Fun, funny, frequently frustrating and definitely not for kids. [Issue #50 – January/February 2021, p. 17]

Clearly inspired by old-school action platformers, Angry Video Game Nerd 1 & 2 Deluxe presents two beautifully remastered games complimented by a rocking soundtrack. The game’s vulgar language and brutal difficulty won’t appeal to everyone, but retro gamers and AVGN fans will really appreciate everything this game has to offer.

The Angry Video Game Nerd: I & II Deluxe may actually have permanently damaged any further AVGN episodes by James Rolfe. By taking all those years of experience reviewing the worst of the worst, the game based on his visage has taken all those elements and crafted an incredibly fun pair of platformers. As a re-release there have been a number of welcome additions and compared to the original PC releases both are a lot more forgiving than previously. It's a must buy for any fan and an invitation for new players to revel in the unique humour while playing a tight, fun platformer at the same time. Not a whiff of Buffalo Diarrhoea to be found here.

Well-produced and undeniably fun, Angry Video Game Nerd 1 & 2 Deluxe will definitely lose something for non-fans, but it’s a world above the turgid likes of PoopDie. This re-release elevates the workmanlike original to the point that it almost outshines its formerly-leagues-better sequel, but both games are good stuff. It’s comfortably the best "YouTuber game", and this edition polishes it up in all the right places. If you’re a fan of the AVGN, it’s a must-buy. If you’re not, you’ll probably still enjoy yourself – Freakzone has crafted a meaty, responsive and rewarding pair of platformers that genre enthusiasts will get a kick out of. If you’ve already played both games, the extra chapter isn’t lengthy enough to demand a double-dip, but it is a nice inclusion regardless, and this version is undeniably the better option. (Whoops, we almost forgot the best news of all – the Nostalgia Critic has been entirely removed from ASSimilation. Let joy be unconfined!)

Angry Video Game Nerd I & II Deluxe is a great collection for fans of AVGN, retro gaming, or wacky humor loaded with profanity.

This collection is a must-own for fans of AVGN. Without the reverence for the show these are simply two solid side scrolling games that will definitely entertain but will not resonate with players as much. I found myself in pure heaven since I have watched every episode of AVGN as well as the movie. I loved the references, and it is clear that the developers really took the time to make them more than just cameos. It is great to also see these games finally making their way to consoles. Now just get me my Xbox One version and all will be right in the world. Even if it is published by LJN.

The developers FreakZone Games have created a pair of competent games that play to their source material well. If you’re into platforming that’s as hard as diamonds and still enjoy the series’s brand of humour, you might want to take these games for a spin. But for me, who hasn’t watched a Nerd video in years and had his fill of NES hard when the NES was the system of record, I’m out.

In myThis is a 9 out of 10 game with an extra point added for all the AVGN nostalgia. For any old-school gamers, this is right up your alley. In my opinion, the only reason anyone would rate this game low is because they're not appreciative of the old-school platform style. The only thing I'd add, is to utilize one of the un-used buttons to flip off the screen/ player or the enemies. That would be funny as hell. Id also have loved to hear actual voice acting. I'd totally be supportive for a number 3 sequel! Expand

It has the authentic feel of old Nintendo games but with modern attributes like quick re-spawns. The levels are fun, it’s hard but fair and not too frustrating (except for a couple of the bosses), and has classic AVGN humour and references. It’s not very long but for the price is reasonable and I had a good time playing. I’m now gonna petition for the nerd to be a DLC fighter in Smash Ultimate :D Expand

It is a homage to 2d 8 bit platformers for the Nintendo Entertainment System and parts of 16 bit platformers from the Sega Genesis and the SNES era. It has elements that some might not enjoy, like the heavy use of cursing, (such as, **** **** cock, etc.) a porn level, (which is from the episode where he talks about Atari porn games) a level where you go to hell and fight satan, etc. It is a compilation of 2 fan-made games based on James Rolfe's series by Freakzone Games. They are wonderfully remade and looks a lot better than the original ones that were made a while back. For bying the deluxe version on Switch and Steam (PS4 and Xbox One versions are coming some time later) you get a bonus world to play through, if you are up to the challenge to beat the first two games first. In summery, AVGN l and ll Deluxe is a good game for AVGN fans, retro game lovers, and people who like James Rolfe's kind of humor Expand

Great game for fans of the Nerd, with all the references to his most popular videos.
Sometimes I wanted to throw my controller or (depending how I played) the Switch against a wall because I encountered some difficult spots even on normal difficulty.

Which means the game delivered as intended and is full in the spirit of the Nerd's videos.

The game is good, moderately complex, beautiful and very funny, BUT:
First of all, I can't play the last Chapter. I passed the first two parts at the third level of difficulty by 100%, but in the end the last Chapter just crashes(there are no broken files, reinstalling did not help). Very offensive... I watched a video on YouTube, there are very cool levels, it's a shame even. Because of this and such a small score, because if you do not count this jamb, the game is 8/10.
Secondly, a lot of old references were turned over, some bosses were simply reskinned, others were rewritten. I like some of the solutions(Unicorn was piece of **** but now...) but most of them don't(where is Nostalgia Critic?!).
    From the main all.
P.s. after patch 1.2.0 everything works! I'm finally going to pass this damn game!
