Unfortunately, there isn't a Franchise mode in MVP, but there is a great season mode, as well as an addictive Homerun Showdown. [May 2005, p.71]
  2. Gameplay definitely takes some getting use to, due to the design of the PSP.
  3. Sure you’ll miss the features found on the bigger boys (Owner Mode or even Spring Training Mode) but there’s just no denying how good this game feels in your hands.
  4. There isn't another baseball game on the system that feels this authentic or puts so many aspects under the player's control.
  5. MVP’s a solid game that does a nice impersonation of a PS2 title, but its got a number of flaws and missing features that make 989’s "MLB," not MVP, the baseball game to have for the PSP this year.

Simply a solid hit rather than the round-tripper it could've been. [Aug 2005, p.84]

Next time we want better looking characters, models, more detail in the stadiums, no black-out screens, less glitches and online gameplay. They're completely capable of pulling it off, which makes their shortcoming here all the more disappointing.
  8. MVP Baseball has all the makings of a great game but it lacks the polish and refinement and just has too many glitches to make a wholehearted recommendation. There’s always next season.

Sporting bigger loads than John Holmes (almost all of EA's PSP titles are plagued with long load times), this miniature version of the MVP franchise seems to be trying a little too hard to look good.

This game is more ambitious than Sony's PSP baseball title, but MVP's gameplay hiccups may leave you looking elsewhere. [July 2005, p.126]
  11. Those expecting a full-on console version on the handheld will be disappointed, as EA serves a stripped-down game plagued with needlessly frustrating controls.
  12. Same old flawed fielding and the same old cheesy play against the computer. Couple that with some problems in the graphic department that actually affect the gameplay, and not having up-to-date rosters makes this not the Baseball game for you.
  13. EA has some great ideas that are just poorly implemented, and it would've been nice to see them rework it for next year.

If this title had come out before the console version, I'm sure we'd have been amazed by its accomplishments, rather than puzzled by its mistakes.

A castrated version of its console counterpart. [Aug 2005, p.89]
  16. If EA Sports had worked harder to include most of the stuff from the console game, they could've had a winner with MVP Baseball. But it's not to be.
  17. It will definitely pass the time while taking the subway to and from work but at the end of the day, you'll come home, turn off the PSP and fire up the console version which is a homerun compared to this ballwalker.
  18. Franchise and online options have been left out, the batting system is mindless and the graphics are really choppy. In a way, this game’s poor performance actually benefits you, the consumer, because you should know without any doubt that this is not the baseball game you want for your PSP.
  19. A sloppy, rushed port. The controls don't translate well, the player models are well below the capabilities of the PSP, and the homer-happy gameplay is a complete break from the console experience.

Going out with a bang for them has turned into sneaking out with a whimper. Not exactly my idea of the ol' ball game.

One look at the out-of-date rosters (frozen in time at the original release date) will show you how little attention was paid to the development of this game.

The game is awsome and by far the best I have bought for my psp. However, there is nothing worse than getting into the top of the ninth, with The game is awsome and by far the best I have bought for my psp. However, there is nothing worse than getting into the top of the ninth, with a 1 run lead and 1 out away from a big winand Bam! the game freezes. I have had it happen too many times to count. I had to get used to waiting for the scrren to flash, which signals me that the game is done with the substitution. Then proceed with the game play. I shoudn't have to spend my time trying to read the screen so I don't lose my 3 homerun performance. Other than that, I love this game. Full Review »
