Jul 23, 2020Playing Edna & Harvey: The Breakout – Anniversary Edition is akin to playing the unspoken stepchild of Matt Groening, Seth MacFarlane and LucasArts. The two main characters, Edna and Harvey, are witty, offbeat and humorous. These are probably two of the most memorable adventure game characters since Sam & Max Hit the Road! While the controls take a bit to get used to without a cursor or touch support the offbeat humour and solutions are memorable. If you're looking to relive some of those classic adventure game years look no further than this Anniversary Edition!

Jul 2, 2020While adjusting to the controls takes longer than it should, it’s mostly worth it. Edna & Harvey: The Breakout – Anniversary Edition shines with more to like than loathe. Particularly the overabundance of dialogue, which is accomplished and comical. I’m glad I stuck with this game. As a genre enthusiast, I found it to be entertaining.

Feb 11, 2021Taking a PC Classic and reintroducing it for a new audience with a fresh lick of paint, Edna & Harvey: The Breakout takes the basic concept of escaping an asylum and runs with it, offering vast amounts of interaction, backed with great writing and voice-acting. The Switch's Touchscreen feels unusually neglected here, and logical issues relative to the genre are sadly present later in the game, but aside from that, this is one liberation that is worth carrying out.

Jun 18, 2020I have a nostalgic fondness of the original game, and Edna & Harvey: The Breakout - Anniversary Edition did not let me down. It's a smart and funny adventure with a unique tone of voice. The anniversary edition is truly the best version of the game, but it doesn't smooth out every gripe that I had with the original, all while introducing a few new headaches in terms of controls on the Switch. If you don't mind that, Edna & Harvey: The Breakout - Anniversary Edition is a fun adventure that will thoroughly scratch that point-and-click (Sw)itch.

Jun 30, 2020Edna & Harvey: The Breakout – Anniversary Edition is a very competent point-and-click adventure to play if you like some laughs alongside frustration. The quirky characters are the best part of this game and the voice acting is superb and helps with immersion. While some of the sound effects and ambient noise leave much to be desired, the voice acting makes playing this game with volume essential. The Breakout has jokes in dialogue that lead me to believe the game is made for adults, including Easter eggs from Futurama, Simpsons, etc. Edna’s perspective on life, however, seems like it’s made for a younger audience, but I’m not sure that the point-and-click genre is popular with kids these days.

Jun 18, 2020Nearly a decade after its release, the first episode of the Edna & Harvey duology crops up again, this time on all game consoles. On this occasion, the inventory has been redesigned, along with all the visuals and characters of the game. The experience remains the same though : a likable but slow-paced Point and Click.

Jun 18, 2020When your jokes consist of punching down on those with mental health challenges, you’ve run out of actual comedy. There’s a way to handle this content with tact and dignity, while still being funny, but it requires a level of self-awareness that this game is far from having. Edna & Harvey: The Breakout is a game that was stuck in the past when it was originally released, but its issues are highlighted ten-fold with its console release. Paired with the gameplay headaches and accessibility issues this just isn’t a game I can recommend playing.

Sep 23, 2022Very nice story, at the beginning a bit slow paced. I like the art style and the protagonists.
