With a near perfectly judged difficulty curve, randomly generated dungeon layouts, and savagely addictive gameplay, for me, The Binding of Isaac not only makes an outstanding addition to PS Vita's ever flourishing digital line-up, it also represents everything that is good about the industries vibrant indie scene.

With any luck, if Isaac turns out to be even half the success that it's endlessly compelling gameplay so richly deserves, perhaps McMillen will team up with Nicalis once more, and bring the equally enthralling Super Meat Boy to Playstation systems too.

    Here's hoping! :-)

This review is coming from a newbie. An inexperienced player of this series, but I can say I'm am so happy I bought this. Its so addicting and fun. Sure there's a trial and error, but that's what makes it fun to continue to play. I love the gross art style, the little poop? guys are so cute. I look forward to spending my life trying to beat this game :)

The upgrade from flash enabling everything to run smoother, coupled with loads of additional content (new characters, items, rooms, bosses) this game is even better than the original. Even if you don't have PS+ to get this for free, spend the money on it. Fair warning though, it is rather challenging, so unless you're already decently skilled (or are prepared to take the time to improve) get ready for some major frustration.

For anyone who hasn't played the original, it's essentially a twin-stick shooter. There are some rather dark themes to the game, and a lot of religious references that some may find offensive, so just be aware of that.

Overall, if you're comfortable with some potentially offensive content and you're looking for an amazing twin-stick shooter style game packed with content, definitely a must-have title!

Extremely unique indie masterpiece, perfectly suited for Vita and available for free right on it's release day on PS+, WOW!. Gameplay, game design mechanics, depth and the overall fun factor and replayability are just amazing. I've been playing it for the last week non-stop and I just can't put it down, even after killing mom I still continue, constant challenge, perma-death, ever changing randomly generated levels, tons and tons of different items and just overall very unique gaming experience. I rank this along Spelunky as the best games you can get on your Vita for neverending source of hardcore fun. 10/10 Expand

This game is a masterpiece of indie games, this first began as a small game using the flash engine, now, it's much bigger. If you have a PS Vita, I really recommend you get this game. It requires skill to play the game, so newbies may die quickly, but when you get more skilled, then you're ready for what the game really has to offer. Lastly, the biggest flaw to me is that the game is very religiously offensive to God, the Bible, demons, and You Know Who, I really dare not speak his name. If you can ignore that, the game is very fun and amazing. Expand

I didn't knew about this game, other than it was "the other game" made by the Super Meat Boy dev - a game that I played and enjoyed a lot no the 360. So, when I got this for free on PS Plus, I couldn't imagine that I'd be playing my personal game of the year...

It's just an outstanding game, with brilliant level design and a gameplay to match the greatness and uniqueness of all the game. Its theme is provocative, that's a fact, but at the same time, it's the game's charm. So, as long as you're note oversensitive or overreligous, I think it would not be enough to detract you from the overall experience.

To tell you the truth, the game uniqueness comes from carefully selected patterns and experiences of other games. At first you may look at it an infinite 16-bit Zelda dungeon, then you understand that it is always a twin-stick shooter at the very core - but it's precisely the blend of all this gameplay staples (zelda, twin-stick, permadeth/roguelike) that make the game shine by its own merits.

Its replay value is what makes the game a 10 (and not an 8-9). The item variation couples with the randomly generated maps, make each run a new adventure, and it's easy to get hooked in a loop of wanting to see new item, unlocking new characters, challenge new bosses...!

    Truly a masterpiece.

It proves you don't need flashy graphics or a team of 100's to produce a game that is fun and worth playing. I've played this game over and over again, it's the same but a little different each time. I always look forward to entering a gold room and seeing what item I will find. The boss battles are actually fun and the enemies are imaginative and varied and need to be approached in different ways although those skull things with the extending necks that you can only harm when the neck is extended are annoying. The Binding of Isaac Rebirth is my go-to game when I want something familiar but new. Detach yourself from the subject matter and it's great dungeon-crawler with lots of replayability.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is a retro stylized, bullet hell shooter. It uses random elements to change enemies, maxes, power-ups and bosses. I can only assume that if you are reading this, you are already aware of the game and just need some opinions on the product.

It looks and feels just like the PC version, with a few obvious problems that keep it from getting a perfect score. For starters, the controls can become wonky at times, even using the twin sticks, there has been a few times Isaac would shoot in a direction I didn't want him to, this can be alleviated using the Vita's buttons instead, but makes shooting overall harder.

On the topic of controls, pills and some powerups require you to touch the screen, which distracts from the overall gameplay. Meanwhile, R1 is completely unused.

The game also suffers from slow downs depending on how full the screen is. Although some players will see this as an advantage, not a hinderance.

Overall, it's not the best port.

The most disgusting game I've ever had the pleasure of dying a lot in. While every death sends you back to the start and takes away all your power ups the randomized dungeons keep things fresh. However there is still a feeling of disappointment every time you get far and then die at the hands of a new tough boss.

Yet despite that the game manages to stay very fun and addicting. You'll die and lose progress a lot, but there's always something to pull you back in. The most fascinating thing about the game though is it's mature subject matter. It touches on some dark stuff, and the enemies you'll encountered are twisted, gross abominations that fit the themes well. However despite all of this there's a sense of dark humor here that keep things from getting too heavy.

Overall this is an excellent game. One that will say on my Vita for a very long time as I try to unlock all of the characters and maybe one day see one the endings. It's brutal and not for the faint of heart, but it's also incredibly rewarding even in the saddest of defeats. I may never make it to an ending, but I'll always have a blast trying.

In my opinion, it's the best game for the vita but definitively not for everyone because of the theme. This game is really addicting and it's always fun to start a new game to find out what combinaison of items you will get and what new item/combos you will discover.

Crossing my fingers to have the afterbirth DLC available on the vita as well.

Now Binding of Isaac: Rebirth has been patched on Vita so that the framerate rarely drops, this is a perfect game for passing many, many hours of your life. Also, for anyone concerned about trophy glitches (some of them used to be broken), I can confirm that I've received the Platinum trophy by playing on Vita alone.

This was my most expected game of this year. Not for any other reason, but because the only reason I did not play the original Binding of Isaac was because it was a very portable game, on not so portable devices. That game, on my vita, seemed like a match made in Heaven. And then the clouds unrolled and from the rays of Eden - Rebirth.
Useless drama aside, I love this game. I love it and

Useless drama aside, I love this game. I love it and enjoy it so much, I can't even begin to review it. I just have to write something down to let people know. It all boils down to this:

If you like creepy games with very unsettling themes, that are challanging, very replayable and beckon to the olden days of gaming, where you have to think, write down and experiment to achieve greatness, you are going to enjoy The Binding of Isaac.
Other than that, it's not that different from the original. It's the same, but better. The controls feel smoother, there is more content than ever and a fresh, new look.
The game now uses a pixelated sprite look. It works, though it's quite unessessary. It could have been clear all the same - it brings nothing to the mood or gameplay. On the Vita I find it even more aggrovating, because the sprites almost look crisp and clear - it's like having minor pixelisation of normal models.
Gameplay is as solid as always, offering countless hours of exploiting, exploring and exploding fun. Everything I say beyond this point may ruin another player's game. The thing I will say is - boycot walkthroughs and guides. They can only ruin the fun.
One thing I kind of dislike is the new soundtrack. The old had more life to it. I still have tracks from the original OST on my MP3 player, but I can't find anything of that worth in Rebirth. This time around the OST is more atmospheric and less musical. This is a double edged blade, so whatever floats your boat.
The story and concept are absurd and inappropriate as always, but that is one of the things about this game. You either love it or hate it. I am fascinated by it.
I love this game. But in the end of the day, people either love it or hate it. There is more to love about it than to hate, in my opinion. It offers great gameplay and massive replayability - which for a portable game should be a priority. I recommend this game to everyone who think they can handle it. It's certainly worth a try.

A twisted, sad little nightmare that I love and will keep playing for years.

Enemies change and scale up very quickly as you delve deeper into Isaacs' basement, so if you choose to skip past getting one,
