Fast RMX may not be the perfect anti-gravity racing package, but it certainly offers high-speed racing and a lot of tracks to challenge yourself on. It’s a shame that the online multiplayer offering is so barebones, and that the time trial mode is currently AWOL, but in lieu of an official Wipeout or F-Zero this is a solid option to get your arcade racing fix on the Nintendo Switch.

Anyone who enjoys racing games and owns a Switch does not have many options for games right now beyond FAST RMX. Fortunately, it should provide players with at least a dozen hours of gameplay as they work their way from the novice cups to more advanced races. Online and local multiplayer also adds some additional fun into the mix. There’s not much else to the experience, however, and some may wish that the game were a more “pure” arcade racer rather than one with additional gameplay aspects layered on top of simply racing super fast.

In many ways Fast RMX is exactly what it is supposed to be: A lightning-paced racer with a phenomenal sense of speed and pleasingly technofuturistic aesthetics that scratches that F-Zero itch in a way very few games have managed over the last fifteen years.

Fast RMX isn’t as polished as the games it’s trying hard to emulate, but certainly isn’t a wash. It’s fast, looks excellent, and offers a great variety of tracks. The racing is fun, even if some of the track design is less than stellar. If the online multiplayer gets patched with more customization options, this will also make an excellent addition to the Switch’s scarce multiplayer options.

Fast RMX is practically a must buy, but it’s a purist take on the genre and damn difficult without many, if any of the bells and whistles of other racers. That said, if you’re looking to scratch a certain F-Zero or Wipeout itch on Switch it’s absolutely worth a look.

It may still be an off-brand F-Zero, but this is closer than ever to the real thing, and with some impressive graphical and multiplayer options.

It may need some more polish in its modes to race with the big leagues, but Fast RMX is a great title with challenging difficulty and beautiful locales that are matched with its nose-bleeding sense of speed and arcade-inspired mechanics.

Fast RMX is one of the best Switch titles out right now. Given how Shin’en is supporting the game with free updates, with the first adding time trials, it’s a great time to pick it up and play this $20 game.

Well-made and affordably priced, it’s the second best thing to play on your brand-new Zelda machine.

Too many factors outside of your control, default control scheme is terrible, camera Fx are a little over the top, the boosting mechanic really reduces the game to a game of turbo management, and that is really boring. Cars are way too slidey, bumping into the edge is too bouncey, bumping into other cars mechanic is freaking dumb and also boring. Strafing is WAY too slidey and hard to control.

By far the worst is the track design. There's just no way to know what's coming up; there is no reactionary play possible whatsoever. Doing any action at any stage without memorising the next stage of the level blindfolded is instant crash and/or lose. Boost at wrong time, make the wrong turn, not remembering where boost orbs are, forgetting where one single the coloured boosts is ...etc is instant lose / crash. The visuals go by way too fast with no telegraphing whatsoever + **** camera code = the only way to remotely get good at the game is to memorise the level completely (which I did, and it worked!). That is boring, that is not a good racing game.

It's really hard to even find a good control config, with having to switch + accel. Why isn't accelerate "up" down "down" on the dpad / stick?? Why can't I *bind* it to up and down on dpad / stick? IF I can bind accelerate to up, then I can leave the thumb for boost / switch and LR for strafe. Too bad I can't do that! Why does motion control bind to TURN? That's freaking useless! I want motion control to *strafe* so I can *turn* with my stick without using shoulders!

Visuals are good, runs smooth and sound / music is good. They should have actually playtested their game before shipping it.
