the reviewer below saying the frame rate drops below 20-30fps is lying as far as im concerned, ive not seen that and neither has any other reviewer shown that to be the case so far.

A really fun game to play on the go,
    However,

    Cons:
    -Too much motion blurr
    -Bad Port
    -Glitches
-Bad sound quality compare to other platforms
    -Drops under 30-20 fps

    Pros:
-Bosses are challenging and each one can be approched how you want.
-Each of your abilities allows you to play how you want (exemple range/melee)
-Game is not repetitive but you will die and restart over.

It really tries hard to be an action hack and slash game in the style of capcom, but the designers don't actually understand what makes the Capcom hash and slashes actually good. They added the part where you need skill to play, but forgot to include the part where you actually WANT to play.

The controls are floaty as **** and don't feel good. Enemy animations are really stupidly unclear. For example, look at DMC3 Cerebus. Cerebus paws draw back for horizontal swipe, raise vertically before vertical smash. Cerebus dog head shakes and sits back before launching forward, and roars before ice comes down. This makes visual sense. For a player that hasn't seem something before, the animations here have so few keyframes that the only way to know what to do is if you've seen that attack before. In which case the animation and art is LITERALLY not doing its job.

Another key problem with this game is the fundamental misunderstanding of design here with regards to flow. A lot of the time there's choice for how to deal with every attack. Eg. in DMC3 there's a safe approach, a less safe action, and super just-frame action using some bit of some move that lets you do more damage, for EVERY single move. Here what the designers did is like a scissors paper rock approach. Boss does thing, the ONLY thing you can do is this. Boss does this, here's my exact counter. Boss does this, the ONLY thing I can do is this. There's very very little choice. This is like an open world game where the open world is just one linear tunnel, like a narrative choice game with only 1 choice, like an RPG game with only 1 linear skill tree. The whole POINT of these games is so you have a whole kit of choices to deal with each attack.

If the designer is reading this review, run this algorithm over your entire game:
For i = every boss in this game:
For j = every attack the boss can possibly do:
For k = every button on the gamepad
If you can't use button K to effectively deal with action j of boss i:
Add a possibility for button K to effectively deal with action j of boss i to the game

I love this game but I do recommend playing it on PC for stable 60 FPS.
I bought it on Switch for the replay value after playing it on PC and I play only on handheld mode.
It does have frequent FPS drops below 60, most of them don't drop below 30, but some do (final boss has noticeable moments) so be aware of that. Sound quality seems on par with PC version so IDK what the other

In my opinion the FPS drops don't ruin the game but you will probably notice them and they may throw you off at rare times. That's why I'm giving it a 7 instead of 8-9.

I would be going in a certain direction, and then "poof" my commands were dropped. I used a variety of controllers, so it wasn't my joycon. If you want a hard game that makes you persevere, then play any of the Fromsoft games. Dark Souls 1 had some artificial difficulty but this game is on another level. It never feels consistent. I tried this game after my brother bought and finished it, at the beginning I found it fun, but at the third boss it start getting more and more like a bullet hell rather than a 1v1 boss rush, and I dropped it, overall not an enjoyable experience.

But then there are also weird design decisions. For example you have to literally play a walking simulator between boss fights which is very boring and unskippable. It's mostly there to provide some downtime and present the story. But the story is just meh in my opinion.
Another issue for me was the "easy mode" of the game. Furi is a very hard game, which is perfectly fine. However this means that a number of players will need to play the easy mode to complete the game. And quite frankly the easy mode sucks. They basically just made the game easier by cutting out large parts of content and giving you a bunch of extra lives. The result just feels terrible to play. I'd much rather have seen an easy mode where maybe the enemies were a little slower so you have more time to react.
And last but not least the performance of the game is great in handheld mode but not so much in TV mode. I could really see the framerate drop once the screen got more busy.
All in all Furi is a good game that lacks a little bit of polish.
If they fixed the easy mode and performance issues and made the walking simulator parts skippable it would propably be a 9/10.
I should also note that the game is rather short (anywhere between 1 and 7 hours depending on your skill level). But that's ok in my opinion since the game is cheap and has a lot of replay value

Furi does things that only independent games can afford. It has a very focused, suffocatingly narrow structure: like in a modern version of Punch Out!!, you either beat the next challenger, or you're stuck. It sports exceptionally good electronic music and a surprisingly well-written, well-acted script that pushes you forward just to see what happens next. Above all, Furi is hard. If you don't consider yourself a hardcore gamer, or if you have low tolerance for frustration, then stay away from this title. You could play it at the lowest difficulty level, but then what's the point? Some very good gamers apparently complete Furi in a matter of hours, but it took me a very long time, sometimes replaying the same battle dozens of times, before I could get the "good" ending.

Overall, Furi is a love-it-or-hate-it game. It might not be everybody's cup of tea, but we should all be glad it exists. It focuses on combat that sometimes doesn't flow as well as it should, but you've got to admire how it stands for its central idea. Furi is definitely a niche game, but if you happen to be in that niche, it might become one of your favourites.

This game has good music, but that's about as far as I'll go for this game. A lot of boss fights are just boiled down to tedious repetitive actions that take far too long to complete. Should you fail one of those sequences, then it's back to doing it from the start.

I want to badly run it to the end, but when I pick this game up again, I am reminded of why I put it down in the first place.

When it comes to the visual style of this game, it really is like no other i’ve seen. The textures feel simplistic while still feeling detailed, the lack of outlines with each model makes each element blend into each other. The choices in color with each location having a unique aesthetic, it makes the game a joy to look at for the entire playthrough. The animations of the characters have such emphasis and style, making every action feel impactful. The special attacks you can pull off on each boss giving you a little cutscene each time feels satisfying to pull off, and is a rewarding spectacle for your hard work. Everything about this game is oozing with charm, the style is unique and the animations are stunning. The only problem I have with the animations are the times where things clip or glitch due to the physics. There are quite a few times this happens, especially with the main character’s hair, but it’s not so distracting as to take away from the experience. Considering this game was made by a small team that had only made mobile games before this, I believe this minor flaw is passable, especially with how much good is going on. The game has its own personality that separates it from anything else i've seen. That personality is emphasised with the incredible soundtrack. The soundtrack feels like it came straight off an 80s synthwave album. This 80s aesthetic seems to be a huge influence for the game itself, and with each boss having their own music, added to the already existing unique aesthetic each of them possess, it makes every fight memorable and significant. The music pushes and urges you on to keep fighting, keep trying, just one more time, to beat that one last boss, and come out on top.

    Gameplay

The gameplay as described by wikipedia states, “Furi is a fast-paced action game with hack and slash, twin-stick shoot 'em up, and "bullet hell" elements, consisting entirely of boss fights. Gameplay consists mostly of dodging bullets, parrying attacks, attacking the bosses by melee or shooting, and quick time events.” So what that basically boils down to is an action packed, tough as nails, boss rush game, that mashes several genres of gameplay into one coherent masterpiece. It takes elements from classic games such as Asteroids with dodging projectiles being flung at you while taking out targets that surround you, mixed with a hack and slash combat that i can best describe as a watered down version of dark souls, with dodging, parrying, and charging your attacks to deal devastating blows. The combat is fun and engaging, and each boss feels like a new challenge. After each boss fight you get a bit of a breather, going through landscapes in these walking sections. While these can be boring, they are entirely welcome after a long fight, and with the addition of the speedrun mode, you don't have to deal with them in subsequent playthroughs. The game is perfect in it’s pacing. Each fight gets harder and harder, your skills increase exponentially by the end, to where the first bosses go from a devilish nightmare to being an absolute breeze. The controls are tight, which is essential because the game requires extreme precision and timing. The game can be excruciating difficult, but it is always fair, and always rewarding. You get better at the game as you progress and before the credits roll you are able to overcome almost anything the game throws at you.

    Story

The story of Furi is a simple one. You play as the stranger. Trapped in a prison amongst the stars. Each layer of this prison was meticulously crafted and defended by some sort of guardian. Whether that be another prisoner, a wise old man, a noble warrior, a tech obsessed sniper, or another of the many more wild personalities. Each boss has a title, “the” something. There are 11 total enemies to face, with an additional hidden boss, for those who really want a challenge. You, as the stranger, escape the prison. Led by a man in a rabbit costume known as The Voice. He guides you through your journey, and he is the only voice heard outside of the bosses. He replaces your own character’s thoughts, giving context and an outlook on the situation you find yourself in. By the end of the story, there’s more revealed about his character, that isn’t seen on a surface level. As well as the stranger, he finds out why he was locked up, who did it, and why, but nothing is out right explained. The story tells itself in a subtle way, leading up to a climactic closing with a choice of an ending. Each character is beaming with personality, the story isn’t too amazing, but services the game well, and is intriguing and coherent the whole way through.

I picked up Furi on sale for like $7 and it's one of the best game purchases I've ever made. Went and bought the dlc, also on sale currently, before I was even halfway through the game because I knew I was gonna want more by the end. If you're a fan of the tight, reflex based combat like in Sekiro or Hollow Knight, or their boss rush modes, Furi is absolutely for you. It's a sword slashing, dashing, parrying, bullet-fest of a game where you fight a series of unique, well designed bosses, each one requiring a level of speed, strategy, and precision you rarely see even in games with the tightest of combat mechanics. If everything else about the game sucked it would still be worth playing for the incredible combat alone.

Thankfully that's not the case, although the graphics are admittedly not the best (I'm guessing due to budget constraints.) But the scenery, character design, soundtrack, voice acting, and the opaque but intriguing narrative that's pieced together walking the paths between each boss's domain, all beautifully embellish the amazing core gameplay. There's a heavyily psychedelic atmosphere that blends and contrasts wonderfully with the brutality of the fights that you undertake on this journey.

I'm somewhere around 20-30 hours in, I got stuck on one boss and decided to start again with the DLC character I had purchased, who possesses a few different skills/mechanics, but I still have not completed the game yet and expect to spend *at least* another 10 hours on the last 2-3 bosses. If you excel at this type of reflex based combat then I think it'd be possible to complete a single playthrough in an evening or two, but for most players there will be at least a couple bosses you struggle on so playtimes could vary greatly. But for those Dark Souls veterans out there who can finish it in one go, there is a "hard" difficulty (in quotes because the default setting is already pretty intense in my opinion lol) as well as a Speedrun mode which tracks time, number of hits/deaths, etc. for added replayability. There are also settings to lessen the difficulty a bit, even one for outright invincibility, for those who want to soften the blow a bit. Overall Furi does exactly what it set out to do, and in a brilliantly executed fashion. The bosses are difficult but never feal cheap, and every time you beat a boss's phase you refill your health and gain one of your three lives back if you've lost any, making every attempt feel worth completing. As someone who loves fast paced swordfighting games, this is easily a 9/10 for me, and the only reason it's not a perfect 10 is due to the slight "cheapness" of the graphics, but like I said, the game more than makes up for it in literally every other area. I love this game and I'm incredibly excited to see what these devs will do next.

Furi is a great mix of hack and slash with a bullet hell. Where the game performs really great on the action level, the game misses the mark when things get quiet. Still it is a very enjoyable game, but it has its flaws.
