The community at large is pretty sweet, so my online multiplayer experience has been pretty good so far, but it seems that you shouldn't share accounts on a same switch, which is definitely a glaring weakness. Overall I highly recommend. It's been likened to the Lego Duplo version of Minecraft, which I can't deny. Expand

Great but not perfect... Animal Crossing : New Horizons is like a breath of fresh air and is really fun: but can be rather slow at times and some days make you feel you almost have nothing to do.

How can Nintendo make a game, that has less content than the previous ones? Less characters , less resident dialogues, less fruit trees, less shops/buildings..........
But it is fun to play but it needs many content updates to become a good game

This game is great and people are salty you can only have one island per console. I will take a point off because there isn’t much to do in the late game but otherwise it is everything you’d come to expect from a modern animal crossing game.

This is by far the best Animal Crossing title in the franchise! The world looks great, the villagers are bright and cheerful, and terraforming is very addicting. I recommend this game to anyone who is looking for a relaxing life-sim.

I would love this game ... if I was the one who actually got to play it. I bought the game but my roommate played it before I had the chance to and doesn’t understand why I’m upset. I just get to be the jerk who’s bad at sharing, when really there is absolutely no reason why Nintendo can’t allow for separate islands for separate user profiles. Heck, I’d buy a separate copy of the game to have my own island if that would solve it. But my roommate isn’t going to buy her own Switch, so I’m just stuck being the angry jerk who wasted $60. Do better, Nintendo. Expand

The game itself contains a lot of fun. However, there are plenty of conflicts in this game. First, it encourages players to play with their friends. But the experience of visiting friends is just like UPS: slow, complicated operations, and unstable connections. When you disconnect with your friend, all of you will lose your progress. When you try to reconnect, the long, nagging conversation will drive you mad over and over again. Second, the game is set to be one island per console. But if you lost your switch, or broke it by accident, well, congratulations, you would lose all the time you waste on this game. This is hilarious. Also the local multi-player experience is just like sharing the toilet with your partners. It could happen, but we all wish that it should never happen. So be it. Expand

We had to find this out after I wasn't getting the "infrastructure" option with Tom Nook and then Googled why.

This is a stupid limitation. Secondary players should be able to contribute to island infrastructure even if a "primary" player has to allow this somehow. Nintendo needs to fix this idiocy. What a disappointment to learn after playing for so long.

Anima Crossing has it's charms but there is a TON of grinding (at one point it took me a week to get the 30 iron I needed to advance the game because I didn't realize rocks could be harvested without destroying them and you need to dig holes around them to cheeze the maximum amount out of them, I mean really?)

The first player who starts anything in the game is now the representative and if they quit a week later then you have to restart your entire island and progress to appoint a new representative. That could be hours upon hours of progress which you have to restart because of a broken mechanic. What’s the point of a representative to begin with? Every save file should have their own island and Nintendo should allow people to progress at their own rates. Terrible game mechanic. If you own a switch with multiple people who play on it, avoid this game. It will create family feuds and will be a waste of your hard earned dollars if you’re going to share the game. Expand

If you want to jump on the bandwagon, buy it for your little sister, let her build her island, watch her play a bit, and maybe visit with your own character. Then totally avoid it, because it really is like living inside a pre-adolescent girl’s brain. They could have made this game so much better but I think they are hemmed in by their fan base. Don’t reward the developers with your hard-earned cash. It will only encourage them further.

It is absurd that you cannot have another Switch user to have its own island. Yeah, you saw right. Every user on the same Switch shares the same island. That really, really, really sucks and it alone made this rating. Hope Nintendo hears us and changes this in a near future.

Animal Crossing New Horizons is basically perfect. Full of wholesome content that helped us cope with the COVID-19 pandemics, the game keeps the heart of its predecessors while innovating enough to make it unique. It may not have won Game of the Year but it'll be the game we all remember from 2020, for sure.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a stunning new instalment in the Animal Crossing franchise, hindered only by its lack of immediate content, quality of life issues and missing returning characters and features While future updates will give the game long-term playability, for those already sipping vacation juice on their five-star islands, island life feels pretty mundane right now.

It’s full of detail, pretty small things, and surprisingly well working simulations and systems – everything polished in such a way that the player really does care about everything that’s going on. [06/2020, p.40]
