    Our expectations were low but holy f*ck. This is wrong on so many levels but knowing Rockstar no issue will be resolved. Imagine having trouble hitting 60 fps in a 20 years old game.

    The worst 60 bucks I've ever spent on a game, alongside Aliens Colonial Marines (to put things into perspective). Now I understand why they didn't release any footage of the Switch version and locked the release worldwide at the same hour, hoping that gullible idiots like me would impatiently throw money at Rockstar.     The Rockstar that used to publish consistently polished games is officially gone lol. Terrible """Remaster""" and the title is likewise up there with BFBB as one of the worst Switch conversions. These were 20 year old games that were never exceptionally good looking to begin with which makes this game's Sims/Nintendo Hire This Man graphical style all the more insulting.     I don't understand how some are saying you can still have fun with these games.

    The controls are useless, the framerate makes controlling the game even harder. The gameplay is completely broken with some invisible walls and other walls you can drive straight through. Vehicles pop up out of nowhere making you crash and driving is unresponsive.     I don't care so much about the graphics which are a joke by the way but the advertising indicated gta5 level controls. All I can see is slight button remapping. Gameplay and control is way worse than the originals.

    Playing this game is so frustrating I nearly threw my brand new Switch Oled against the wall.

    I usually wait for reviews before buying games but thought the company behind RDR2 and GTA wouldn't risk their reputation to make some quick money.

    Money doesn't come easily to everyone and Rockstar have disappointed many people who spent $60 on this unplayable mess.    … Expand

    Oh and yeah. Character models really dont look great, while there are some good looking characters (which it is like only 15% of all ) rest are just really **** roblox characters.
    Navigation on GPS is broken and it wont show you many short routs like it did in GTAV and GTAIV
    This really should have been delayed. Also forget about GTAV style controls, they are not.
    This is literally the worst way to spend 60 bucks on it.
    For now, don't buy it, wait for sale and future update.
    This is what mods died for. Please, save yourself from this god awful buggy remaster.
    And just homebrew your Switch and play RE3 and REVC
    They are 101 % much better. Somehow this launch is way worse than Cyberpunk 2077 had which is a really big joke.    … Expand

    Definitely do not buy this game on Nintendo Switch! Aside from the technical issues currently plaguing all versions of the game, the Switch version also suffers from choppy frame rates, severe asset pop-in and long load times. It's not worth your money.

    GTA Liberty / Vice City Stories from 2005/2006 (!!!!) on the freaking PSP looked and run better. Rockstar lost a costumer who where loyal since buying GTA III in 2001. Lazy & greedy fckfaces.
    I was suspicious since there where no pre-release footage but it is still worse than I    I don't know where to start... Rockstar ur dead to me! Rockstar spits on the Legacy of their own Games...

    I was suspicious since there where no pre-release footage but it is still worse than I excepted. honestly the art style is worse than in the originals, the performance (frame rate) isn't acceptable (its a 2001 and 2002 PS2 Game FFS, look what Studios who actually care about Quality can do on Switch (Crisis Trilogy, Doom, Wolfenstein...). NO new features like swimming, climbing ladders to preserve the "original gameplay/feeling" but u change the cardriving physics and cut symbols and conversations from it, so maybe a lazy excuse?
    PATCH IT. Patch it more than Project CD patches Cyberpunk. Patch it from all the millions $ u get from preorders for 60$ YES 60 Bucks, done under false and misleading advertisement by not showing footage prerelease.
    And let's not talk about the fact they took down the Original Trilogy which I enjoyed playing much more than this ****. call my oldschool but I prefer a coherent artstyle and stable frame rate over shiny reflecting carbodies.
    The only Definitive thing Rockstar achieved here is that I DEFINITIVELY won't buy any Rockstar product from now on!
    If u really want to go to Liberty City or Vice City on Handheld, go get a used PSP and LCStories and VCStories, from a time when Publishers weren't too big to fail and actually cared for consumers and had a inner motivation to create something good, new, artful and innovativ.

I really regret spending that 60$, not even close to being worth the price.
    And honestly - I wish we could just get the original versions, without all the graphical "upgrades", at least - maybe - it would run at a stable 30/60 fps.     Man, this game was on my GOTY list even before it released! But what a mess. Not optimized at all, the stuttering is hideous. The graphics on the old version were even better! Just release the OG versions and throw this away.

    What is even up with the gunplay??? Gonna try to ask my money back.

    It's incredibly disappointing just how little Rockstar have done to remaster these classic games, and even more laughable when they label the release as the Definitive Edition. The supposedly modernised controls have done nothing to improve the terrible shooting, and the whole package reeks of a lazy cash grab.     For Switch version you may want to tweak CJ's timeless words to "No **** here we go again..."

    I will simply state the issues that I have with this game(s). Played each game only for an hour or so. Will update the review later. Off now, can't recommend it unless you are a big GTA fan who just want to get in there and add the big names to your Switch library. Since most of the people here would have already played the games earlier in their lives when they were first released there is no reason to go into the story and fun activities at your dispense.

    Bought the trilogy day one.

    1. Pop-ins are clearly an issue.
    2. Sometimes stationary objects are rendered a bit late.
    3. Speeding is difficult because vehicles in traffic go from 0 opacity to 100 in a second, affecting both gameplay and immersion.
    4. Road textures could be completely bland just giving off a color rather than asphalt look.
    5. Muddy looks on NPCS, trees, some not very far buildings affect the aesthetics.
    6. NPCS and Vehicles' shadows which should form underneath disappear in the evening and stay so until 8:30 in the morning. Yes, you can actually clock it.
    7. Even standing against light source in the night doesn't produce any shadow.
    8. Noted very few bugs owing to the time I could spend. Car doors opening through your character, getting sunk knees down in the sidewalk are frequent ones.
    9. Foliage is clearly updated. But grass blades sticking out in other versions, aesthetically important for me at least, have been completely cropped.
    Most important:
    10. Framerate is very unstable.
    11. Resolution is trashy in docked but bearable in handheld.

    The game has been scaled down just to run on the Switch as opposed to being optimized for the best possible experience on Switch.
    Compared to other open-world games set in modern era with the freedom to cause mayhem and all, Saints Row 3 looks crispier on the Switch and plays better.    … Expand

The frame rate instability makes it borderline unplayable, especially when a lot goes on onscreen. This coupled with graphical pop-in and non-precise controls makes it just not fun to play.     It is completely unacceptable that they couldn't get ps2 games to run well on the Switch. Also its very clear that they didn't manually create HD textures and instead let an algorithm do it, and the results are atrocious, so much text from the originals has been completely butchered. What a waste of time and money, whoever at Rockstar cleared this for launch should be ashamed.

    They've only announced it in October, and released it in November. Instead they should have waited
    and really made sure, that the games look good and are optimized for performance.

    Not releasing any press copies was a massive red flag. They didn't want to have all these magazines
    and gaming outlets report on how horribly bad the games were.

    The way Grove Street Games and Rockstar Games handled this release is outrageous and
    feels like a quick cash grab.

    The version on the Switch is basically unplayable and looks worse than the original games did.
    Constant stuttering, low resolution, textures loading forever, the list is endless.

    When the games were announced, I was as excited as on Christmas Day, but boy have I been disappointed.

    Please do yourself a favor and don't buy this piece of crap.

    These are all great games, some of the most influential AAA sandbox games of all time. I cannot in good conscience recommend you play this version, especially if you wanted to check out the Nintendo Switch version. It’s quite ironic that unnecessary and ugly visual overhauls make these ports of PS2 games almost unplayable on this system. I hate to be cynical, but I don’t think you could salvage these things without redesigning everything from the ground up. Grand Theft Auto deserved better, and you deserve better than to waste your money on this.

    In its current state, the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is only worth getting if you can get it at a large discount and assuming you’re willing to put up with many technical issues on Switch. While a lot of the major bugs I ran into have been addressed in patches, this is still nowhere near as good as it should be given how important these three games are to gaming in general. It also doesn’t help that the Switch patches are delayed compared to other platforms.
