An often-forgotten gem of the Wii U library gets a new lease of life on its successor, and it marks a perfect stopgap between the majesty of Breath of the Wild and the carnage of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe later this month. Minor framerate issues and higher price tag aside, LEGO City Undercover ranks as one of the very best LEGO games and an ideal portable companion.

This is the same Lego City Undercover we played on Wii U four years ago, with the only addition of coop multiplayer. A fun adventure, which lasts more than 10 to 15 hours and have lots of collectibles and sense of humor. On the downside, it feels technically outdated.

Lego City Undercover for Switch doesn’t offer any new content from the Wii U version, but if you never played the Wii U version, than this is an easy choice for Switch owners.

Bringing LEGO City Underground to the Nintendo Switch four years after the game's original release is not without its risks but the result is overwhelmingly positive. This is a game that carries out a smooth transition to its new format and which keeps a very fun campaign and featuring content that will keep the players entertained for a long time.

From the hundreds of trinkets to the passersby's stupid comments, LEGO City has me smitten. I’ve finished the story and gathered a handful of collectibles, but LEGO City Undercover will stay in my Switch for a good long while.

With the Switch release, the game has improved somewhat with its performance, however it still has long loads, just not as frequently. If you don’t mind stepping back in time, with regards to the gameplay, compared to the recent Lego titles, you will find enough humour and variety here to entertain you or your little ones.

Apart from some technical limits on Switch, even today, after four years from Wii U release, LEGO City Undercover remains one of the best LEGO games ever.

Lego City Undercover is a worthy addition to the Lego franchise, especially now that is has a multiplayer option. However, technical issues and stale gameplay hold it back from glory.

Despite its lack of originality, LEGO City Undercover is a fun and light-hearted LEGO game which you can't help but smile at.

If you’ve already played the original LEGO City Undercover on Wii U, then there is little reason to pick up this re-release. However, if you were one of the many who missed it the first time around then LEGO City Undercover remains a hilarious riff on police procedurals, built upon a GTA-for-juniors open world blueprint, and stuffed with enjoyable side missions and collectibles to hunt down.

If you like LEGO games you can discover now one of the most original entries, but it feels like a missed opportunity to fix its performance issues and add more relevant content, particularly as a full-price release.

LEGO City Undercover is still the same, joyful, take on the open world action game by Traveller's Tales in perfect LEGO's style. The game is practically the same as before, minus the use of the GamePad but with some increase in performance and a new multiplayer mode.

LEGO City Undercover is an action-packed platformer filled to the brim with secrets and charm. Whilst the series as a whole has evolved - negating how impressive this was back in 2013 - you'll still find plenty to enjoy on its own merit.

Classic Lego’ish action adventure in an open world with bucket loads of Zucker/Abrahams style of humour and the coop mode that was dearly missed in the Wii U original. Unfortunately the Switch version suffers from technical shortcomings like frame rate issues.

A good port of a good game. Had it been given more time for extra bug testing, it might have been great! [Issue #27 – May/June 2017, p. 69]

LEGO City: Undercover doesn't quite stand up as well in its 2017 form as it did when it originally came to Wii U; series improvements have come in the years since that leave this one looking slightly dusty in comparison. There are also some technical issues that hold it back, with odd graphical blemishes - a pity as the updated engine is generally an improvement - along with performance issues in co-op and handheld mode. That said, played as a console game in single player, like its original, this still offers an easy-going and slightly anarchic fun time.

Lego City Undercover is a solid offering from Warner Bros. and TT Games. It doesn’t offer an experience all that different from previous Lego titles, but the jump to the Switch hardware does make it a step up from many other Wii U and 3DS Lego offerings. The game does suffer from some technical warts, but for those that never made the trip to Lego City, this is certainly the best way to experience it.

The only minor gripe I have with this game is that the eshop version is coming in at around €50 here but the physical card can be bought for €30-35 it's just a shame to have to pay an additional €20 for the convenience of not having to swap out game cards to play this if the digital versions cost was in line with the RRP it seems to be following right now.

Really great game though, if you're looking for another open world that isn't Hyrule then this is well work checking out.

Yea, the game looks quite cool and I like the basic humor, but thats pretty much it. The framerate in this game is absolutely unacceptable. InYea, the game looks quite cool and I like the basic humor, but thats pretty much it. The framerate in this game is absolutely unacceptable. In undocked mode it happens quite regularly, that the game drops to 15fps and lower, making it basically unplayable. Do not buy! Full Review »
