Jan 8, 2021Doom Eternal for Switch is a technological miracle that runs on stable framerate. To achieve this, Panic Button made several compromises and sacrificed a goat to the technology gods, but we are now able to Rip and Tear on a toilet seat!
-
Dec 21, 2020The violent and gory world of Doom Eternal is just amazing and playing as the Slayer makes you feel powerful when faced up against terrifying Demons. Being able to play under my comfy blanket made me feel immersed in the world, something that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions wouldn’t be able to make me feel. Usually, Nintendo Switch versions of games feel like lesser versions of games released on other consoles, but id Software did an amazing job at making Doom Eternal on the Switch feel just as good. If you’re a longtime Doom fan looking to give it a try on the Nintendo Switch I highly doubt that you’ll be disappointed and I would also highly recommend giving Doom Eternal a shot even if you’ve never played any other game in the series, because you are missing out if you haven’t.
-
Dec 20, 2020DOOM Eternal is a title that once again improves its genre. It is a masterful game. Although at the graphical and performance level the Switch version stands out less, its gameplay is practically identical. In addition, we can enjoy this authentic wonder anywhere.
-
Dec 17, 2020To put it mildly, DOOM Eternal is the most impressive first-person shooter ever made to run natively on a handheld system. Not only is it a phenomenal game in its own right that ticks all the boxes of how a sequel should be made, but it’s also a technical marvel of a port conjured up by incredibly skilled magicians. The delay may have been far longer than promised, but it’s crystal clear that the extra time spent in its absence has certainly been put to good use.
-
Dec 14, 2020DOOM: Eternal on Switch may not be as pretty as its PC or other console counterparts, but the trade off is well worth it for the portability and motion aiming.
-
Jan 13, 2021While DOOM Eternal is rated M for its gore and violence, there’s a lot about the gaming experience that makes it safer to play for teen and young adult audiences than the average, multiplayer competitors of its genre. And if there’s ever a day I need to just chainsaw through some demons, I know where I can turn.
-
Dec 21, 2020Doom Eternal is every bit the evolution of its predecessor that fans could have hoped for, and Panic Button has done one hell of a job porting it over to Nintendo Switch. Faster-paced combat challenges you to adapt your strategies, make meaningful decisions, and use everything in your arsenal to counter all manner of intelligent demons and their unique weaknesses. Well-designed levels break up the intense encounters with precise platforming, and at almost every corner there are rewarding upgrades and worthwhile secrets to uncover. While your enjoyment of the plot will depend on how you engage with it, and it isn't the most graphically impressive version of the game, Doom Eternal on Nintendo Switch is a worthy way to practice demon-slaying on the go.
-
Dec 16, 2020Graphical downgrades don't stop Doom Eternal from being a thoroughly entertaining shooter.
-
Dec 14, 2020This is another impossible port from the folks at Panic Button, and one of the best of all at that. Doom Eternal is simply the best shooter available for Nintendo Switch and a manual on how to shrink down one of the most intensive game of the year on a handheld console.
-
Dec 11, 2020Whether it's the first time you experience the triumphant return of the Doom Slayer, or it's an opportunity to replay a recent masterpiece in a new light, Doom Eternal on Switch is undoubtedly the highest point reached by the partnership between Bethesda, id Software, Panic Button and Nintendo.
-
Dec 10, 2020DOOM Eternal for Nintendo Switch probably stands as the best among the impossible conversions made so far by Panic Button.
-
Dec 10, 2020It's not the best version of the game, but it's the best possible port for Nintendo Switch. You'll miss the 60 fps and see the visual downgrade if you've played it on other platforms... but if that's not the case (you don't have other console or PC), or just wanna play DOOM Eternal anywhere, you'll enjoy it like on the rest of platforms.
-
Dec 16, 2020Even with a reduced resolution and half the frame rates, it's hard not to consider this port on the Nintendo Switch as a small miracle. Once again, Panic Button has proven to be able to do the impossible: recreating the experience of a triple A shooter in portable format.
-
Dec 12, 2020Doom Eternal is also an excellent game on Switch, and even if this version isn’t the best, it is a good option for those who just want to play it anywhere.
-
Jan 4, 2021Doom Eternal on the Switch is another great port from Panic Button. Graphically, it is a massive step down from the other console versions, but it makes smart concessions to ensure the gameplay shines even when played on weak hardware. It's impressive to see how solidly the title runs, even though there were quite a few obvious visual compromises. If you can stomach the high price point given that the other versions have long dropped in price, the Switch port is a solid option to play the game. I'm a huge fan of the gameplay decisions that Eternal makes to evolve the formula, and I believe Eternal is a must-have title if you're an FPS aficionado — especially if you don't have access to another game console or value portability over visual quality.
-
Dec 14, 2020Doom Eternal is the best first-person shooter on the Nintendo Switch. Whether you’ve played the game before or not, this blood-soaked port is definitely worth your time. Even though the game suffers from graphical downgrades, you’ll have a hell of a good time decapitating demons and eviscerating beasts on the go.
-
Ninty Fresh MagazineOct 23, 2021Atmospheric and brutal, id Software has achieved an admirable result in gracing the Switch with the gore of Doom Eternal. Prepare to be challenged. [Issue #3, p. 51]
-
Feb 14, 2021Doom Eternal is a sequence that dares to touch on everything from its predecessor, be it for the good or for the bad. New mechanics freshens up the gameplay and complements a much needed new art direction, level design and multiplayer. Those aspects clash with a narrative exposition that feels out of place and a new combat flow that doesn’t encourage creative strategies. The Switch versions presents incredible performance given the platforms limits but, for some, the halved framerate will not be enough for that level of action.
-
Jan 6, 2021Overall, I had a ton of fun with Doom Eternal, even if the story is borderline incomprehensible to seasoned Doom Slayers. I look forward to more installments in the franchise if this is the level of quality we continue to get. Those platforming sections are truly awful, though.
-
Jan 4, 2021DOOM Eternal feels like more of the same of the 2016/7 version previously released on Switch. It’s a bummer that it’s now eShop only, but it’s the same DOOM experience that you loved before, just with some difficulty of movement.
-
Jan 4, 2021Doom Eternal is an excellent first-person shooter. From the very first fast-paced mission, it never lets up. Developer id Software manages to create a game that feels like a blast from the past while also bringing the genre forward.
-
Jan 4, 2021Tight frantic gameplay, accompanied by a thrilling score and an awesome campaign with a tonne of upgrades and collectibles. There is plenty to be positive about with this port, as having DOOM Eternal portable and with gyro controls will please many. It is hard to not notice the downgraded textures and lower performance which set it aside from the sublime PC, Xbox and PlayStation versions, but Panic Button must be commended for putting together such an ambitious project for the Switch, one that runs incredibly competently for downgraded hardware. The price is somewhat of a sticking point given that a superior version can be purchased for much less and is also available physically, whereas the Switch is digital only. These minor issues aside DOOM Eternal is well worth the investment of both time and money and should be a welcome addition to any Nintendo Switch library.
-
Dec 21, 2020Despite the game’s undoubted quality, at this stage we’d recommend this only to those who just have a Switch available to play this on – or simply must play it on the go. If you fall into one of those camps this is still a more than serviceable way to play one of the very best titles of 2020.
-
Dec 20, 2020Recommending Doom Eternal on Nintendo Switch ultimately boils down to two factors: the Switch is the only gaming system you own, and/or you plan on playing the game near-exclusively while on-the-go. Honestly, for a Nintendo Switch title, Doom Eternal is solid. It just feels like a game that benefits from being played on a more powerful platform.
-
Dec 17, 2020DOOM Eternal is considered to be one of the best first-person shooters of this console generation. Jump into this fast-paced sequel to DOOM (2016), fight against the arbiters of Hell to save the last surviving humans. Now on the Switch, it’s a feat to behold, because Nintendo isn’t known for FPS’s. The quality may be downgraded and the controls clunky at times, but it’s definitely one of the best Switch ports I’ve ever played.
-
Dec 17, 2020Doom Eternal on Switch is yet another 'impossible port' that is successfully performed by Panic Button. Technically, compromises had to be made, but the heart of the game is still intact and beating.
-
Dec 17, 2020A good conversion that, despite a less-significant impact from a graphical point of view, keeps the same experience, flow, and fun gameplay of the original shooter made by id Software. It's yet another great example of Panic Button's ability to achieve what seemed impossible for yet another huge third-party AAA game that makes 2020 one of the best year in Nintendo Switch history.
-
Dec 15, 2020Getting Doom on a new platform is inherent to the series’ DNA as people find more oddball hardware to run the classic game on. Playing Doom on a pregnancy test is not the most optimal way to play it, but it is possible. And Doom Eternal on the Switch is similarly possible but not optimal. The Switch port is still thrilling and has an addictive combat loop with incredible pacing yet it’s inherently held back enough by the platform’s weaknesses to make it the least appealing version. It’s a novelty to rip and tear on the go, but it’s questionable how, well, novel that novelty really is. It runs Doom… sorta.
-
Dec 15, 2020As a solo experience, Doom Eternal is simultaneously better and worse than its predecessor. It makes a lot of small changes that generally work, but also speak to a misunderstanding of the original. While changes to movement via the grapple system are largely excellent and improve the already fantastic combat system, changes to progression and story presentation just slow down what had previously been an incredibly fast-paced thrill ride. When Doom Eternal gets past its secondary elements and just allows itself to be Doom, it outdoes Doom 2016 without question. Multiplayer is, however, a significant disappointment for anyone like me who greatly enjoyed the original’s implementation. All that being said, from a port perspective, Doom Eternal is a downright miracle. It somehow presents a much more complex game even better than it presented the original.
-
Dec 15, 2020Panic Button pulls off yet another outstanding port for Nintendo Switch in Doom Eternal. This version comes to Nintendo Switch with a ton of technical consessions and sometimes way too many adaptations to make it work, but in the end it stands as an overall solid and rewarding experience.
-
Dec 14, 2020DOOM Eternal is blurry but the frame rate is great on portable mode, which makes this FPS very enjoyable. On TV it's more complicated. A great occasion to discover the game on Switch if it's not already done.
-
Dec 14, 2020Doom Eternal is one of my favourite games of this year, and Panic Button has outdone themselves in bringing this unforgettable FPS to the Nintendo Switch. There are some awkward nags like the clunky Joy-Con sticks and playing at 30fps that bring the experience down a bit, but I'm still beside myself over the fact that Doom Eternal manages to work on a Nintendo Switch. Is this the ultimate version of the game? Not by a long shot. But if you only have access to a Switch or you've been dying to bring this game on the go, you'll still have the time of your life.
-
Dec 10, 2020The Switch port of Doom Eternal is as good as it possibly can be, with portability making up for a drop in visual fidelity and framerate.
-
Dec 10, 2020Doom Eternal on Switch remains Doom Eternal. Always so addicting and well paced, it will satisfy anyone in need of frantic action. It is obvious that concessions are made to make the id Software shooter stand on Switch, but the overall rendering is essentially identical to the 2016 episode on the same medium. We recommend it mainly when docked because the Joy-Con quickly shows its limits during more intense clashes.
-
Dec 9, 2020An extraordinarily good port that seems physically impossible given the modest abilities of the Switch but is just as playable and enjoyable as the other console versions.
-
Dec 9, 2020DOOM Eternal has undergone one of the most severe visual downgrades we've ever seen in order to get the game running on Switch – which is a portable console, lest we forget – but the fact that it runs at a solid 30 frames per second and, most importantly, is still fantastically good fun means this 'impossible' port is nothing short of a miracle. The looks may have taken a hit, but the non-stop action, incredible soundtrack and sheer satisfaction in taking out hordes of demons all add up to a game that is just as pure as it was on other formats.

Dec 10, 2020Quotation forthcoming.

CD-ActionJul 23, 2021I have no idea how Panic Button managed to cram one of the most spectacular action games into Nintendo Switch. It’s an amazing achievement, but of course it came with a price – the game runs smoothly enough at 30 fps, but looks ugly, and playing it with the Joy-Cons is a nightmare. I highly recommend using the Pro Controller, or better still, experiencing this terrific shooter on another platform. [02/2021, p.54]
-
Feb 4, 2021At the end of the day, I’m not here to judge the players or the market for this version of the game, I’m here to judge the actual game. From what I played, I can see a person picking this up and still having a fun time with it, but if I had the option to play it on another system or PC, I would choose to play it there. The resolution is an eyesore to say the least, but the gameplay is still smooth and works very well for the entire game. Take that as you will.
-
Jan 8, 2021Panic Button did the impossible once more, with an amazing conversion of a great game for the Nintendo Switch. Sure, the cut backs are visible, but the end product is very good, and it's a great port.
-
Dec 22, 2020DOOM Eternal on Nintendo Switch is a mechanically smooth experience to play. Combat feels tight, controls are decent and it runs smoothly. It’s one of the most impressive shooters of this generation and the fact that I can play it on a handheld device is exceptionally impressive. However, all of this comes at the cost of visual fidelity which is both distracting and takes away from the game’s overall appeal.
-
Dec 9, 2020Doom Eternal rips & tears up its quality for worse on Nintendo Switch, but grants an incredible wish by letting players take the highly addictive FPS anywhere.
-
Dec 23, 2020It's impressive achievement to be playing this on the Switch, the cut downs to get it on there are visible, but the core gameplay loop remains fun even if you're looking through vaseline to get there.
-
Dec 19, 2020The Switch port is a technological wonder, but the lower (but stable) framerate hurts the overall experience.
-
Dec 14, 2020DOOM Eternal still feels great on the go in its Switch version, but of course, you'll have to be ready to make do with sub-par visuals. Thankfully, Panic Button defined the 30 fps framerate as a top priority, which guarantees a playable game at all times, even if the resolution has to dip very low at some times to keep the frames coming. It's blurry, but it's fast.
-
Apr 12, 2021Doom Eternal is decent on the Switch and is a great game overall even with its issues. If you must play this game on the Switch, then be aware of what you are getting. If you can get it on another platform, I suggest you do that.
-
Dec 21, 2020The Switch version of Doom Eternal is ultimately a complex beast to recommend. If you’re someone wanting to take on some demons on the go? The lack of an adaptable UI makes it tough to recommend based on the amount of text which is unreadable when in handheld mode. For those players who primarily play Docked, especially if the Switch is one’s primary system? It makes for a far better prospect.
