far that it can be hard sometimes to tell where an object or ghost is located in relation to Luigi. Which ties directly into my next issue with the controls. Mostly, they are fine, but sucking things up and aiming to shoot them at a specific object can be really tricky, especially in the heat of a (boss) battle. Also, I always feel like Luigi is just too sluggish on his feet, which is most apparent in the afore-mentioned boss battles, when the game sometimes requires you to have pretty fast reactions. Which is also a difficulty spike that's not in tune with the generally really relaxed pace of the rest of the game. In LM2, this was kind of remedied by giving Luigi a dodge-move. But, for reasons beyond my comprehension, they removed that move.

Then you also unnecessarily lose control of Luigi far too often, every time anything at all happens around him, which I find to be very annoying. Which leads me to my next point: After three games of confronting his fear of ghosts, how can Luigi still be such a whimp? I mean, it may sound kind of silly to ask for character development in a Mario-related game, but this schtick of Luigi as a coward is getting kind of old for me now.

In conclusion, a more than worthy successor to the Luigi's Mansion franchise. Nothing's really that different gameplay-wise, but that's because it doesn't need to be. If you liked the first two games, you can't go wrong here.

P.S. Who are all these Spanish/Mexican people review-bombing this? Are these all fake-accounts from the same guy? This is an English website, dude. If you can't write your review in English, don't even bother.

    This one's also hilarious:
"We feel we have been tricked!
The kids were totally disappointed, and me too.
Where do these high ratings originate from?
I understand now why the preview movie in the estore was so obfuscating.
Don't waste your money time and expectations on it.
It's not a platformer but a very boring kind of role playing game"

If you seriously couldn't figure out that this isn't a platformer (just because it has "Luigi" in the title??) before you spent 60$ on it, you're a dumb-dumb. Nobody tricked you. Not to mention that you also don't seem to know what constitutes a "role playing game".

It is a bit rough around the edges—you can tell it wasn't developed by Nintendo themselves; it's not up to the standard of Breath of the Wild or Mario Odyssey in terms of polish. Also beware that it is a bit short; I've only clocked 5 hours and I'm about halfway through the story at the time of writing. Because it's so fun I feel like I'd be happy to play it a second time to find all the secrets so the value isn't all that bad though.

Also, don't get it for the multiplayer—I found these components a bit lacklustre. There are three minigames a bit like in the Mario Party games that don't really have lasting value. There's also a multiplayer arcade mode that uses the same mechanics as single player but I find it a bit dry. Single-player co-op works well however and is much better then the pathetic co-op experience in Odyssey. Odyssey's co-op was ok for laughs but wasn't really playable, whereas you could actually enjoy the story with a friend playing along in this game.

Overall, it's a very fun experience that is otherwise well thought-out and executed. No regrets buying it at launch; even if it isn't the amazing experience offered by BotW or Odyssey, this one's definitely a keeper along with the other top Switch games.

Luigi's constant consternation stopped amusing me after a couple of hours. Periodic backtracking is annoying. Mechanics who introduce only for the sake of one scene generally raise a dumb question "why."

However, the game is just cool physics and cool bosses, each of which needs a unique approach .

The small cast of characters are bursting with classic Nintendo flavor and the level of polish is exceptional.

The additional of a substantive cooperative mode option is a welcome addition, and extremely well designed for casual couch sessions. A second player can drop into the game at any time and take command of a 'copy' of Luigi with special abilities and a large room for error, perfect for a significant other or friend who is less skilled but still interested in playing alongside you.

Prop Art, Sound, and Animation are particularly delightful. I laughed out loud throughout as Luigi's knees quivered, ghosts shook nearby bookshelves, and toilet paper rolls exploded in response to my Poltergust vacuum rampage through a bathroom.

My two major complaints would be pacing and controls. The game dragged on a bit towards the end, with too little variation in the final third of the game. There were occasional frustrating spikes in difficulty - mostly related to the controls themselves. Working both sticks while trying to perform actions can be difficult at times, and launching projectiles accurately at enemies was often frustrating.

Overall, a delightful and lengthy adventure alongside Luigi and Professor E. Gadd with hilarious cameos from familiar faces in the Mushroom Kingdom cast. Recommended for fans of the franchises or newcomers alike, especially if you're embarking with a casual co-op partner.

I am almost finished with the game and it is fantastic. The levels are creative, the designs look great, it is your typical Nintendo quality game. My only complaint and reason I gave it an 8 is the controls.

A bit boring for solo player. First 10 hours is okay, then it becomes repetitive to play, This is more like a family game.

Edit: after pushing myself to play for a second time, I find more fun searching for the hidden gems. The map is well designed for exploration.

    This is a good game.
Solving puzzles is not too difficult, ghosts are not terrifying.

Easily one of the most beautifully animated games on the switch Luigi’s Mansion 3 is fun for everyone. It’s not as much of a push-over as you’d expect and more than keeps you guessing from puzzle to puzzle. New mechanics keep things feeling fresh but even the best puzzles can sometimes outstay their welcome.

This is my first Luigi's mansion game, and I really liked it for the most part. I really liked all of the puzzles and levels. The only thing I don't like so much is the camera controls (non-existent) and the aiming for the suction shot is a bit bothersome.

Gooigi is a nice addition, and I'm glad he didn't just fade into the background after a few floors. The desert stage is so good, and I love that the sand physics are fairly realistic in the entire stage. The movie director stage and the disco stage are two more highlights. I could talk about almost all of the stages, but I don't have enough characters. I don't really like how you just save toads until the final level (would it kill you to send Yoshi or wario so that we care more), but that's so minor I don't even care. The difficulty is just right (no Yoshi's crafted world baby stuff), and the gameplay is just like the second game but more in depth, with the suck, blow, stro-bulb, and dark-light returning, as well as the plunger, the "Sight jacking", and the aforementioned gooigi being added to luigi's arsenal. I'm not a huge fan of backtracking for toad and the kitty, especially when b2 is my least favorite stage in the whole game, but hey, that's subjective. I wish there was either a little more, or a lot less puzzle solving. It's too much for a normal luigi's mansion, but not enough for big puzzle game fans. I know I complained a little at the end of this, but this is still a game that you can't get too deep into switch collecting before you pick up. This is a good step up from Dark Moon, and I'm sure I'll get excited when the next game (hopefully) releases on the next Nintendo console. Expand

To make this clear, my rating is only based on my Single Player experience, were I finished the story mode. I know there is a coop mode either, but after I finished the main game, I really don't have the motivation to spend more time with this game which perfectly leads to my reasons, why I give these game only a rating 8/10.

To make this clear, my rating is only based on my Single Player experience, were I finished the story mode. I know there is a coop mode either, but after I finished the main game, I really don't have the motivation to spend more time with this game which perfectly leads to my reasons, why I give these game only a rating 8/10.

First of all. If you played Luigi's Mansion and Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon, you will have no problems to get right into it, because the developers take the best of the previous games and put it together.
Simply great, the game also looks gorgeous and the typical charm Luigi's Mansion has is there from beginning to the end of the game. Furthermore there are 18 different bosses which are clearly the stars of the game thanks to their huge variety they offer when you fight them. Every boss is a unique puzzle which you have to solve to reach the next area.

The scenarios are also very different to each other and offer you a big visual variety. And when you think, that this sounds like a game that deserves more than a 8/10, than you are right, but here is the thing.

The fatal flaw of this game is the playtime. You need about 15 to 20 hours to complete the game in a normal playthrough without collecting all of the stuff you can go for when you want to fully complete it.

In this game you have to explore 17 floors to get to the final boss fight and although I like the boss battles himself the exploring of the floors himself become quickly very repetitive. When you successfully completed the first four floors in the game, you have all the tools the gameplay has to offer and there are still 13 floors remaining.

They bring a new feature with Gooigi to the established formula. Unfortunately the situations where you have to use him are most of the time quite obvious and so after a few floors the feeling of doing the same things over and over again overcome me and the motivation sinks despite the beautiful scenarios. I really struggled with a lack of motivation to make it through the end because of that.

In the end it was overall an enjoyable experience, but I guess I will never play it again, because of these, in my eyes, big issue I had with the game. 11 floors with a playtime roundabout 10 hours would be perfect for this game in my opinion.

Luigi's Mansion 3 is a cool game to play, with lot of clever gameplay and one heck of a vacuum cleaner! I cannot praise it enough for the Egyptian floor which has some cool sand physics. Final boss fight is bit unimaginative. I wish there was more of a point for the collectathon this game is.

The type of difficulty I came to expect from the original isn't really here, but in other areas I think it outshines the original. The bosses on each level wind up being really engaging and more difficult than what the original offered. It also has a bigger emphasis on puzzles.

Overall, what's offered is great, but there are times where the puzzle focus gets a little old. The ghosts in between the bosses also takes a step back from the original. The new slam mechanic (while flashy) reduces the complexity of ghost encounters. To take down ghost health, you have to spam that move and after a certain amount of health is drained, the game unlatches you from the ghost. This removes the challenge the original offered of incentivizing the player to catch ghosts in one go. That said, the boss ghosts offer more challenge and the mechanics can get quite challenging on later floors. The difficulty it offers with these boss ghosts, the puzzles, and the challenge of scrubbing the place dry for money makes the game super fun to play. It just doesn't live up to the original but is far more faithful than Luigi's Mansion 2 ever was.
