While it deems itself a "Souls-like", it is absolutely not even close to being decent enough to be apart of the genre. Absolute trash in every way, the only motivation for playing is to laugh at it. If you are going to make a low budget game it better be amazing to play. But they made a low budget game that is unpolished and also plays like trash. I should fine you for wasting my time, thank god this was "free" on PS plus. I'd rather replay BB/DS3 a 1000 times than waste any more of my time with this "game".

Budget soulslike that becomes more irritating the more you play it. Made it to the final area and then just deleted it out of sheer annoyance. The enemies feel over-tuned and the two health bar mechanic becomes tiresome, it isn't too long which I suppose is a plus given the clunky gameplay but to be honest, I'm really sorry I bothered with this one at all - 1 star

I really wanted to like Themisia. I do, to a point, but there is so much wrong with the game that it’s hard to recommend. Things I like:
-When the combat works, it feels great. It has some interesting mechanics.
-Music is interesting and it works well. -The aesthetic is great. -A lot more polished than I thought a lower budget game would have been. While not amazing, it definitely doesn’t

-Music is interesting and it works well.
    -The aesthetic is great.
-A lot more polished than I thought a lower budget game would have been. While not amazing, it definitely doesn’t look bad.

    Things I don’t like:
-Inconsistent difficulty. Lots of easy enemies throughout the areas, only to run into an enemy with as much health as a boss. It’s jarring and ruins the flow of the game.
-Odur. He’s the first boss in the game and he is unnecessarily difficult. Your character hasn’t gotten a chance to level up enough. They need to patch the fight.
-Bosses in general have way too much life. Adding a whole second phase to the fights (with a new health bar) really sucks the fun out of the fight and really isn’t necessary.
-Level design itself needs work. The levels are a mixture of Blighttown from Dark Souls and Valley of Defilement from Demon’s Souls.
-Dodging is terrible. It can feel clunky, like something out of a Naughty Dog game. Your character does some weird spin move when dodging enemies he is locked onto and it messes with the timing.
-Leveling up is very slow and very unrewarding. Maybe if the leveling up system was more like Bloodborne and less like Sekiro, it would have made the game a lot more enjoyable.
    -Deflecting is inconsistent.
-If you exit the area you are in, and return “home,” you have to start the level over again.
-No fast traveling to visited beacons (bonfires).
-Your character does very little damage to enemies, while enemies deal a great amount of damage to you. It’s really inconsistent.
-The skill tree idea isn’t right for this game and they should not have used it.
-The inputs don’t always work. Games in the Souls genre really need precise controls. In Thymesia, you often press a button just to have nothing happen. You often deflect an attack just to have it not work. It’s infuriating to die because of poor inputs.

Overall, Themesia isn’t a horrible game but it certainly isn’t great, either. They have created something interesting but it needs a lot of work and a lot of tweaking. They need to balance the difficulty better. They don’t give you enough resources to properly progress through the game. I think a lot of people are going to find the bosses to be too much. It’s a difficult game, but unlike a FromSoftware game, it is difficult for all the wrong reasons. I really do hope they can fix the game so it is more enjoyable. Everyone will have their own opinions, but with so many better games in the genre, and with the inconsistencies in the game, I can’t justify giving this game anything above a 6/10 in its current state. Some people don’t seem to understand that when a developer tries to copy a FromSoftware game, that’s what people are going to compare it to. It’s not a hard concept to understand.

In my opinion, Thymesia is a better souls like than Elden Ring. ER is overall a better game, but this title takes the original Dark Souls credo of “Hard but fair” and does that better than any of the main line souls games. If your bloodborne itch needs a scratch this is a game for you. Excellent, fun and creative gameplay mechanics with dark and twisted environments. The developer walks a fine line between it not being overly difficult for a soulsborne game but also enjoyable even for a souls veteran. Well worth your time and money

Ultimately, Thymesia is far from yet another indie studio trying its hand at imitating FromSoftware’s work. While it undoubtedly borrows a lot from the game that influenced it the most—Bloodborne—Thymesia does more than enough to end up being little more than a pale imitation. It has quite a few great ideas that turn combat into a fun, fast-paced affair, and the story premise is quite clever. Even its story trappings of a plague in a medieval city play quite well into the core gameplay, with the Reave ability being especially fun to play with.

The overall vibe of the game itself tries to emulate Bloodborne, but does so in a completely pathetic way - there's no depth, subtlety, and most designs scream of the ultimate edgelord's wet dream.

While the combat itself is fast paced and keeps you engaged (which is a positive point), the convoluted fighting system contributes to the overall feel of messiness. There's no doubt in my mind that it could have been streamlined into something actually great, but wasn't. Something of that pace HAS to be extremely polished, clear, and consistent, but it's not the case here.

Also it must to be mentioned that some early bosses have movesets and attack timings that can be recognized very easily as being copied straight from Sekiro - specifically from Lady Butterfly, Isshin, and Jinsuke Saze (Ashina Elite).

Finally, the level design is quite poor. Areas are somewhat closed and visually very repetitive, with a lack of distinct features to help orient yourself or give a sense of progression.

Not a complete disaster, but I don't see any point playing more of this at all. All it does is remind me of better games that I could (should) be playing instead.

The game plays very similary to Sekiro in terms of gameplay, there is only one play-style (with very limited changes) and it forces you to adapt to it. It feels fluid and great. When I finally got the hang off the parry/dodge/feather system I felt like an unbeatable monster (until of course some big sword guy arrived) and IT FELT GREAT.
The game looks alright. It clearly inspired from Bloodborne. Overall it looks pretty, it feels good to look at, but it won't be the graphics that you are going to remember this game for. However I must mention that whenever I stumbled upon some really messed up **** (like a hidden street covered in piled up corpses of common people) it was amazing. I wish they went for a more gory world.
The bosses were great most of the time, weirdly even the puzzle ones. Unfortunately however the last boss didn't work for me. The concept was great, but the fight just wasn't satisfying. Don't want to get more into it in order to avoid spoilers.

Overall the game is a strong 8. It has it faults sometimes (repetitive enemies, map design at the beginning, etc.), but it still holds up very well.

Thymesia is a game that show’s the developer’s potential, but doesn’t reach the heights of its opening promise. While the combat is fast paced and fun, it is marred by hitbox and timing issues, and the story and lore lack depth to draw you into the mystery of Thymesia.
