Its not as bad as the professional critics have made it out to be. First I would like to point out that 'World Championship Poker 2: Featuring Howard Lederer' was well received by the critics yet almost all public reviews were very low scores as many were incensed by the game randomly freezing up, effectively ending your progress. How was this fact not picked up by the pros? Its not as bad as the professional critics have made it out to be. First I would like to point out that 'World Championship Poker 2: Featuring Howard Lederer' was well received by the critics yet almost all public reviews were very low scores as many were incensed by the game randomly freezing up, effectively ending your progress. How was this fact not picked up by the pros? World Series of poker's AI is very difficult to judge. I feel some of the critics must have lost some big hands and automatically blamed the A.I. for their loss, I can't tell at this stage (I will update you guys on the A.I when I play the game even more). The graphics are fine but repetitive, the sounds are good, the voices are terrible, annoying to say the least, but you can turn that down. The presentation and career mode are good. The major downer for me is the game speed that appears to be very random. While you're playing, you'll eventually find yourself pressing the x button as fast as you can to get the game moving faster (the x botton skips graphical short scenes of your opponents actions), its cute at first but you realise its very repetitive and tedious. And then the strange thing is how the game speeds up too quickly during showdowns, one second you're all in and then the next you'll see a close up of the character who won the hand. You hardly have time to figure out who won by yourself, you spend a few seconds later examining each other cards to see what went wrong because as soon as the 5th card is displayed, you have miliseconds to look at it. It kind of takes the fun out of showdowns. Overall, its nowhere near as bad as the critics make you believe. Its not amazing either. I would pay attention to what the public has written and wait for World Tour Poker before making your decision. Expand

i was expecting a lot from reader reviews on ebgames, but as much as i want to love this game, the production quality is so low. but i will say the AI is pretty good, and makes for a quick poker game on the go.

There's essentially no reason to pick up World Series of Poker. Scratch that, there is no reason to pick up World Series of Poker. Regardless of the fact that it's a portable version of Hold 'em, Omaha and whatnot, it's still not worth snagging.

And hey, you don't have to worry about getting fitted for cement shoes later, am I right? I just wish the presentation was a bit more illustrious.

Another cynical exploitation of a fad, but hey, at least it's portable. [Dec 2005, p.139]
