Oct 4, 2017Butcher is violent, fun, frantic, crazy…etc. It’s short, but a good play for the value. There are a good amount of options available, and it’s definitely got heart (granted, it’s dripping in blood). If you’re into the Doom series, or you’ve played other games like Quake, this game is definitively in that vein.

Oct 10, 2017Butcher commits to it's ultraviolent nihilistic aesthetic completely and if you’ve the stomach for it, it’s a hell of a ride. Every piece from the fast-paced movement and gunplay to the thick atmosphere of the levels and music combines to form an immensely challenging action game where every death just begs you to take another stab. If you have a nihilistic bone in your body and an appetite for fast-paced challenging action - Butcher will satisfy.

Nov 7, 2017BUTCHER is an incredibly slick and deliciously violent twin stick shooter that's found a perfect home on the Nintendo Switch. It's mobile friendly, thanks to the minute levels, and it runs like a dream on the hybrid console. If you're expecting something a little different, BUTCHER isn't it. But there's no way in hell you'll be disappointed with what's on offer here. It's a twin stick shooter to die for.
-
Oct 16, 2017Butcher is a grotesque love-letter to older shooters with addictive gameplay, plenty of different difficulty settings and disturbing imagery. However, it doesn’t have enough to offer as the content falls short leading to an incredibly unsatisfying conclusion.
-
Oct 13, 2017BUTCHER draws on the supremacy of the old glories of the shooter to put together a bloody, uncompromising and immediate 2D indie in all its underlying mechanics.
-
Nov 6, 2017Butcher is an overall fun and competent side-scroller with appealing looks. Pity that it quickly feels somewhat repetitive and doesn't offer enough variety to ensure a more sustainable lifespan but this doesn't stand in the way of making Butcher a fun experience.

Oct 17, 2017From the moment you boot Butcher up, it’s clear that it is a thoroughly focused game, for better or for worse. As an action game, Butcher features solid mechanics, but its focus on difficulty could easily turn players off completely or limit them only to its less rewarding casual mode. The design aesthetic is similarly executed, presenting a violent and dark atmosphere that will entrance some, while repulsing others. The end result is a game that many gamers would likely be able to find some enjoyment in, but only a certain type of player will likely be able to look past it’s handful of faults, unapologetic difficulty, and esoteric aesthetic to fully enjoy it.
