The gold standard of RPG’s. It’s an old game but still a solid storyline and a fan favorite. Can’t wait for the remake.

I played this game in my teenage years, it's a masterpiece.
Story and characters are excellent 10/10

Okay, I have to admit it, I'm slightly biased, but it is an excellent game, if you haven't played it yet, get your PS1 out!

+ 2nd fav game ever after FF VIII.
+ FFVII has an amazing story.
+ One of the best OST of all time.
+ Not padded with side quests to the point most of it is side quests like modern games.
+ Materia system offers a good amount of customisation.
    - The ending could of been a tad better.
    - Character models while exploring were dated looking even for the time.

A great game, not the best final fantasy, not the best RPG, but great for its year and fun. The graphics and the narrative are not as good as the gameplay but if you love RPG you should play this one.

P.S I'm sorry, all you fans of childhood memories, but 1997 is the year when Fallout was released and, at last, we have something to compare jRPG against. And, excuse me, but I consider scoring FF7, or any other jRPG, higher then 3 an offence to creators of Fallout, Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment.

My second favorite FF, Cloud is most likely the most iconic FF character to ever be created, with tons of spin off games, and characters used in multiple games from different eras, and franchises, that should tell you something, this game is as FF as you can get, an almost perfect game, with almost no negatives that come to mind, an easy in my opinion 10/10.

(no spoilers) I can't recommend this game enough. To be expected the graphics are dated and so are the animations. But this game has a lot to offer. I mean this with the world that Square has created, the characters and themes/issues.

When I was in high school a friend of mine talked to me about some important plot points of FFVII, because I didn't have a PS1 and because back in 1999 there wasn't a 'culture' of not spoil things I didn't mind at all, then years later I watched Advent Children and I really liked it (still), the years passed and it was till February 2019 that I first played and completed FFVII and damn, atWhen I was in high school a friend of mine talked to me about some important plot points of FFVII, because I didn't have a PS1 and because back in 1999 there wasn't a 'culture' of not spoil things I didn't mind at all, then years later I watched Advent Children and I really liked it (still), the years passed and it was till February 2019 that I first played and completed FFVII and damn, at first I was reluctant of the title of "Best RPG" or "Best FF" but as the thing went along, by the credits I was really moved on and I was converted to another Jenova believer.

The thing is that I can't imagine how amazing would be if I played the whole thing not knowing anything about it, the characters, the story, the passing, the music, everything is an ambitious piece, the graphics are obviously from the PS1 era but they have aged so well, this game has everything, comedy, horror moments, kaiju, doublecrossing, philosophical stuff, really just everything. There are a few issues with the controls or in more than a few battles, because of the camera angles I couldn't heal or revive the right character, but just that. The story is so masterfully crafted that even when I think I knew everything (because of my friend and well... the internet) I was so invested and wanted to see how it will unfold next.

This game made me reconsider all the classics that I still haven't played and set a really high bar for all the others FF that I still have to play, a true masterpiece that everyone should play, so if you haven't played it before, just give yourself a favor and go right ahead.

A dark and enthralling story and intriguing characters are marred by over-bright Lego-like models with bowling pin arms and frequently disappearing facial expressions that pop scathingly out of dingy pre-rendered backgrounds; it all cheapens the presentation into farcical puppet theater. Sluggish performance and gargantuan load times reduce the battles to frustratingly unresponsive slideshows; even the menus exhibited noticeable delays. Weird graphical issues such as the landscape wobbling and warping as the camera moves, characters shimmering as they animate, and textures and triangles randomly popping in and out shatter the immersion; FMV sequences reminded us of mid-80's ray-tracing demo reels in their primitiveness. The whole colour range seems limited to dismal greys, browns, and the occasional blue or yellow. To top it all off, the entire screen is covered by an ugly, noticeable, dithered mesh that had us wiping our televisions until we realized what it was.

All this leads us back to the sinking sensation we've had for a while now: that for all the "wow" factor, this new 3D generation of home video game consoles isn't quite ready for prime time yet. Even last year's Super Mario 64 on Nintendo's 64-bit powerhouse, for all its technical impressiveness, felt like an unfinished product in many respects with its blurry, repetitive textures, seams, and sharp pointy edges; as much as we wanted to like it we kept pining for a bigger and better sprite-based Mario.

And that's why we feel so disappointed with VII; there are so many good ideas in here that are wasted on technology that's not quite there yet. Square know how to make an enthralling epic fantasy RPG; the narrative techniques and core gameplay of 'Fantasy' keep on evolving and improving. The new cyberpunk-style near-future setting and the new hero Cloud's devil-may-care attitude are all welcome departures for the series; Square somehow manage to blaze new territory while still masterfully merging the familiar fantasy elements. The musical score is, as always, outstanding. And yet the whole experience is ruined by a mushy, clunky, glitchy presentation that just feels unprofessional.

So in short, we feel that VI - even with the narrative glue falling apart a tad in its second half - is still the superior Final Fantasy experience with its polish and smooth responsiveness, but this one will certainly leave its mark in gaming history. And not all hope is lost. Technology has always evolved in fits and starts; no doubt in a decade or so 3D hardware and software developers alike will have worked out the kinks and VII will get the epic cinematic sequel - or remake perhaps? - that it deserves. Until then, here's hoping the current crop of consoles is just a phase.

Moments later, our hero, still unnamed, got off a train with the purpose of destroying a mako energy reactor, something that was being detrimental to the health of the planet. In this way we got into the skin of a former soldier who had become a kind of terrorist, but really was a mercenary who works for Avalancha, a formation that fought against the Shinra organization. The emotion of these first minutes would catch us instantly, but everything that was to come was going to hook us much more to the command of our console (or computer keyboard, although I prefer the PSX version). The fight to save the planet was going to lead us to discover a man named Sephirot, ex-soldier with a mysterious past, who was much more powerful than any enemy seen before, and who would not hesitate to destroy everything in his path in the face of dementia...

I have no doubt that the system of subjects, invocations, objects, limits is the best system ever created in an RPG. This also offers plenty of freedom of operation, as well as fun and tension in every fight that is impossible not to enjoy and praise. We managed a Cloud in the environment for which we advanced, we moved by the pre-rendered funds and in the moment in which we had to fight, the screen changed. We went from polygonal and anarchic characters -virtually speaking-, to a much more balanced and compensated in combat, where we did manage all the members of our team.

As we were discovering locations and advancing in the plot, we could move around the map with complete freedom, although this depended on the means of transport that we had. With the boogie we could cross small rivers, which was an advance compared to the race on foot; with the ship "Strong Wind" we could explore almost any location on the map... And I say almost, because we would have to use the chocobos (a kind of colored ostriches) to access the last corners of the planet, where we would be waiting for succulents rewards.

Final Fantasy VII at the time of its release, certain aspects were seen as revolutionary, a plot that focused on the development of the characters, a unique battle system and 3D graphics...

To finish with this brief summary about Final Fantasy VII, I am going to talk about the duration of the title, since the game can last 150 hours if we propose to complete all the challenges, for example kill the "Weapons" of the planet by which we move, which are huge enemies that will make things very difficult, get all the materials, the chocobos cited or learn all the parallel stories that lead to Sephirot, Shinra and Cloud. I also want to highlight the excellent soundtrack, orchestrated, with unique melodies, as well as some more special ones for romantic, sad, happy, relaxed or tension moments.

And I will not talk about the scenes, which is something that cannot explained by words and one should witness them with one's own eyes.

The greatest masterpiece ever delivered by the world of video games.
