Calico is really cute but the switch has all the bugs they said they fixed on steam powered. Com please fix them!

I can't believe I spent my Christmas money on this game. The creators didn't even take the time to change the controls for the switch. But when I just lost 4 hours worth of progress because the game froze and didn't let me save... I wish I could get a refund. It still needs so much work before it can be considered a good game. But I do not plan on making that progress again, or picking it up again. :') I really wanted to like it. I really did. Expand

Really cute concept but the game just doesn't feel polished. I really like the designs for the world and characters, and the graphics are ok, but the physics & controls feel awkward and clunky. If you make the wrong move you might get stuck somewhere and have to reload a save. At one point in the game you enter a little cutscene and the credits roll— after the credits were over it dumpedReally cute concept but the game just doesn't feel polished. If you make the wrong move you might get stuck somewhere and have to reload a save. At one point in the game you enter a little cutscene and the credits roll— after the credits were over it dumped me in the ocean with no way back up onto land. The cliffs are too steep to climb and it won't let me swim close enough to the beach. In addition, the controls are confusing to me. I think an option to switch the functions of A and B would be helpful. And in your journal, it would be helpful to have pictures or illustrations of the actual individual animals, rather than just their species. I really don't want to diss a cute indie game, because I can feel the love and hard work put into it, but from a gameplay perspective it needs some work. Expand

Wasted my money on this game.

The game starts you off as nude as they can let you in this game and it looked and played like shovelware.

Combining cats and other likeable creatures with a café should be a winning formula, but unfortunately Calico fails to offer an enjoyable time. Cute graphics and inventive concepts alone do not excuse the multitude of issues that give the game a feel of a draft version, rather than a finished product despite post-launch updates. Perhaps one day running a cat café will run like a dream, instead of a cute-themed nightmare.

What sounded like the combination of a management game, Animal Crossing, and The Sims turned out to be barely influenced by all three. If you’re looking for a relaxing Switch game where you can collect clothing, decorate your home, and hang out with animals, there is already the perfect game for you: Animal Crossing New Horizons. If you’ve already played it to the point of needing new joysticks, then there are plenty of other indie alternatives to pick up before giving Calico consideration.

While Calico‘s current state is vastly improved from its initial release thanks to these patches, its initial launch state can’t just be swept under the rug. But the continued effort to improve the game, combined with its welcoming, comforting, and charming nature shining through these unpleasant mats of fur, makes it clear that Peachy Keen Games is a developer with a lot of potential — and I can’t wait to see what they can do in the future with more experience.
