Bottomline, Thymesia does not stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the giants of the genre, but it’s a great game in its own right. Though it falters some in areas like presentation, story, and level design, the combat and upgrade systems are a lot of fun, even if the enemy variety gets to feeling a little thin by the end. Personally, I hope we see a lot more from Overboard Studios and Corvus in the future as there is a lot of potential to be realized yet.

A welcome change of scenery to the faster strain of Soulslikes, Thymesia gets straight to the point of sword and claw without lasting any longer than necessary.

It is a little rough around the edges, which is to be expected from a small team and backed by an indie publisher. Stick with Thymesia however and you’ll make some good memories with it, hopefully with some care down the line to refine the experience.

Thymesia does more than enough to make its way out of the shadow of Bloodborne. It offers some fun levels to go around killing enemies in, and the combat is fast-paced, responsive, and most importantly, a lot of fun. Even its skill tree has some great ideas. This might not be the game for those who don’t like a challenge, but for those who do, Thymesia is excellent.

If you can handle the corners that were cut due to the budget, then Thymasia’s combat system is worth it all on its own. The game’s intriguingly dark setting and the exquisitely dark theme are more than good enough to pay attention to as well. There are certainly things that the development team could do with a sequel if this generates enough revenue to build on the foundations that they’ve created, but the earnestness that went into making this one distinctive from the other “Souls clones” is worthwhile either way.

The fact that Thymesia is developed by a very small group of people with a very limited budget and in a very challenging genre, earns them enough credit to give their game a try and set them up for their future projects.

Thymesia is a humble indie soulsborne that, despite its marked inspirations and forced comparisons with giants like Bloodborne, manages to bring some other details to the genre. It lags behind in many aspects, but it also manages to attract attention through frenetic and fun combat.

The soundtrack is very good. The level design is not complex as in dark souls games. Even though it was a short journey I liked the story and everything in the game. I had fun while playing it. I can only criticize the game for getting too much inspiration from the original souls games to the point of losing its own identity. Full Review »

The hit boxes are atrocious, to put it decently, dodge is something you have to upgrade and doesn't always work, enemy lock-on is so tuned up, that if you dodge their attack, they just turn toward where your dodge is gonna stop and smash on you, they'll negate you hitting them by giving you a 3-5 hit combo, and while they hit you 50-100 points each time, even on level 12 with strength up to 8, you only hit like 4HP....each enemy has 2 health bars, you only have one....enemy types are not varied.....overall the game just sucks and I'm ashamed that I even spent my hard earned money on this game....yep, I'm ashamed I spent $30 on this garbage.....it does have beautiful graphics tho and an awesome soundtrack, and sound effects....they had great ideas and a game that could've actually worked out, had they done a better job in development.....Don't waste your money on this garbage, and instead, just wait for Team Ninja or FromSoftware to release one of their titles, because no one will ever do it better then them....noble try but it fails miserably Full Review »
