Fatum Betula finds virtue in the 32-bit generation. It is impossible to return to the ethos that powered games from a quarter century ago, but Fatum Betula captures their spirit and respects their integrity. The wild sense of experimentation, the natural invitation to curiosity, and the harsh beauty imposed by technical limitations shine through every austere texture and restrained polygon.

It’s an experimental game that uses its PS1 aesthetic to drive home the surreal atmosphere of this world, and it’s easy to get lost in that atmosphere as you explore and experiment in search of different endings. It’s just a shame that the mystery runs out of steam so much sooner than the game itself does, dulling the impact with each new outing and robbing the “true” ending of much of its potential.

Absolutely amazing and atmospheric. Perfectly captures the wonder and mystique of retro PS1 and N64 games.

This game enthralls the player into a dreamlike world of discovery. This game captures an entertaining feeling of uneasiness and curiousty that will cause most player to try to unearth as many secrets as they can. The graphical style of this game lends well to the atmosphere and lends far better to the imagination than realistic graphics would. The gameplay was simple, part of the fun of this game is figuring out what you can and can't do and how certian items you pick up will interact with other things around you. Every mechanic felt natural and led to a sense of pride when figuring something out. This game has at least 5 different ending meaning theres not just one way to play or think when trying to get to the end but with 5 different endings there's a lot of replay value. Overall this game was very refreshing and unique and 100% worth it's very fair price! Expand

You manage liquids as a unique resource driven puzzle system.

Concise and memorable, it is an excellent addition to the niche. My only gripe is for the Switch itself, you'll have to crank the brightness to see things. It blunts the atmosphere just slightly.

Some of the endings can be particular tough to find, but it is well worth sticking with the game and looking for them It’s a charming budget game, and I’m extremely glad that I discovered it. It’s on sale for only a few euros at the time of writing, so go and jump into the madness for yourself!"

This is a good game! Plenty of secrets to be found, and plenty of ways to kill the raccoon.

The game world of Fatum Betula is tiny. There are only a handful of locations, characters and items to interact with. The music is cool and the in-game atmosphere is suitably off-putting, but ultimately there is a limit to the amount of time I am prepared to basically just walk around a static, low-res world doing nothing particularly exciting in the hopes of unlocking strange endings. I like the fact that indie developers are prepared to try new things like this, I just didn't happen to enjoy my experience playing through this one. Expand
