I really wanted to like Themisia. I do, to a point, but there is so much wrong with the game that it’s hard to recommend. Things I like:
-When the combat works, it feels great. It has some interesting mechanics.
-Music is interesting and it works well. -The aesthetic is great. -A lot more polished than I thought a lower budget game would have been. While not amazing, it definitely doesn’t

-A lot more polished than I thought a lower budget game would have been. While not amazing, it definitely doesn’t look bad.

    Things I don’t like:
-Inconsistent difficulty. Lots of easy enemies throughout the areas, only to run into an enemy with as much health as a boss. It’s jarring and ruins the flow of the game.
-Odur. He’s the first boss in the game and he is unnecessarily difficult. Your character hasn’t gotten a chance to level up enough. They need to patch the fight.
-Bosses in general have way too much life. Adding a whole second phase to the fights (with a new health bar) really sucks the fun out of the fight and really isn’t necessary.
-Level design itself needs work. The levels are a mixture of Blighttown from Dark Souls and Valley of Defilement from Demon’s Souls.
-Dodging is terrible. It can feel clunky, like something out of a Naughty Dog game. Your character does some weird spin move when dodging enemies he is locked onto and it messes with the timing.
-Leveling up is very slow and very unrewarding. Maybe if the leveling up system was more like Bloodborne and less like Sekiro, it would have made the game a lot more enjoyable.
    -Deflecting is inconsistent.
-If you exit the area you are in, and return “home,” you have to start the level over again.
-No fast traveling to visited beacons (bonfires).
-Your character does very little damage to enemies, while enemies deal a great amount of damage to you. It’s really inconsistent.
-The skill tree idea isn’t right for this game and they should not have used it.
-The inputs don’t always work. Games in the Souls genre really need precise controls. In Thymesia, you often press a button just to have nothing happen. You often deflect an attack just to have it not work. It’s infuriating to die because of poor inputs.

Overall, Themesia isn’t a horrible game but it certainly isn’t great, either. They have created something interesting but it needs a lot of work and a lot of tweaking. They need to balance the difficulty better. They don’t give you enough resources to properly progress through the game. I think a lot of people are going to find the bosses to be too much. It’s a difficult game, but unlike a FromSoftware game, it is difficult for all the wrong reasons. I really do hope they can fix the game so it is more enjoyable. Everyone will have their own opinions, but with so many better games in the genre, and with the inconsistencies in the game, I can’t justify giving this game anything above a 6/10 in its current state. Some people don’t seem to understand that when a developer tries to copy a FromSoftware game, that’s what people are going to compare it to. It’s not a hard concept to understand.

Some people need to f*cking understand that only a few developers in the entire industry can keep up with from software's work , not to mention an indie dev , stop comparing this game with another one and rate it on it's own The game is good

Man I really wanted to like this game but it's just a mediocre "soulslike" and this point this sub-genre has become way too oversaturated especially in the AA and indie market. The combat is the most solid part of the game and everything else falls by the wayside. This literally just felt like a tech demo. The game is also very short you complete the whole campaign in 4-5 hours. But if you're a souls simp then this is for you. Expand

A very very difficult game. I don't enjoy it (I am playing it now). For comparison, I already have finished all 3 soul games, bloodborn and the Elden ring, as well as almost 100 other games with playstation consoles. So, I am not something like a beginner. Does it live up? No. but does any "souls like" ever do? It was okay for what it was. A copy cat Souls game. Good mechanics and decent bosses and areas.

Taking into account being a recent studio (as far as I know), the game mechanics and all the technical part are good. However, the game fails to create the setting and hook us with item options and, mainly, the story.

Thymesia makes us feel like the soulslike genre is completely played out already. A poor and needless Bloodborne substitute. No substance, little style. [Issue#19, p.81]

Thymesia is one of those games that you should take its reviews with a grain of salt because it's an obviously clunky game yet its combat can be super-satisfying for the very specific kinds of gamers that it's targeting. Everyone else will probably find it too irritating to play.

Thymesia is a game that show’s the developer’s potential, but doesn’t reach the heights of its opening promise. While the combat is fast paced and fun, it is marred by hitbox and timing issues, and the story and lore lack depth to draw you into the mystery of Thymesia.
