I’ve gone on record in the past to note that the original “Luigi’s Mansion” is not only one of my all-time favorite GameCube games, but that it’s honestly one of my personal favorite video games. It’s clever, it’s charming, it’s fun to play, the gameplay still holds up to this day, and it’s all just still a wondrous experience to behold even after almost two decades. It’s clever, it’s charming, it’s fun to play, the gameplay still holds up to this day, and it’s all just still a wondrous experience to behold even after almost two decades. While I did love that game, though, at risk of sounding bad, I never did give “Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon” a shot, simply because I’m not as deeply rooted in handheld games like I was as a child (not counting the Switch, since the system is partially a home console and provides me with more games that feel like “console experiences” than “handheld experiences”). That said, the announcement of “Luigi’s Mansion 3” brought my excitement levels through the roof, as the prospect of a new console “Luigi’s Mansion” game was just too exciting to pass up. And having finally played and beaten the game, I can say it definitely delivered on my expectations!
“Luigi’s Mansion 3” delivers both as a console follow-up to “Luigi’s Mansion,” but also as a fun, charming, family-friendly “horror” game. No, the game isn’t very scary, but for a game about a haunted mansion, “Luigi’s Mansion 3” does do a nice job at creating an appropriate atmosphere, while also nicely eschewing some of the scary moments in favor of charm and lightheartedness. “Mario” games are not story-focused, and while this one doesn’t change that, it does feature some very witty and adorable moments thanks to its bright and memorable cast of characters (Polterpup’s antics are particularly adorable, too). The graphics are extremely sharp, being polished down to the littlest details and bursting at the seams with colorful designs. And from a gameplay perspective, “Luigi’s Mansion 3” retains the fun ghost-catching of the original game, with plenty of changes to help it feel fresh. Combat feels even better here, and the ghost catching feels even smoother as a result of the new options. The Poltergust’s many new control options, such as the Dark-Light, Suction Shot, and Burst are wonderful additions that are taken full advantage of during the game, and the game itself features a vast amount of content. The original “Luigi’s Mansion” was pretty short, but Nintendo’s chosen to beef this one out, and the result is a game that gives you plenty to do, and a lot to explore!
I will say that the game is definitely held back in a few areas. For starters, the controls can be a bit of a hassle to deal with, largely in certain aiming sections. There were more than a few times where I was pondering how a plunger I shot wasn’t lining up, or why the vacuum wouldn’t suck up an energy orb or something to that degree, and that really compounded itself towards the tail-end of the game. While I appreciated that the game was longer than the first, and that there was so much content within the game, many of the puzzles and boss fights near the end can be a bit too obtuse and frustrating to deal with. Sure, it feels good when you get through them, but don’t be surprised if you find yourself needing a guide to understand them.
Those faults aside, though, “Luigi’s Mansion 3” is nevertheless a wonderful game that lives up to its last console entry, and it definitely earns a hearty recommendation. If you’ve enjoyed the series up to this point, “Luigi’s Mansion 3” will surely stand tall among the other titles, along with the many excellent first-party titles on the Switch. It’s nice to see Nintendo bringing this franchise back (especially on a console this time), and here’s hoping they don’t take another 18 years to put another “Luigi’s Mansion” title on a console.
Final rating: 9 out of 10 “Awesome”

Been a pleasurable experience to play at a slow pace and enjoy every single room that I enter, the only knock that I have had so far.. (approx. 9 hours) is the repetitiveness of the ghost battles, the bosses are great and you have to find the perfect way to defeat them but all the base monsters are defeated the same way. Although its a blast to beat them, a little bit of variety would have been welcome.

Visually, everything is crisp and vibrant and aesthetically varied. Each floor and room are distinct and unique and never feels repetitive. Fighting and slamming ghosts around and into each other is incredibly fun and satisfying. Exploration is nuanced and encouraged: you’ll find all kinds of things (sometimes very well hidden). Everything from combat, to exploration, to fighting bosses has this puzzle element to it where you’ll have to really pay attention and figure things out. For those completionists out there, there is plenty to find here.

My only critiques are that the controls can really take some time getting used to, and will still even then feel unintuitive; and that some puzzles/boss fights feel more like trial and error. These are just small complaints that I feel don’t detract from the game even the tiniest bit.

Simply put, Luigi’s Mansion 3 is a fantastic game that is just pure fun and charming that it continuously left a smile on my face. I can’t recommend this title enough, and I give it two big thumbs up!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is an absolute joyride from start to finish. Luigi's Mansion 3 is a contender for the Best Game on Switch this year, and there are so many reasons on why.

+ Superb primary and secondary gameplay loop. Almost every single aspect of you exploring the hotel, solving clever puzzles on each floor and capturing ghosts is with one single aspect in mind: Fun. Nothing feels like a slog, nothing feels like it drags too long, something Dark Moon had many issues with

+ Gooigi is the best new addition the Mushroom Kingdom has seen yet. He's not a gimmick, he feels like an actual part of this franchise. He's a creature made out of goo and has more character to him that any right he has to be.

+ Floor bosses are all unique not only in their looks but also their fights. The ways you duke it out with every boss is both exciting and tricky. Some bosses are better than others, though none of them felt tedious to fight against. A personal favourite of mine was Morty, the film director in Floor 7. His capturing is entirely optional and his fight consists of a Godzilla-like movie which he recorded.

+ Disabling E. Gadds tips. Thank god.

+ Online Mode which adds tons of replayability. Play it with friends instead of randoms, the latter tends to not go well

~There is one element to the game where a cat steals your button to the next floor, and that segment has you go through already visited floors - it's boring and uninteresting.

    - Difficulties with the controls at the final boss - auto-lock is confusing and works against you.

I can't say much otherwise other than this game is a must-have for the Switch. Glorious Next Level Games!

The lighting effects are incredible and the character models and environment have very intricate detail. For example, you can see stitches on Luigi's hat/clothes and the hotel rooms are PACKED with interact-able objects. The animations of the characters have also vastly improved. Everything is fluid. Luigi's facial expressions and body language ooze personality and the same goes for the new ghosts and other NPCs. I was also surprised how many animated cut-scenes this game has. It's almost as if you're watching an interactive pixar movie. I also just want to take the time to appreciate how each boss (like in the 1st game) has a unique design and personality. The 2nd game on 3DS was criticized for generic bosses and Next Level games delivered this time around. The game also performs very well. I haven't ran into any dips in frame rate, come to think of it.

Gameplay: This game feels like a mix between the 1st and 2nd games. Because unlike the 3DS, the Switch has 2 control sticks. Therefore, you can move Luigi and the flashlight independent of one another like in the 1st game. It feels like the 2nd game in regards to how Luigi moves and how sucking up ghosts works, which i'm glad they kept. What I really appreciate about this game is how they took criticism of the 1st 2 games and used it to shape this one. For example, the 1st game on the Gamecube could be completed in one sitting and the controls felt a bit awkward at times. The 2nd game on 3DS ditched the single mansion setting in favor of a level-structure like in the Mario games, which wasn't terrible, but the 1st game's labyrinth-like feel fits the series better imo. Which brings us to the 3rd game which takes place in a large hotel where each floor has a different theme, but all areas still connected. Luigi's "poltergust" vacuum is given some new tricks that add much more depth to the gameplay. One new feature is the suction shot that allows Luigi shoot a plunger, which he can pull to open heavy doors or flip large items. The dark light returns from the 2nd game is used to uncover secrets invisible to the naked eye. Lastly, we have "Gooigi", a gooey manifestation of Luigi's spirit (I think) that can squeeze through tight spaces and slip through hazards in order to solve puzzles. ALL of the poltergust's functions are used in very creative ways.

Content: This is honestly the most content-packed game of the series. There's the main story mode, screampark (a multiplayer minigame mode that can be played with up to 8 people locally on 1 console) and the Scarescraper (an online multiplayer mode that can be played with 4 people over the internet or locally should each player have their own console). I had a blast with all these modes. The story mode is the longest out of the series and you'll most likely want to jump back in to capture all the Boo ghosts and collect every gem on each floor, which are hid pretty well. And there's basically infinite replayability with the multiplayer modes and not only that, Nintendo plans to add more scream park games via paid DLC.

Difficulty: The game is actually a nice challenge. The hardest parts are the puzzles and a few of the bosses. What I like about the bosses is that they are kind of like puzzles themselves. Some bosses had me running around in circles figuring out what to do and there's nothing wrong with that. This game encourages you to put pieces together and study your surroundings. Not all games marketed towards younger audiences have to hold your hand all the time AHEM Pokemon AHEM. And of course if you're stumped, Professor E Gadd may have a tip, but he won't spoil too much.

Cons: First, there is no option to invert the Y-axis, which I feel should be standard in 3D games. It's not a big deal, but something worth noting. Second, there's not much variety in enemy ghosts and by enemy, I mean NON-BOSS ghosts. The bosses are a major improvement and one of the highlights of the game, but the standard enemy ghosts are few in variety. And who knows, this may just be to save ideas for the next game.

Verdict: Luigi's Mansion 3 is a very polished game and deserving of the "3" in its title. Next level games has proved they can make an astounding game that takes advantage of the Switch's hardware and build up upon what the series had established. If you are interested in buying this game, please consider buying a new copy (or digital) and supporting the developers for their hard work, they deserve it.

I really like a lot of this game. It is beautiful, it is funny, it is "scary" and it hase some really cool floors in the mansion. The overall product is really really good and absolutely enjoyable. The ONE big downside is its difficulty. It is waaay to easy. Ghosts are not challenging at all. That being said, it is ok if you just want to relax and enjoy the funny secrets they put in.

The overall product is really really good and absolutely enjoyable. The ONE big downside is its difficulty. It is waaay to easy. Ghosts are not challenging at all. That being said, it is ok if you just want to relax and enjoy the funny secrets they put in.
I highly recommend playing this with a friend in co-op on the couch. Thats the way they intended to play the game.
The best thing about it, are the secrets tho. Some of them are quite challenging. I wished for more things to buy in the shop. It wouldve been nice if you had to find more upgrades for Luigis vacuum cleaner. Like increasing the smash damage or the suction power. That way the player wouldve had a sense of progression throughout the game.
But these are just minor downsides. I loved everything the game had to offer. It is really fun to play after all.
Hands down, one of the best games on the Switch!

Pra quem curte um jogo rico em puzzle Luigi's é um prato cheio, um game lindo visto o hardware fraco do switch, jogabilidade fantastica e puzzles bem inteligentes, peca pela falta de carisma dos personagens e uma história bem rasa. Super recomendo

A charming near masterpiece of a game and a must-have for any Nintendo Switch owners or future owners. I will say the only things I did feel quite lacklustre was the combat against the standard enemies, I feel like they could have given you more variety in that regard. As was the in-game store where you could trade in money you find throughout the mansion for various items, I still feel like there could have been more variety in the store to spend the money on.

Overall a ridiculous good, charming and fun game.

Nintendo just keeps getting better. This may be the sleeper hit of the year. Beautiful, spooky, funny, challenging, surprisingly long...the only thing holding this game getting a 10 for me is the clunky controls.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It was a truly a good game. I really liked the graphics (very detailed), clever puzzles, good game mechanics (Gooigi unexpectedly shocked me, how much I liked him) and nearly every boss (The King and the Hotel Owner required a little more of thinking from me). Soundtrack gave a good atmosphere for these game (comfy as well as spooky sounds). Overall, I'm positive about this game, but I had a few struggles here and there. For example while in the pyramid, in the room where ceiling is coming down thx to the snakes statues with lasers. It took me a while to figure out that I should jump near them to stop them. Also, the lack of things to obtain through the money disappointed me a little. I hoped to get the spooky costumes, wearing things clothes adequate to the levels I just beat would be nice. Oh, and the last sad thing about the game was the reward for capturing every boo in the game..
In the end, I had a lot of fun while playing these game. It even made me feel different emotions through the gameplay time. I will recommend Luigi's Mansion 3 to every single person who looks for a nice adventure under 25h mark.

This game truly feels like the culmination of the two games that came before it. The darker, spooky atmosphere of the first game is back, with all the intricate environments, clever puzzles and diverse mechanics of the second game. The polish, attention to detail, and cutscene animations are gorgeous. This game is a joy to play.

Luigi’s mansion 3 is the best game the series. It combines the fun of exploring a giant haunted hotel with the joy of sucking up ghosts. There are a lot of puzzles to solve, and you feel so proud of yourself when you figure them out because they’re difficult.

Luigi’s mansion 3 has a brilliant story, with many different types of ghosts with unique personalities.

My favorite part of of this game is definitely battling ghosts. The combat system is great & it’s so satisfying to slam ghosts into the ground. I love that the devs added two brand new multiplayer modes in the game. ScreamPark is ok, but scare scraper it pretty good, and they’ll give you a couple hours extra of fun added on top of the main story mode.

I just wish the game was longer, the main story mode is only ~15 hours long, which isn’t that long. I also wish there was just a bit more ghosts, but that’s just a nitpick. Also, the controls can feel a bit wonky at times.

Overall, I really recommend Luigis mansion 3 to any switch owner, it’s certainly one of the best Switch games of all time, 9/10

TL;DR: This game is amazing, go buy it!

This game didn't turn out to be what I had hoped for but I still like it. I feel like Nintendo likes to dedicate too much to simplifying things to really capture the feel of the original. The way Luigi would hum the theme song and how much the original really pushed you to think creatively and outside the box. Now it's just shining a black light in random places to find a secret. IThis game didn't turn out to be what I had hoped for but I still like it. I feel like Nintendo likes to dedicate too much to simplifying things to really capture the feel of the original. The way Luigi would hum the theme song and how much the original really pushed you to think creatively and outside the box. Now it's just shining a black light in random places to find a secret. I remember the gold room in the original where you had to climb to the top of the mansion and fall through the chimney to get in. How you scanned the mirrors to be teleported to different places. Nothing was explained and it was a real sense of discovery.

I feel like some charm was lost in this game as apposed to the original, watching the machine press ghosts into paintings was fun and I never knew how much I missed it. I'm also not a fan of this being a hotel instead of a mansion. The shortcuts where you could walk from one place to another in shorter amounts of and everything interconnected. Here the only way to get around is the elevator and it takes away from the experience a little.

That's enough about the past though, we should talk about this game and how it stands on it's own. I think it's fantastic and I love it so very much. The animations and physics give it a unique charm and it's shown that a lot of love and effort was put into this game. The Co-op feels fresh and unique, furthermore it's extremely fun and doesn't feel added in last minute. Actually I recommend highly you do co-op with a friend as it adds a ton of fun to the experience. It missed the mark on a few things but it does really welcome home those of us who remember the original so fondly. That feeling you got the first time you played Luigi's Mansion is there. I've had a smile on my face through the whole game. Because overall it's fun and that's one of the most important things about a Nintendo game and what they are known so well for.

I recommend this game highly and I think it's a perfect entry in the series. A title so good it's worthy to be placed on a shelf beside the original. This probably seems like random rambling and praise but I don't really want to spoil it too much. All I know is if you really loved the original this one will feel welcoming to you for sure.

Let me start off with something so detailed and great, which is the cinematic cut-scenes. Seriously, it looks like a beautiful animated movie! The game-play is like the first and second game-play combined into this! The suction shot is really good and handy but the slam function takes a lot of the "Ghost-busters" action into just slamming ghosts back and forth. There are some tough puzzles along the way, but being logical and to think outside the box will solve it!
The story is overall great and the cast of different types of ghosts and portrait ghosts. The portrait ghosts (from the first game) are basically bosses but these bosses can be from easy and simple to really challenging and quite unique. The difficulty is tough and a bit challenging. It's quite a bit disappointing that the ghost battles (not boss battles) aren't hard enough, including towards the late-game content. Also, it feels there isn't enough ghosts battles, basically we need more battles with ghosts, it feels like I'm not encountering them enough per floor. Also, the game isn't scarier as the first two Luigi's Mansion games, but it's still scary!

Other than that the game is spectacular! From cinematic cut-scenes to fighting challenging and unique bosses, this game is fun, scary, unique and has marvelous graphics! So, I give this game a score of 9! [9]

This is the first Luigi's Mansion game I have ever played.
Starting with the graphics. I have to say this is within the top 5 games graphically on the Nintendo Switch. Best way to describe the graphics, is a Pixar movie from 10-15 years ago. It's very easy on the eye. The physics and music/sound is top tier also. If I was only commenting on these elements, coming from a tablet, I would

It's very easy on the eye. The physics and music/sound is top tier also. If I was only commenting on these elements, coming from a tablet, I would give 10/10. But as always there are some issues;
The controls are funny at times and annoying to control Luigi in some situations.
The bosses were creative and the levels even more so. I was a little disappointed some levels were not fully fleshed out on the theme they portray.
This might be a spoiler so skip to the next paragraph is you don not want to read about the end game. After beating the final boss. You get nothing. I would of wanted to go back and collect items I missed in the campaign, but you cant. Quite frustrating.
I enjoyed the classic Nintendo charm of the game with some lovable characters. The length is just about right as they were so creative in how to do tasks to move through each level.

Luigi's Mansion 3 is an amazing followup to its splendid successors. This game's gameplay is really good. The Poltergust has so many fun uses in this game. If you hit both ZR and ZL, you'll get a boost upwards. The combat in this game is awesome. It feels so rewarding to plunge an object then slam it into a ghost. To defeat a ghost the easy way, you simply use your flashlight to reveal them then suck them up. If I had one complaint about the controls, it's that Luigi moves a little clumsily at times. This game has a heck ton of music. The music is usually to capture the atmosphere or ambience of an area. This game looks absolutely gorgeous. Every area in this game is filled to the brim with details. It gives the game a load of charm and creates really interesting atmospheres. This game's animations and cutscenes are really cute. They're so well-made, that I really don't mind that they're unskippable. This game has a load of post-game content and replayability with a load of collectibles in each stage. In conclusion, Luigi's Mansion 3 is one of the best first-party games on the Switch and certainly worth playing if you're a fan of the series or if you just want some simple, casual fun. Have a lovely day/night, folks! Expand

I loved to explore the hotel and trying to find the gems, the boss battles are fun and unique, everything is cute and well made, all the levels are different and fun.
The cons for me are the boss in the water level (the controls in this part are so bad and counter intuitive) and the multiplayer.

Expand

Luigi’s third solo adventure is the ultimate evolution of it’s formula. A game well designed to be fun either playing alone or with company. Also, it’s visuals and ambiance are incredible.

Despite some misgivings with the extras, the actual core Luigi's Mansion 3 experience is one of the best adventures of 2019. [Issue #44 – January/February 2020, p. 64]
