Let's make it clear: Fire Emblem Warriors is an average musou, if not slightly better.

For better or worse, Fire Emblem Warriors is another Musou game that only distinguishes itself by the addition of many elements from the FE series that surprisingly adapt really good to the concept of the genre. Fans of the franchise would be delighted with it; those that aren't, not so much.

This is the fifth musou game we received this year (after Berserk, Dragon Quest Heroes II, Warriors All Stars and Samurai Warriors Spirit of Sanada) and still we enjoyed its massive combat and RPG elements. Technical elements fall short compared to most Switch games.

While it does gets tiresome in the later stages, Fire Emblem Warriors excellently blends frantic hack-and-slash with deep strategic role-playing to deliver a package that fans of both series are certain to love.

Even as it lacks the same tactical depth and storytelling nuance, in its collaborative combat and earnest heroics, it captures the spirit of Fire Emblem really rather well. [Christmas 2017, p.120]

Although it won't go down as an especially memorable title, there's a lot of fun to be had with Fire Emblem Warriors. The interesting usage of all the aspects from the tactical RPG series certainly added to some freshness to the standard Musou formula, and it was great to see a lot of the characters given the high-definition treatment and the interactions between them are sure to please a lot of fans.

Fire Emblem Warriors exceeded the expectations of fans and newcomers alike. The intense battles are a balanced combination of satisfying attacks and careful direction of your allies to take down generals. Strategy is key, making it impossible to take your eyes away even for a second.

Fire Emblem Warriors absolutely makes good on its combination of strategy and action, working better than many other licenses that have adopted the Warriors format. While it's definitely rough in spots, it does manage to capture a lot of the Fire Emblem spirit. If Nintendo keeps mixing its properties with the Warriors style, hopefully those games will learn a lot from this experiment.

It’s a terrific crossover for those who’ve enjoyed the modern releases, but much less so for fans who might have been hoping to be reacquainted or properly introduced to the old heroes of yore.

It plays as a great mix of both, though lacking some of the tactical strategy of a Fire Emblem title. Warriors is a strong addition to the Nintendo Switch’s library of action games, though it suffers a few technical issues in handheld mode. The thick of a battle can be frantic and stressful on the player and the console, but never too much to ruin an exciting, fast-paced experience.

Fire Emblem Warriors tries to blend together two distinct franchises, and it almost manages to pull it off.

Despite making the most sense out of all Warriors crossovers so far, Fire Emblem Warriors hasn't quite lived up to its potential after the content-heavy Hyrule Warriors. Some questionable character omissions and a lack of modes, as well as an extremely subpar core narrative, is offset by relying on past scenarios in the History Mode. Fans of both sets of franchises will surely get good enjoyment out of this, though, as the strategic elements of Nintendo's long-running series meshes perfectly with the real-time combat of Koei Tecmo's property, creating one of the best Warriors entries, whereas it falls short of expectations as a spinoff of the RPG series.

Fire Emblem Warriors is a great successor to Hyrule Warriors and adds some very intuitive additions. The lack of variation with the lead characters in the cast reduces some enjoyment though.

Fire Emblem Warriors fits the original series well and features an immense amount of content, as well as a wide number of characters to choose from and an exquisite soundtrack. What it features in quantity, however, does not exactly match its quality and some variety in this aspect would be more appreciated but nevertheless, this is a very good take on the musou genre and one that is loyal to the legacy of the Fire Emblem series.

If you take away all the things that Fire Emblem Warriors does wrong, you end up with a hack and slash game where you wipe out hundreds of bad guys every few minutes. There are impressive special moves, and seeing your favourite Fire Emblem characters come to life on the battlefield is impressive. The thing is, it’s just not doing anything you haven’t seen before. Fire Emblem Warriors could’ve kept the current look and feel, and trusted itself to tell a whole new story while introducing a slew of lovable new characters. Instead it ends up relying on retelling stories from previous titles, with none of the love and care they were originally given.

With the power to pick up the Switch tablet and storm through History on the go, Fire Emblem Warriors is still going to get some play in my house despite its issues. It follows a set formula with very little in the way of risk-taking, but so long as you can stomach the idea of warring kingdoms with very little at stake other than your level-up bar, it'll probably delight you too. With some DLC meat on these bones it'll likely be a long, wild ride.

Turning Fire Emblem series into a Warriors game should’ve been an ordinary task for Omega Force’s – after all, they’ve done it time and again with other franchises, and more often than not it ended up being a fun fan-servicey game. But Fire Emblem Warriors is nothing short of a fiasco. [Issue#226, p.61]

While the Dynasty Warriors style of gameplay appropriately sits front and center in Fire Emblem Warriors, the lack of genre melding with an RPG is disappointing. Players will enter into each battle with plenty of chances to smash buttons and oggle at Fire Emblem characters destroying one another, but the heart of the tactical RPG franchise doesn’t make a proper appearance. Too bad, too, because this might have been a wasted opportunity to really experiment with the musou genre.

Fire Emblem Warriors doesn’t radically change the formula of the two-decade-old Warriors franchise, nor is it concerned with attempting to do so. At best, it's a decent vehicle for Fire Emblem's characters, a chance to flex their muscles in a new venue without the limitations of turn-based combat holding their abilities back.

Fire Emblem Warriors is a sub-par game even by Musou standards brought further down by a one-note story and it's greatest sin, it's lackluster roster; holding beloved characters such as Ike, Roy, and Hector hostage behind the possibility of a sequel and choosing to go for waifu bait instead, resulting in a slew of cloned characters and a harsh lack of good movesets.

Truly a wonderful concept, brought down by incompetent direction
