An often-forgotten gem of the Wii U library gets a new lease of life on its successor, and it marks a perfect stopgap between the majesty of Breath of the Wild and the carnage of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe later this month. Minor framerate issues and higher price tag aside, LEGO City Undercover ranks as one of the very best LEGO games and an ideal portable companion.

Lego City Undercover for Switch doesn’t offer any new content from the Wii U version, but if you never played the Wii U version, than this is an easy choice for Switch owners.

Despite its lack of originality, LEGO City Undercover is a fun and light-hearted LEGO game which you can't help but smile at.

From the hundreds of trinkets to the passersby's stupid comments, LEGO City has me smitten. I’ve finished the story and gathered a handful of collectibles, but LEGO City Undercover will stay in my Switch for a good long while.

If you like LEGO games you can discover now one of the most original entries, but it feels like a missed opportunity to fix its performance issues and add more relevant content, particularly as a full-price release.

LEGO City Undercover is an action-packed platformer filled to the brim with secrets and charm. Whilst the series as a whole has evolved - negating how impressive this was back in 2013 - you'll still find plenty to enjoy on its own merit.

Lego City Undercover is a solid offering from Warner Bros. and TT Games. It doesn’t offer an experience all that different from previous Lego titles, but the jump to the Switch hardware does make it a step up from many other Wii U and 3DS Lego offerings. The game does suffer from some technical warts, but for those that never made the trip to Lego City, this is certainly the best way to experience it.

Still the best LEGO game I’ve played. It is my favorite repeat game. I enjoy the humor and the collectibles.

Grand Theft Lego, as I call it. I enjoy that this is based on original Lego products and not licensed franchises. Well, there are parody ofGrand Theft Lego, as I call it. I enjoy that this is based on original Lego products and not licensed franchises. Well, there are parody of existing franchises (particularly GTA), but the actual Lego sets, minifigures, etc are from the City theme. I was especially impressed with how the developers made GTA into a kid's game (the playable character isn't a bad guy, he's just undercover, etc). I like most of the Lego games I've played and this is one of the best! Expand

This will merely regarding new features, graphics, etc of the new version.

LEGO City Undercover is a great game. In fact, I'd say that it's still easily the best LEGO game -- it has the best open world, the best gameplay, and it has the most collectibles of all of the games. The graphics have been improved in this version, though not drastically. The models and cutscenes look better and the load times don't seem to be as bad as they infamously were in the Wii U game, but that could just be my imagination.

The frame rate for the game, at least when I last played it, was not necessarily "up to par." There were frequent drops and stutters. It was definitely worse in portable mode. Despite this, I found myself playing it quite a bit on portable mode. It really does enhance the game. Another reviewer here said that after you beat the story, the game crashes on a few occasions. This is true, but the game saves every time you do something important like collect something.

I originally gave LEGO City Undercover a 9. This version gets a -2 for frame rate and stutters but a +1 for portability. It's still a great game, but ultimately I have to give it a point lower due to the new issues.

This game fails to understand what makes GTA so refreshing. This game builds an open world, but then fills it with invisible walls. The gameplay falls into a loop: Drive, puzzle, quick-time event, boss, drive, etc. The driving is dull, puzzles are repetitive, and bosses are simply pointless and dull. There is very little detail, and after 15 hours in the game, you haven't even touched 90% of a map, and there's no reason to explore this area. The unused areas are uninteresting unless you enjoy watching cars driving and people moving. Insane pop-ins and pop-outs, a button-bashing combat system, and overused humor. Expand
