The name of a manor and the family that lived within. A perverted and mad lineage, a clan whose final members devoted their life to mysticism and fanatical experiments. I am Abigail. Abigail Blackwood. Recently risen from the grave, I know nothing about the last 40 years of my family's history... But obviously somebody is keen on seeing me lift the veil on what happened in Oakmarsh - to what led to the downfall of Blackwood Manor. And it seems like I have no choice in the matter...

With a mysterious narrative about an unsettling old manor and its inhabitants, Goetia feels like a classic point and click adventure, but it has many quality of life improvements, which makes it worthwhile for any fan of the genre.

Goetia is a flawed yet engrossing point-and-click-style adventure for those looking for a challenge as well as an interesting story. Aside from the lack of a hint system resulting in the odd infuriatingly obtuse puzzle, it's a bleak, beautiful experience. It’s certainly slow and more text-heavy compared to other titles in the genre on Nintendo Switch, but it’s well-crafted and worth a look.

Goetia is a mixed bag. There are some wonderful moments in here such as the story, which certainly kept me going, and the visuals and soundtrack which do their best to keep you engrossed, are certainly impressive. It falls short, however, due to some of the overly difficult sections that can lead to many frustrating points in the game, which can then make it grow slightly tiresome. What this boils down to is simply that Goetia doesn’t find the perfect balance needed for a truly great point-and-click game. But there is certainly something there for true fans of the genre.

In this review there are no spoilers, I want you to have the same experience I had with the game. Goetia is a point and click mystery, one that starts off compelling but ends in utter disappointment. In Goetia it feels like every step you take forward, you most definitely take three or four steps back. I loved the mystery element of Goetia, it worked well and kept me in suspense. The story was defiantly a well thought out and interesting one. The settings in the game were actually well thought and came with a good degree of difficulty. Each puzzle that was solved left me with a sense of accomplishment. The catch though, for every puzzle solved a new one arose, one more challenging and just as frustrating. Not that it was a problem, because games need to be a challenge. The Problem is when you get nothing out of the challenge, and that was the consistent problem in Goetia. So now that I have set you up with my experience with the game, lets talk about three review elements of Goetia. Graphics, Gameplay, and Sound.
Goetia is a beautiful Game! I was actually amazed by the level of detail that went into the locations in the game. Most point and click games that I have played in the past made it a point not to spend too much time on detail. This often made playing the game less appealing to play and often an eye sore. On the Nintendo Switch, Goetia looks outstanding, its the best part of the game. I took so many screen shots to use on my PC, phone, and other devices. The design team of Goetia really knew what they were doing with the level design. This kept me coming back even when I didn’t have the urge to play it.I played the game two ways, with the Joy-Cons and with the touch controls. My experience was solely in handheld mode and not my monitor. My experience with the Joy-Cons were somewhat mixed and its mainly because the cursor is really slow, when using the joy-cons. Accessing the menus weren’t a problem and just required come clicking of the d-pad. I found that I really enjoyed using the touch controls. Although with the touch controls, who can’t access the hints or at least I couldn’t. Let me know if that was just for me or did other players experience that as well. With the touch controls, Abigail moved faster and I was able to move around better it seemed. It could have just been me, but Goetia is way more fun with the touch controls. It gave the game a more immersive feel and I thought worked well.
I have to say the sound was brilliant. It really make you want to keep going just to hear more of it! The spooky sounds made the game unsettling and set it apart from the other point and click horror games I have played in the past.
While Goetia does mystery well, and there were times I enjoyed it. There is nothing really here to come back to. I really hope some DLC is released, as I feel there are parts of the story that would be interesting to explore further. As a horror/mystery game its not the worst and its worth buying. In my own opinion it had only one playthrough in it. I did everything there was to do. I left no stone unturned in my pursuit to understand what had happened to Abigail Blackwood.
Sushee has done a good job in trying to bring a story to life in Goetia. Although there are some failings as I have mentioned in the opening. This is still a game that should be played and given respect. My goal has been to give you an unbiased review, and a review based on my opinion. For an indie game, its worth the money. In this industry indie games are a refreshing change of pace. Goetia is a game that I was honored to play and review. I enjoyed the games mystery aspect, and I really enjoyed the story. I’m glad to have had the opportunity to review this game and I would recommend this, if you love mystery point and click games, or games based on horror.

I bought it on 90% sale for 0.99€ and it's still the worst game purchase I've ever done.

Text is too small to be played on TV and the game relies 200% on the player reading tiny speech bubbles, ridiculous handwriting fonts and paper-thin lines on grimy textures. This game does not begin to be playable and I hope the developer could afford a Switch and TV sometime so they could learn this and make proper games in the future.

The story is about you being dead, your family being dead, your past life being in ruins and your house being full of demons. Not something I was expecting from age rating 7. Well I'm an adult and I still found this game offensively bad, I suppose no age rating could save this.
