If nostalgia is what you're looking for, then this remaster will definitely do the trick. It's a time warp back to a time where RPGs were tough as nails and devoted to making you suffer. It's not quite on the same level as anything in the Diablo series, but Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance might be worth a glance if you can look past its ancient flaws.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is a formidable challenge, particularly by modern games' standards, but one that's been ported rather brilliantly and is certainly a lot of fun to play. It may outstay its welcome to some extent with gameplay that's not quite complex enough to warrant its lengthy campaign, but the port is one of the very best we've seen, improving the visuals of the original and maintaining a flawless framerate along with a UI perfectly suited to handheld play. However, this is the game exactly as you remember it from 2001. If that's enough for you, you'll have fun with this version. If you're on the fence — or if you're not ready to get kicked on your ass a lot — we'd recommend waiting for a sale.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is a fun game to return to, and somehow it feels and plays exactly as everyone remembers, yet doesn't feel any worse than before despite its age. It has the same great loot and explore-heavy gameplay, with hoards of enemies to chop through as well as co-op play. However, it also falls into the same pitfalls, and for a remaster that is unfortunate. It's going to be a lot of fun for those who played it in the past, but new players beware of the rough difficulty and old-fashioned gameplay approach.

Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance has sadly not held up for a modern audience. If you already enjoyed the game, then this is a decent port to current hardware. For everyone else, the game is clunky, drab, and boring.

played this when i was really young, so in my eyes, nostalgia is a pretty high with me. this game was a really fun and glad it got aplayed this when i was really young, so in my eyes, nostalgia is a pretty high with me. this game was a really fun and glad it got a Port/Remaster. i saw from other Reviews that they didn't do anything to the game at all and was a Cash grab. but thing is they Updated modals from the ps2 Era to be more Detailed. if anything there is nothing wrong with bringing this game back into the Spotlight after going Unseen for so long and not Pull a Halo Master Chief Collection or a Demon souls Remake.

    pros:
if you like any of the Diablo games, well it like that but with more heavy on the Dungeons and Dragons Paint. same with the Creatures

a pretty good story that leaves you guessing what is happening next.

Good atmospheric music and overall great music and Sound Design.

weapons feel like they have heft, and the magic is satisfying.

Updated Modals and Textures(in certain places)

Finally three well made Characters that play Differently form each other.

    Cons
it does suffer from random damage Spikes from monsters. the Slimes come to mind.

the Shopkeeper doesn't Really Update is stock as much.

can feel easy if you know how to Cheese the Ai.

    Overall
this game is the Best from my Child hood and cant wait to play the hell out of it all over again. if you want a game that is dumb fun this is the game for you. but if you are on the Fence since the Price is $40. well it kind is Steep but for me it was worth picking back up. and i cant wait for Black isle to bring my Baldur's gate dark alliance 2.

    Edit
the Reviews i spoke of were from the Ps4 and Xbox Reviews

I booted the origional game on Xbox and played them side by side and this updated version is great. I thought tbe origional had more rumble , but i was wrong, must be the Norath games.. I love SnowBlind Studios games.. Ive been playing
    Baldurs Gate
    Justice League Heroes
    Champions Of Norath 1 and2
    LOTR War in the North
All their games,, consistantly for 2 decades. I love their stuff. The way they make their combos flow, the interesting level design, their pacing and progression that keeps the player engaged from begining to end.. And the way they used the hardware to get the best feeling in combat. They used rumble in a way the every swing felt substamtial and its a shame its missing here.. That aside, this is a perfect port. 4K 60 on PS4 pro.. Stable performance and most importantly "" NO Censorship"".. This is the exact game we got on OG Xbox running and looking modern..
Awsome work by SQUARE ONE studios,, this is what a modern port should be, except with the rumble odd course..
The game its self is the definitive perfect action RPG. Sure the North games surpassed BG DA in most ways, but this was the furst and most iconic. They dont make games like this anymore. Tuning out and falling into the rythem of grinding and leveling your character is what Snowblind did best.. I miss that Studio.

And unlike Diablo 3 it’s actually challenging even on normal from the start. I play primarily in handheld mode and so graphics are fine. In docked mode this game looks much better than when I hook up my PS2 to a 4k TV. I never saw it discounted and it is a bit pricey given the lack of updates other than crisper resolution If you really like more modern games like this you will probably find it underwhelming if you didn’t play it previously. Same thing with Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition. These games were great in their day and are collectors items in their original formats. I recommend thus game to any classic gamer as the best way to play both this game and it’s sequel. For everyone else it’s enjoyable but missing modern features and graphics, so take that into account. Expand
