If you're looking for an average to good shooter for your PSVita, and you've already spent a good amount of hours with both Resogun and Sine Mora, then Soldner X2 Final Prototype is the right choice.

Buttery smooth and arresting visuals, but light on substance.

Soldner-X 2: Final Prototype and its DLC The Last Chapter provide a wonderful trip down memory lane for the more mature gamers out there, but the penalty for that is that the game flaunts its influences to the detriment of its own personality.

This is a great little shooter that has aged well considering it’s over five years old, and actually feels more at home on Vita than it did on PlayStation 3.

It follows rather than leads, but Soldner-X 2 is a decent if unspectacular entrant in the genre.

The game is $10, or $13 if you get it bundled with the DLC, and it can be completed in only an hour or so without giving you a reason to go back to it. At the same time, the gameplay is frantic and fast-paced, and it can a lot of fun to shoot down hordes of alien spaceships.

A serviceable shooter that lacks the ambition or willing to take risks that make its contemporaries stand out.

Soldner X-2 was an enjoyable experience, even if it was short. The gameplay is fun and the adaptive difficulty really makes the game great.

I appreciate that Soldner X-2 was released for the Vita and fills a niche for the system. However, it’s still hard to recommend this game except to the most hardcore of shmup fans with a Vita.

Soldner-X 2: Final Prototype is fine as a Vita game. There are better shoot-em-ups out there for the handheld though, and I could only recommend this to the SHMUP diehards. The levels are a tad too long for a handheld game which holds it back somewhat, and unfortunately it doesn't do much to push the genre forward.

A game so dominated by the derivative is hard to recommend, especially on a platform that includes Resogun, Luftrausers, and Velocity 2X, all of which bring a fresh take to one of the least fresh genres.

Rock solid controls with a couple of ships to use and weapons to level up through judicious management of them, and a good variety of enemies and bosses combine to create a fun shooter. Hard to find secrets and hard to conquer challenges which can unlock a new ship and new weapons also increase the replayability of this very reasonably priced game. Full Review »
