I was anticipating control issues due to the lack of a second analog stick but they weren’t as bad as I had imagined. In all, this is a fairly solid handheld port of the console version.

Official Playstation 2 Magazine UKAt times sublime, but sadly it's the frantic and frustrating Dark Prince sections that linger longest in the memory. [Jan 2007, p.78]
-
Regrettably, Rival Swords offers nothing to players that have already experienced Two Thrones. Aside the fact that this is a handheld version, there really is no reason to even pick this up unless you like your Prince to go.
-
The key syllable is port. Prince of Persia: Rival Swords sits alongside games like "Star Wars Battlefront 2" and "Tony Hawk's Project 8" as ambitious versions of great console games that still come up short.
-
A great example of modern platforming, coupled with a terrible example of a fighting game. Still, much more to love than hate.
-
The graphics look very good on the PSP, particularly with the enormous level layouts and smooth animations of the Prince and his dark side. However, the game has bugs, the most notable being flickering and poor looking textures. The audio has its problems as well.
-
Prince of Persia Rival Swords has gameplay that has been well translated for the PSP but is awfully dragged down by technical problems.
-
For those who want a title like this on the PSP, there's a game to love hidden down deep in here. You just have to dig through a bunch of technical obstacles to get to it.
-
The addition of a few extra areas does not make up for the massive amount of flaws, both gameplay and graphical, that turns a fun game into a chore.
