A beautiful game with a charming story, just the game play is dull and at most times lackluster.

Fe is a small indie game from the developer Zoink with its very own charm. At first I was very impressed by the graphic style, so I bought it directly. At first I was very impressed by the graphic style, so I bought it directly. But it seemed a bit deceptive: Fe was really fun on the one hand - but it had far too many mistakes. I would very much like to give Fe a better score, because I find this graphic style so sweet and I like the game principle itself also very much. But because of the many mistakes I only decided for 6/10 points.

Graphic: First of all, I would like to discuss Fe's graphics. The graphic is really wonderful and very sweet. It is a very special graphic style, but also a beautiful one. Just because of such a wonderful and unique graphic style you should definitely have a look at the game. Fans of artistically influenced games will definitely find their joy here.

Story: The story of Fe is actually very simple. That's exactly why I don't want to anticipate much here. But what's very interesting is that Fe tells a story without text. Scenes are shown, which makes you create your own story in your head. Believe me: You will understand everything without text! And that's exactly why I like Fe. You explore different ecosystems throughout the story, which makes Fe seem dynamic. And every "department" in the world of Fe will look different.

Gameplay: Now to the most important point - gameplay. And this is also the main reason for my average rating. Since the Fe works mostly without text, you have to find out many gameplay mechanics by yourself. This makes it difficult to get into the indie adventure. Since Fe likes to work with elevations in the worlds you often fall down because of the mostly bad camera. In this case there is no "restart" and you have to run everything - really EVERYTHING - back yourself. If something like this happens more often, it's very frustrating and takes a lot of fun. Furthermore, as already mentioned, the camera perspective is often bad. It's often very confusing where I have to go from here.
A positive gameplay point, would be to communicate with other animal species by singing. This was done by learning the different languages in a very fun and cute way.

Conclusion: I definitely had my fun with Fe. I liked the very special and sweet graphic style very much. But the mistakes were very annoying, so I had to deduct some points. If you like to experience a graphical miracle for little money, you should have a look at Fe. But you shouldn't expect great gameplay - because Fe doesn't have that. The gameplay is "ok", but nothing more.

Fe is a 5 and a half hour long open world 3d platformer with a dash of collectathon elements where you play as an adorable fox like animal out to save the forest from these not so adorable glowing eye jerks that are trapping your animal friends..
You’re sent to one section of the map at a time to complete a task to unlock a new song to sing...
As singing is how you interact with the world...
to learn a new language you have to help out the adult version of a certain animal...
Youre able to sync up with the baby versions freely though, and they’ll help you through the worlds until you learn their language
Learning a language can mean anthing from gathering stolen eggs, or freeing a giant deer and then climbing them shadow of the colossus style…
these first 2 languages were the most clever and I feel as though the game quickly runs out of ideas for the remainder of the game..
As the charm going forward is almost completely gone...
these new languages will help you of course progress further into the game, but will also help you reach new areas for crystals that you can use to upgrade your abilities to make traversing this world just a little bit more easy…
but traversing is just never fun...
the platforming feels clunky aside from the snappy and satisfying tree climbing, youll be falling to the bottom of areas numerous times just to have to restart your climb especially once gliding is involved
And interacting with the world feels more like busy work than actual interaction..
Constant language changing with your wheel while you’re trying to figure out the right path to the marker on the map...
The platforming isn’t awful though... its very passible, but the lack of polish is noticeable...
Thankfully the beauty and the charm of this world makes up for all of this...
the interactions with the different animals are adorable…
the colors, the feel, and the music help immerse you into this world…
Enemy encounters here are terrifying and are spread perfectly as well keeping this game perfectly paced…
I never felt the game overstayed its welcome...
Though the ending is definitely a head scratcher mostly because of how anti-climactic it ends up feeling and how lousy of a job the game does at making you care about its story ...
The game just feels as though it ends abruptly and I felt no feeling of accomplishment
    I didn’t necessarily want more
it was just like… um okay?
But dispite my complaints I still enjoyed getting there...
I appreciate the giant puzzle this game ends up being…
the gameplay is constantly being changed, keeping the game fresh and engaging from start to finish...
You’re never just going through the motions…
youre always thinking and planning routes in your heads
unfortunately though there just isn’t anything memorable here…
    It has the potential...
The opening 2 levels showed promise…
The game just drops the ball and forgets the great halfway through
    I give Fe
    a 6.5/10

A very pretty game that’s marred by poor gameplay design. A promising opening quickly leaves the player walking in circles, floundering in a web of pictograms, dead ends, and vague puzzles. It's almost a good game, but the tutorialisation is MIA, and it was a real slog to get to the end.

While beautiful, most of the scenery does blend in with itself and it's easy to get turned around and lost. It does give you the benefit of being guided by helpful birds, but they don't always lead you down the path, rather going towards the objective and leaving you wondering how you wondering how you're supposed to get there. Extremely seasoned long time gamer here. Played this game for 30 seconds before I found myself fighting the games camera auto-turning. No option in settings to turn it off. Uninstalled. All the best 3D platformers like the Mario games, Blue Fire, Zelda etc, have camera's that you can turn with the right thumbstick, inwhich the camera doesn't move on it's own to follow your character. Despite being one-note on a gameplay level, Fe's world, with its lush environments and wistful score, compels you to explore. Establishing fleeting connections with the creatures around you is both charming and a little sad, and learning the truth about the enemy machines is even more tragic. By the end, the most important thing you've learned is how to connect with nature, not just by singing with animals but by understanding the world around you.

It doesn't matter how clever or interesting your idea is, or how stunning and vibrant your game looks when it's just no fun to play. Perseverance with Fe could ultimately yield some satisfaction but for me it was just too boring.
