After Burner: Black Falcon brings arcade fun into to the palm of your greedy little hands with beautiful environments, a likeable, if not eccentrtic, cast of pilots and truly exceptional rail shooter styled game-play. If you love arcade flight games, this is a must own title for the PSP.
-
After Burner: Black Falcon is much more exciting, colorful, and just plain fun. It delivers addictive arcade aerial combat requiring almost instinctive reflexes, all at the speed of sound.
-
While the large metallic joystick and arcade unit might be dust in the ether (actually there's the original arcade unit I remember for sale on eBay now) I'm at a point where I can't walk past my PSP without picking it up.
-
Play UKFor arcade gameplay that's barely changed at all in the 20 years since the original, After Burner: Black Falcon still feels fresh and thrilling, and the graphical facelift it's been given makes it exciting to watch too. [Issue #152, p.70]
-
Games Master UKThis is how retro games should be revived. A glorious, intense arcade shooter. [May 2007, p.82]
-
It could've used additional multiplayer options and the overused rock music gets old. Past that, the game play, graphics, customization features and humorous touches from Planet Moon (like a flying cow) make this a game PSP owners should gun for.
-
Afterburner is addictive and fun, but best played in short bursts. Though the game is sometimes challenging, it never gets frustrating if only because it no longer requires a stream of quarters to keep the action going.
-
Considerably challenging yet very straightforward, the game doesn’t offer enough variety but it still manages to remain fast-paced and action-packed. If you like a good portable flight combat game then this is the game for you.
-
One of the better PSP games to come out this year, a trailblazing flight action game that doesn't let up on the gas. It stays true to the arcade roots while also creating a little something new, and it ranks amongst Planet Moon's best works.
-
Official Playstation 2 Magazine UKSo it's not an epic free-roaming adventure, but After Burner is finely formed arcade shooting: a perfectly proportioned aerial shooter. [Apr 2007, p.94]
-
It's got a low learning curve, and once you get past the admittedly slow-going first couple of stages and pick yourself up a real plane, it's a sonic-booming good time all around.
-
Playstation Official Magazine UKIt's ballsy, hugely moreish, and so consistently exciting that not even the inevitably repetitive nature of the gameplay can bring this jet down. [June 2007, p.100]
-
It delivers a payload of pick-up-and-play fun, a goofy story and unlockable do-dads without resorting to overbearing plot contrivances or busy work.
-
In the jet games I’ve recently reviewed, I felt like I breezed through the missions and thus their shallow customization options, but that didn’t happen with After Burner...The game challenges without frustrating.
-
unless landing on an aircraft carrier and being saluted with the “Mission Accomplished” banner is all you’re looking for, you’re going to have to search elsewhere for a deeper experience.
-
PSM3 Magazine UKA good effort. [June 2007, p.82]
-
Black Falcon is an updated version of the arcade game that does everything right, without loosing the original essence of the game.
