Is a honor to play a game like this. The game have all the best features of the saga in one game. Really good graphics a 60fps. This is a good game that feels fresh and retro at the same time.

I am a big fan of the franchise and I played all the games. I am also a player since the time of the Atari and I like difficult games. But I think this game was made in a way that did not bring me any pleasure in playing. Too many enemies, bad controls and jump like the old game. I tried to play in legend mode and gave up. i ended up in knight mode and never want to see that game again.

I managed to beat level 1 after multiple hours. I'm not the platformer guy but man that was rough. A lot of gamers say Dark Souls is hard and I agree. But it really feels like a walk in the park compared to 2D arcade platformers from the 80s/90s.

Did I enjoy it? Yes. It was very enjoyable.

Some people complain about the bad controls but they clearly never played old games. This remaster is an homage to an era of gaming, not a reboot to give the new generation another 2D platformer they can beat while watching Twtich or Netflix.

    Do I recommend it?
Yes I do, especially if you are a younger gamer and want to know why older gamers talk about how easy gaming has become. Play this game and you will know how it felt to play games in the 80s and early 90s but with better graphics.

This game is brutal. It's Ghosts 'n Goblins, and if you didn't like previous games of the series, you probably won't like this one. However, if you are a fan of the original or Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, REJOICE! The series has finally resurrected after 15 years.

Initially, the art style didn't sit well with me when I first watched the trailer. However, while actually playing the game, I can say the art is gorgeous. Environments pop with color and constantly move with subtle (and not-so-subtle) animations. In this respect, think Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts on steroids.

Gameplay-wise, I'll say it again: It's Ghosts 'n Goblins. You need tons of patience to play this game. There ARE lower difficulty levels for easier traversal. But even then, gameplay relies on a lot of trial and error (you will die a lot). There are times where it feels like the game isn't exactly well balanced. Player movement is incredibly, comically slow, and this isn't a real problem most of the time, as you will be inundated with enemies and movement will be a slow crawl to the finish anyway. But during a few boss battles, you're slow movement will hinder you from dodging fast attacks, which can be infuriating. The only way around this is to carefully analyze boss attack patterns, and to keep moving. But even then, I feel like the developers should have increased player movement slightly to make the game feel better balanced. I also greatly miss the double jump featured in Ghouls 'n Ghosts, as it added another layer of protection as well as gameplay variety. Because of this, Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts will remain my favorite in the series. But all in all I enjoyed getting my ass handed to me in this new land of Ghosts 'n Goblins, and I pray to the Great Demon Lord Sardius that there will be a sequel.

The art is fine and very reminiscent of the original. Levels of difficulty are meant to make the game accessible to different levels of player. This game does not do that. Even the lowest difficulty level proves frustrating at best. I'm not opposed to challenge, but this one is just ridiculous.

Simply ignore the critics, if you are a longtime fan of GnG and enjoy the suffering asociated with Sir Arthur s adventures its probably one of the best entrances in the story of the franchise, a true small masterpiece ful of diabolical good ideas and challenge.

I was excited when they announced the game I was hyped. But once I played the game it was highly disappointing. The game is okay. Just the controller was way off. It is challenging but not the same as the older games. Can't even jump high, few stages are hard to see. Capcom purposely did it so people can break their controllers so Nintendo can get profit. Worse graphic as well.

This game is Ghosts and Goblins...with some boring spell abilities and about it, really. Well, that was a waste of money when I have both in the Nintendo Plus stor already with my subscription...K, so a 1? Wow, harsh, right?

Well, here's the thing, only the most hardcore will bother to come here and jilt the review score up, and in doing so, the elitism surrounding this series and "retro" game franchises, in general, will continue to propagate. No mister full-time job and only a few hours and a little expendable cash, this isn't for you, you won't enjoy, nor understand why the difficulties don't seem to matter, or why it seems like the developers of the game hate you and your decision to support them.

Marginally increase movement speed and jump distance on lower difficulties? Let the greater difficulties actually have some meaning for greater replay value? Spend time to code different AI and level designs for the difficulties? Nah be too much effort; here's a platform that moves halfway (but not close enough to jump to yet), then all way away from you, then all the way towards you (ha didn't see that one eh? wellp back to the checkpoint then bud!) with a red devil buzzing you into the water for insta death entire time OH JEE SO MUCH FUN!

Oh, you played on squire because you just replayed the original one to celebrate this one's release and wanted to take it easy to start after that? Cool, wellp we don't care. This is a water trap...on the first stage...of GnG...cos...oh ya... there are only 7 levels...I mean we gotta pad this dumpster fire out somehow right?

Okay seriously, I didn't buy this just to have ANOTHER version of nearly the exact same game. I don't know, call me crazy, but I was kinda hoping for like, ya know,a little bit of a new experience.

Maybe difficulties that change the way the game plays allow you to somewhat familiarize yourself with enemies' movements before moving on. No, if you beat this once likely, you'll never pick this up again.

So why a 1 review, eh? I've raged and rambled for this long, but why? Well, in hopes the devs see this. In hopes they un F themselves a little, in hopes the elitism behind otherwise amazingly creative and fun franchises (if not intentionally brutal) wanes a bit, in hopes they release a patch for on squire difficulty, so he moves a little.bit.faster.

Painful is the only way I can describe it, and no, not in an "I CAN DO THIS I JUST GOTTA GET GID" way that the originals, games like Castlevania 1-4 or Dark Souls series offers. No, this is just a sad rehash of an old franchise that never seems to understand; it was never really that popular throughout history vs other platformers because, well, it griefs the player, and it's just miserable to move around.

SMB is a joy of a game and challenging, as are Castlevania games, especially the fourth one. GnG Regurgitated just brings back the worst parts of retro gaming to flaunt out as if that's what made old games great. No. Crap like this we put up with because it's all we had.

The good? I don't know; nothing really stands out. Seriously go play the originals, they not really as cheap shotty as this one, so at the end of this review, maybe I've contradicted myself because this actually isn't ANYTHING like the originals in spirit. On some level it does feel like I can move faster in the originals, it's as if I'm having fun, because for every cheap trick to set me back, there's an enemy I aced, an upgrade I tried out and liked, an extra suit of armor when I didn't think I'd see one again saving me in the nick of time. In other words, I'm having a fun, and challenging time playing the originals.

No, not this one, though. This game came out in 2021. The developers figured instead of taking time and effort to program actual curving AI and varying level design throughout diff levels of challenge, they'd just do the same thing repeatedly but give you a few extra hits and slow down enemies or something. Insultingly they also reduce the lowest setting to like a cheat mode? Cause F the player wanting any reasonable challenge to learn the game with, I guess?

Oh, the abilities, like why? He doesn't need them, and they all suck, end of the story. Why waste time blowing off some lightning crap when a few well-thrown daggers clears the board in half the time? Things like this make little sense and barely add to the experience.

So okay, that's about all I have to say, but one last time, really a 1/10? Yup, it was a waste of money, and I feel lied to by the pre-emptive news and description of the game by devs/publisher. If Nintendo weren't crooked and let you refund games, I would of by now.

I didn't realize Metacritic had become just like Steam ;-) If you put 30 minutes into it and ragequit, you *probably* had enough salt in your veins to give this game a ZERO. So why even bother reviewing it?

If you don't like this kind of game, or expect it to be Celeste or Ori (both games I have no interest in playing for the very reasons ppl seem to have such a beef with this one--the art style), then don't ruin the chances for a sequel for the people that DO like this kind of game (and art) by review bombing it, especially with your already-free copy. Simple!

That out of the way, I loved this game, with reservations. And, novel idea for a review, I've actually played it to the end! On Knight, no less. (All told, ~20 hrs and 3 thorough Playthroughs) Yes, I got MAD, but certainly far less than I ever did playing games like Section-Z in Arcade Cabinet, where I had to save my game every ten seconds.

There are multiple opportunities to save your progress. After you finish a stage you can go back and get the secrets for completion, etc. You also don't have to play the entire game in one go as in the arcade and SNES versions, which I reckon the reviewers that spent 30 minutes on this game did not discover, nor did they discover any of the secrets, perks and cool bosses and stages along the way.

When it comes to the identity of the game itself, this is more of a mash-up of the first two games, as the developers themselves have said; if you really don't see that coming in, take a look at the older games. The expectation of double jump for every platform, for instance, is ironically because of *later entries* in series like this one.

For the art style? Take a look at the old box illustrations.
To say it is Flash is to have a very selective, weird nostalgia for Flash, and certainly a disservice to the work that Capcom put into this game. Anyone that enjoyed unusual looking games like Darkest Dungeon doesn't seem to have a problem with "tweening" and the days of Capcom doing pixel art ended back in the CPS-3 days; if you recall even the ever-beloved Maximo of nearly two decades ago was full 3D. If anything this game looks like a puppet show, which being a puppeteer and mostly flat artist, speaks to my aesthetic soul. MORE Gilliam-esque and puppety games, please!

This game is not perfect: none of the games in this series except Ghouls'N Ghosts are perfect according to my incredibly biased nostalgia (perhaps almost as biased as the salt I've seen about this game). However, a 10 for a ZERO is a decent trade.

This is a really good, fun, unique looking, FRUSTRATING game. If you have patience and accept that your sensibilities of a perfect run will be tested (don't pretend you're gonna be a Legend on your first try), you will see some cool stuff. And, if you get upset, play it with friend: Trust me.

It starts out as an uphill battle with the odds stacked against you. The more you play, the better you get and the more magic you will unlock until you truly become a force to be reckoned with.

If you're the type that frustrates easily and like a casual adventure without dying then this will not be the game for you. It requires patience, analysis, and strategy to successfully navigate your way through the Demon Realm without dying. There are difficulty settings to make it easier like giving more check points and such but don't expect this game to turn into a passive stroll through the park at any point.

As far as where this game falls in terms of quality compared to the rest of the series I think this just might be the best one. I'll admit, I missed some of the features that Ultimate Ghosts n Goblins had. Double jump and the ability to run (running is now a limited time magic ability) seem to be absent from this version as well as some of the magic enhancements that were in the previous installment. But if I'm being honest, Ultimate Ghosts n Goblins was a pretty easy game. It still required trial and error but not as much by far.

Difficulty aside though I think Ultimate Ghosts n Goblins still has the edge in terms of music and some graphical effects. It was always a great pleasure when beating a boss to see the door to the next stage crack open and light would start pouring in from the opening. And the final stage music was my favorite track in that entire game. Still, Ghosts n Goblins Resurrection's music is great in its own way and the hand drawn characters definitely surpass Ultimate Ghosts n Goblins in pretty much every instance.

So I'd give this game a very high 8 in terms of score, probably 8.8 or something like that. 9's and 10's are so hard to give. If the music had surpassed Ultimate Ghosts n Goblins in every way then I think I would've given it a 9. And if the previous games in the series were unlockable then no doubt I would have given it a 10. If you're a hardcore fan of the series then you just have to get this game and I would imagine you already have and will never see this review, ha ha ha. Fantastic game.

There are a number of things you should be aware of before you buy though:
    1. This game is really hard on every setting except the easiest! Anyone can comfortably complete the game on this setting, but I'm not sure I have the patience to be bothered trying to finish it on any other difficulty level.
    2. This game does borrow heavily on previous G&G IP and assets. This is creates lots of positive nostalgia, but it would have been nice to see a bit more new original content introduced through this title.
    3. I have now finished the game twice (on easy) and I've spent a few hours trying to complete levels on the harder difficulty levels. The boss battles become frustrating after the 20th failed attempt, and so honesty I'll probably only give this one more playthrough (on easy) before moving on to my next game.
    4. In my opinion this game is very overpriced for what it is. I bought this on sale for half price, and that seems about right for the play I will get out of this.

Easily the worst game I've played this year. Bought on nintendo switch store, can't even refund. Game is just some stupid bullet hell game with platforming. Nothing about any of it is enjoyable. Bosses aren't challenging and rewarding, enemies spawn with paths you have to anticipate before they spawn else you're too slow and attacks are too constricted to attack back. You progress through the game because of rote memorization of where mobs spawn and progress from check point to check point little by little because you have to memorize where every enemy is because it spawns and it's literally going to hit you if you do nothing. You spend so much time memorizing enemies and dodging their lame attacks that you just stop having fun and start playing the worst version of a bullet hell game.

The platforming is absolutely awful, like terraria except less forgiving. Jumping from platform to platform with guys that fly by through the screen so they can knock you off and force you to start all the way over. even on the easiest diffficulty I got stuck on this one section for 20 minutes because I just didn't care to hyper-memorize everything because it wasn't fun.

I DO love the audiovisual presentation of the game and its customizable fairy abilities. And I DO love that we got a new GnG installment after all this time. But I believe that this games full potential is being held back by frequent trial & error elements, as well as heavy RNG dependency. Especially on Legend difficulty, RNG can seriously screw you over. I have completed the first 5 levels on Legend currently, and dying because a bat materializes from nowhere at the location where you are currently jumping towards i.e. gets old rather quickly.

5 seconds in and i could tell i was back at home. The music, the clunky running, the way the monsters move, its all there. This isn't the one with the horrible double jump from snes. This captures the feel of the original, the nes, the genesis versions. I am pumped to play more. I recommend playing on the easiest setting on your first playthrough.

What a hard game! I can only beat this in the lowest difficulty. Maybe it’s a good idea to remake some classic NES game with an extra easy difficulty setting.

I love old retro and retro styled games but an egregious amount of randomness (enemy spawns, boss patterns, platform movement etc.) seriously holds this game back from being a better end product, while also disparaging the player's achievements.

Clunky and unintuitive, this game's movement almost always finds a way to disappoint. The aesthetic looks like a cheap mobile game and the animations look silly as well. The sound design also isn't perfect; many sound effects don't align with this series at all (neither does the aforementioned aesthetic of the game). The Knight difficulty is much more enjoyable than Legend difficulty but after playing both for long periods of time, most of the game's issues are palpable on any difficulty. The weapons are miserably balanced but of course a fan of this series would expect as much. On the bright side, the magic system seems kind of neat. I'd like to experiment with it a bit more.

I'll try out 2 player mode with a friend to see if it's more fun than single player, but at this point I'm just disappointed overall. This game doesn't completely lack merits, but to be honest if i could refund the game I would. $30 is a tad too much, maybe wait until it goes on sale.

"I went into Ghosts n’ Goblins Resurrection being cautiously optimistic, and thankfully Capcom delivered… for the most part. The game is an absolute joy to play, and they handled the reboot excellently. Extra game modes, like in Mega Man 11, and some extra levels would have been appreciated considering the high price point; however, I know I will be replaying this for years to come. The new additions to the series has made Resurrection my favourite title in the series. I just hope we don’t have to wait quite as long for the next title."

With its limited controls, sluggish protagonist, unnecessary, frustrating deaths, and overall tendency to cling to the past too much, Ghosts ‘N Goblins Resurrection is a game either for masochists or die-hard fans of the franchise. There are plenty of platformers out there that are much better at bringing the old-school look and feel into present day. [05/2021, p.36]

It takes some great steps in the right direction in terms of modernizing this series – but it doesn't quite stick the landing. [Issue #52 – May/June 2021, p. 22]

Ghosts ‘N Goblins Resurrection is a wonderful re-imagining of the brutally difficult iconic series. Featuring incredible hand-drawn animation and multiple difficulty levels to ensure that players of all skill levels can complete the game, this release will win over both old fans of the series as well as new players eager for a challenge.
