EveryThis game is pretty terrible--more of a college 3d gaming project than a finished product. The levels are formulaic and repetitive. Every "key" is on an "altar" surrounded by a pit on all sides that you have to use the pitiful jump function to get across, which often results in falling into the pit to instant doom since you have to be lined up almost perfectly for your poor jumping abilities to work. Not a bad idea for an occasional key, but just an annoying frustration when it's *every* key.
The levels only have 1 type of enemy (each level gets a new one), and a boss. Enemies can be easily cheesed by using any weapon with a range greater that 3.0--simply take a swing, and they'll stand in place swinging, while you can back off and hit them. Bosses, same thing. Which you pretty much have to do, since there's no blocking/dodging (since the controls are so clunky) beyond backing away from the enemy before they swing. Once you get familiar with the "combat", the only way enemies can hit you is by sneaking up on you (since there's no sound to their footsteps) while you're wandering through the halls or busy with a chest or another enemy.
The only objects you can interact with are the chests and keys. Chests contain either gold, food (for a pittance of health), or arrows. Sorry, *arrow*. You only get one per quiver you find, even though the graphics depict several. You buy all your weapons, no options to upgrade armor, buy health potions, or anything--just weapons. XP is useless past 2700, since you can only upgrade each of your 3 stats to 10. Not that the stats really seem worth it, save for the strength--I didn't notice any differences in jumping or weapon swing speed from Agility 1 to Agility 10.
The levels, while randomly generated, are boring. It's either a room with an altar, or a hallway that may or may not have chests. You can't smash pots or barrels, which is just a crime against gaming. The only difference between levels is that they used a different texture map for the walls. Enemies get pre-planted and then they come after you once you step into their line of sight. Enemies make no noise; often you don't realized you're being attacked until the screen goes solid red and makes the "hit" noise.
You can't go fight the boss until you collect a set number of "keys" per level (basically, go explore the entire level, and then come back to the boss door and open it. Apparently, the bosses are super paranoid and put 9-12 locks on their door.)
Overall, it's basically a demo. More annoying than fun, because of the aforementioned repetition, pits and poor jumping. Sure it was cheap ($2.99 on the Switch), but still not worth it.… Expand
