Well, not entirely... One small village of indomitable Gauls still holds out against the invaders. And life is not easy for the Roman legionaries who garrison the fortified camps of Totorum, Aquarium, Laudanum and Compendium. Peace reigns in the small Armorican village, where the villagers go about their daily business. Our two heroes, Asterix and Obelix, hunt wild boar, the blacksmith and the fishmonger quarrel, and the village chief strolls around the village square atop his shield.

After a fine day's hunting, Asterix and Obelix return to find their village in flames, pillaged by the Romans! They set off to rescue their fellow villagers, accompanied by their faithful Dogmatix. Astérix y Obélix XXL Romastered does not improve the original game, it only makes it playable nowadays.

Too many technical problems spoil a good remastered job. The lovers of the original game will appreciate this simple game ideal to play with kids.

Asterix & Obelix XXL Romastered is a timid dusting off of a 17-year-old game which, as it is, shows the weight of years. Archaic structure and game systems alongside quite a few visual bugs and significant framerate drops on consoles.

I own this game as part of the XXL Collection.
At the start I quite liked the game, beating up Romans and Normans while resolving little riddles was funny. The possibility to instantly change between the romastered version and the original was a nice little bonus. The voice acting, though sparse, was top notch and done by the original cast of the movies for Asterix and Obelix (I played the French version). The minor bugs I encountered weren't game breaking.
Until I've beaten the boss in Greece, the prison cell in which were imprisoned Impedimenta and Mrs Geriatrix wouldn't open, making it impossible to progress in the game.
I'm not in the mood to restart from the last save spot, who knows which other fatal bugs this game has to offer further in.
Avoid this game, even if you are an Asterix fan like me. I could resell the collection since I purchased its physical version, but I don't dare to make someone else miserable.
