I waited for the Switch version. Maybe it's because I did not play the other version before I start my Switch version, I don't feel the slower frame-rate like some other people. This is my first Metroidvania game, and it is making me into a fan of the genre. The game crashes a few times for me, but I didn't get any other bugs that was reported.

While it doesn’t look as good on Switch compared to other platforms, the compromises are acceptable and offers a visual feast nonetheless. I do feel that the player’s character should be higher res but that’s really just a nitpick. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is essentially a more sophisticated Symphony of the Night with some additional interesting ideas that looks great and plays great on the Nintendo Switch. Expand

An almost perfect game for fans of the genre. Forget all negative reviews. Sure, the PS4 version looks/is better but it's still a pleasure to play on Switch. I had 25 hours of fun and am still motivated to uncover the whole map, discover all shards and trying out some weapons. I never feel forced to grind, I do it because it's fun. Looking forward for the upcoming free DLC

But still its a nice game, and I will be playing it for a few more hours to see whats hidden deeper under what I already saw..
I will update my comments after then... After I prepared the below video.. I spent a few more time playing it... and I like it more and more... I´m still not in love with it :-) but a fair friendship here :-) And my 11 years daughter saw it and went into the testing as well. and.. She likes it even more then I do... Only she is not used to RPG game and it will trouble her to use the different objects and weapons and potions and so one she will find on the way... Not even I was able to identify what for will most of the object to be used... the game is just much more complex, then what I was able to see in the video... So right away I must recommend it :-)

По интересу bloodstained не дотянул до sotn, aria/dawn of sorrow, но мне показался удачнее, чем portrait of ruin, order of ecclesia. Главные проблемы игры - технические. Надеюсь, что их со временем устранят и я смогу перепройти ее еще раз(пока желания такого не возникает)

Don't listen to the negitive reviews, it really isn't that bad. While in docked mode, the game only had two small problems. The first was the occasional crashes, which usually only happened when i talked to NPCs in Arantville. The only times the game crashed while I wasn't talking to an NPC was when I read a book in the Garden of Silence (The one above the first room when you enter from the Castle Entrance.) and during the ending. (which I'm still pissed about.) The game is FAR from unplayable and is incredibly enjoyable. However, handheld mode has a lot of lag so I don't recommend playing it in the car or something. Though i'm someone who doesn't care about frame rate, I can say that the drop to 30 isn't that big of a deal. It still runs fine with little to no lag in docked mode. I do say that the Library area is problematic due to long 30 second-ish loading times between rooms, which can be infuriating when jumping from one room to another and given a split second to react or your thrown into another 30 second long loading screen. Other than the Library area, this problem was nowhere else in the game. The soundtrack is mostly pretty forgettable (castlevania OSTs are overrated imo) but not bad at all, and like always some of the songs are completely awesome. (The Normal Boss theme, Ship Area theme, Tower of Twin Dragons theme, and Gremory Battle theme are all excellent.) The gameplay is top notch and is a mix of the two best castlevania games imo, Symphony of the Night and Aria of Sorrow. The game controls and progresses like Symphony of the Night but has the "Tactical Soul System" from Chronicles of Sorrow, but now souls are called "shards" but still function the same. I'm also glad to report that while shards do level up like in Dawn of Sorrow, they are not nearly as rare as they are in Dawn or Aria (to a lesser extent) and are actually quite common. (4-10% drop chance AT BASE) Also this game has some amazing features like a detailed cooking system that allows you to dramatically increase your stats whenever you eat a new food as well as substitute for potions and ethers. The game also features a vast crafting system which is a lot less grindy and cumbersome as Dawn of Sorrow's weapon upgrade system. Overall, the gameplay is great, and even the story is amazing. Castlevania games, despite having a vast amount of lore, are not usually focused on the story. This game is the same, but the story this time is much more compelling than something like Castlevania 3 or Portrait of Ruin. The playable character Miriam is not only ultra sexy (top tier waifu 2019) but is also extremely awesome and kicks butt. She also has a sense of humor, unlike top tier waifu 2009 Shanoa over here. (Don't @ me) The story also has some good plot twists, which I definitely wouldn't have seen coming if I didn't spoil myself when the game came out on other platforms. (What? I can't help it!) Overall, while this game on Switch definitely isn't ideal, it's far from unplayable, especially in docked mode. This is the true successor to Castlevania you have been waiting for since 2009's Order of Eclisia, and it's well worth the wait. Too bad the crashes on switch hold it back. 8/10. Expand

I was able to complete this game with no game breaking glitches and no crashes. I would often switch from dock to handheld because being a daddy means I have to play games where ever and when ever. Maybe when it first came out it was a hot mess, but as of now, it's great!
The music is superb, however, there was one area where I felt like the music was half-baked and could've done a better job setting the mood. The rest of the soundtrack sounds like it was ripped straight out of a Castlevania game.
Some of the weapons felt pointless. I REALLY wanted to use her legs the entire game, but the boot upgrades were always lesser than most of the swords I picked up. Also, I wish that the food I could eat for health would give me an HP count prior to cooking my ingredients so I didn't waste things cooking food that wouldn't help me in battle.
I was able to play this game to 100% completion in about 22 hrs.

Developed by Koji Igarashi with Michiru Yamane creating the soundtrack, as with the aforementioned titles developed under their stewardship, Bloodstained follows the same basic design that seamlessly blends RPG mechanics with Metroid type exploration. While these old tropes flare the nostalgia senses I do get the feeling the Metroidvania subgenre has seen it's bar moved considerably in recent times - largely thanks to near AAA epics like Hollow Knight and a long queue of creative and novel contemporary indie titles clamoring for that podium. Bloodstained thus lacks that freshness of innovation, preferring to embrace the old while doing little more than the bare minimum regarding something new. Despite this, the gameplay is tight and solid, combat is fun and engaging, there are a plethora of weapon and elemental options, as well as crafting activities to engage in. As with many Koji Igarashi titles, the curious gamer that engages in grinding will be rewarded for his/her effort. The gamer is spared handholding and it is possible to rush through and engage in boss battles when the character level and equipment are too weak for the task. This can make the game appear unfair or very challenging - with the occasionally punishing battles ostensibly appearing to have been won or lost by chance. Conversely, if you play the game as one would an expansive RPG, exploring each subsection thoroughly, battling weaker enemies for levelling up perks, the game proves never to be unfair or punishing. The game in this regard only punishes the impatient. The soundtrack produced by Michiru Yamane perfectly compensates the gameplay and is audio magnificence. Songs range from the bombastic guitar work reminiscent of a classic Y's game to somniferous dulcet tones where environmental noises are given front stage for the level atmospherics. The graphics adopt that contemporary 2.5D style applying rasterization technology although I personally would have preferred hand drawn graphics or pixel art in a style similar to Record of Lodoss War-Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth. Nonetheless the graphics in Bloodstained, at least the PC and PS4 version, are largely very good. This leads us to the main gripe with the Switch port of Bloodstained. The graphics run at much lower settings than that of the PC game (and PS4). On the small screen in portable mode it is fine but on a large panel like a 60" plus TV, the graphics look like a PS2 game adorned with extra bling, washed out low resolution textures and assets, jaggies and all. The frame rate for the Switch port is also capped at 30fps and in some areas the frame rate will dip into the low 20's. This aspect does not kill the experience - it is a single player title but it goes without say I would definitely have preferred a smooth 30fps experience, perhaps ideally a 60fps experience. The graphics are only a tragedy if you bother to run the Switch version side by side with the PC or PS4/Xbox version. Without that point of calibration, just play the game and enjoy it for what it is. In portable mode it proves to be an adequate port for one that glosses over the graphical fidelity (playing a game is surely more fun than counting pixels?). Graphical fidelity aside, this is largely the same experience as one would have on the PC/PS4/Xbox. No levels were chopped out and the game is as complete as the other ports. If you want to have a version of Bloodstained on the go, this Switch port will definitely do the job. If all you have is a Switch, buy this game and enjoy, ignore the haters and review bombing this game received. This is a good perhaps occasionally great Metroidvania title. On the PC I would have given it an 8.5/10, but due to the graphical problems and glitches, I feel inclined to drop the score for the Switch port by a letter grade. 7.5/10 (rounded to 8 since Metacritic does not do halves). A good game slightly marred by the stingy visual aesthetics of the Switch. This will be a case of YMMV. Expand

By the time the final performance update drops it will be those who snatch the game at a sale price that will ultimately benefit the most. There’s a 1.04 update that is expected by the end of November, and I would bet money that it won’t be the last. It’s a real shame because underneath the stigma of a troubled release and a lost first impression of a polished product, lies a potentially magnificent game that holds true to what it once ambitiously set out to achieve.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is a game that many fans wanted and it does a very good job when it comes to its fan service duties. If only the game’s performance matched its level of challenge, this would be an unforgettable, indispensable title but unfortunately, Ritual of the Night’s framerate drops and strange inconsistencies make this an experience that could have been much more of a breeze. Fans of Metroidvania games will still find plenty to be happy about it, though.
