You all are crazy. This looks awful. Yes, I get it. It's "so amazing" that doom eternal is on switch. But, just because you can, doesn't mean you should. This entire game is an excercise in what kind of resolutions are acceptable. I can't express enough how utterly blurry this game is, and I'm honestly not sure if I've ever played a game where it is THIS hard to make out critical objectsYou all are crazy. This looks awful. I can't express enough how utterly blurry this game is, and I'm honestly not sure if I've ever played a game where it is THIS hard to make out critical objects on screen, be enemies platforms, or anything really. While playing the game on TV mode is unpleasant, showcasing the incredible lengths panic button went to cut down the visuals to make this game run, it's still playable for the most part. Handheld mode, though, is a completely different different story. I've heard reports that resultions in handheld can get down to 360p and let me tell you that happens a lot, and it doesn't even always happen during intense gameplay. And this isn't your grandpa's 360p on his Nintendo 64 back in the day, with simple geometry and bright colors. This is so much worse. Not only is the resolution low, but all of the blurring, antialiasing and other filters panic button has applied to the game render the visuals into a soupy and muddy mess. I finally understood what life must be like for my pet lizard, who apparently only sees objects well when they're in motion. Nintendo 3DS games, at 240p, are more playable and defined than Doom Eternal on switch in handheld. It's not just that it's ugly, you can't even play the game properly. While yes, its impressive the game runs at 30fps pretty solidly most of the time, what's the point when you can't even see properly?

I absolutely can't recommend this game. Not in its current state. You might scrape by if you're just playing in TV mode, but not handheld. And if the game looks this poor in handheld mode, what is even the point of owning it on the switch?

Even panic button knows how poor the game looks. The ONLY way it seems they were able get the cutscenes to even look acceptably sharp was to lock the framerate at 20fps (in handheld) and add letterboxing (so a lot of the characters in the cutscenes are cut out of frame. Lmao). But you know what? The cutscenes actually made me wish the whole game was locked to 20fps, because at least I could see what was happening on screen then. If you've been watching gameplay videos of handheld mode and thought "oh, this is just YouTube's compression, it probably looks better in real life", no, it looks worse in real life, and that isn't YouTube's compression you're looking at. That's just how the game looks.

I really respect Panic Button, and I have no doubt that they worked their asses off to even get this thing running on switch, but this is a project that should never have happened. Doom Eternal is an amazing game, but not on switch.

WAYYY too much platform jumping and monkey bar bs for a fps, let alone Doom game. Panic button did a great job with the port to switch but as far as the game plays there is too much jumping around. If you've waited this long and want it for the switch for the love of god, wait for a sale on the eshop. It's digital only which is a huge bummer since I'm stuck with it. Combat is fun when youre not trying to wall jump everywhere, and again, very impressive looking for a Switch game. Overall it's a good game but the platforming sections are frustrating and just not fun, and the full price tag blows. Expand

Absolutely needs motion blur, really really needs it. That is really my only problem with the game as of right now. Everything else is on point for a switch port. It controls well, it looks good, and for the game itself, it's fun. There's good combat and weapon variety. but the lack of motion blur is a big turn off for me. If motion blur isn't a necessity, then sure, pick it up. Its a good game but lacking what could have given it a high score. Expand

Nice graphic. Cool gameplay. But a much too high level of difficulty for me.

Atmospheric and brutal, id Software has achieved an admirable result in gracing the Switch with the gore of Doom Eternal. Prepare to be challenged. [Issue #3, p. 51]

I have no idea how Panic Button managed to cram one of the most spectacular action games into Nintendo Switch. It’s an amazing achievement, but of course it came with a price – the game runs smoothly enough at 30 fps, but looks ugly, and playing it with the Joy-Cons is a nightmare. I highly recommend using the Pro Controller, or better still, experiencing this terrific shooter on another platform. [02/2021, p.54]

Doom Eternal is decent on the Switch and is a great game overall even with its issues. If you must play this game on the Switch, then be aware of what you are getting. If you can get it on another platform, I suggest you do that.
