I really enjoyed this game. I’ve been a fan of the developers ever since I played The Observer, which I really, really enjoyed. They know how to do great, mature story telling and they nailed it again with ‘The Medium’. The fact I’ve seen other reviews trash it for being boring and having no multiplayer is an absolute joke. Maybe do some research before buying the game, which is obviously a narrative driven, horror game with a nice little twist. The dual worlds mechanic is done great here, and at times the world(especially the dark side), looks fantastic. I was really impressed with the sound in all departments with this game. Great voice acting. Awesome ambient soundtrack. Beautiful sound design. I’m a huge fan of the amazing artist Beksiński which you can tell they are very inspired by, so I became an even bigger fan of this game. My complete unbiased review of this game is an 8.5. I love these developers. Support them! Always support great developers! Expand

I don't understand mixed reviews here. The game is something else, is not a fast-paced shooter in which you have to kill hordes of zombies. This game is slow, but it tells you the story. It's more like reading a book, of course not every single page is perfect, however, the ending is impressive. The artwork is amazing and references to Beksinski's art make this game very unique. What could be better? Definitely puzzle-solving, the game was too easy, at least for me. Did I enjoy the game? Sure I did! I would like to play the second part as Thomas! Expand

Layers if Fear was very good. Observer is great and massively underrated, especially the System Redux version for PS5. The story here is top notch. It will come off like a walking simulator in a lot of aspects, but if you allow yourself to be absorbed by the game and it's story, there is far more to it than meets the eye. I really can't express how impressed I am with what they gave us here. It is a game that is part of various genres from Horror, Mystery, Suspense, Supernatural, Drama, and a dash of action at the right times. I'm not sure if I've ever played a game that felt more perfect to end up as a movie on the big screen. In fact, it feels like a movie script that was handed to a video game developer to work with. It's just so consuming as a story where you get that same page Turner feeling as reading a novel and constantly wanting to know what happens next.
You feel, as the protagonist, equal parts Medium and Detective...and the Horror feels very reminiscent in many ways of the movie "Jeepers Creepers" and most definitely is creepy and creates extremely intense moments of horror in a VERY Disturbing sense.
I'm giving it a rating of 9...but more realistically, if I could be as accurate as I wanted, I'd say it deserves (in my personal opinion), a 9.4 out of 10. And no, I don't easily give scores this high. I currently own 69 pS5 games and this is one of a handful that tops a 9/10. Again, this is my personal thoughts and opinion, as I figure most gamers will see it along the lines of its current Metacritic score. Horror, also, is my favorite genre. I'll add that, outside of Resident Evil Village, The Medium is possibly my favorite game of 2021 to this point. (Not counting Ghosts of Tsushima Directors Cut since it technically came out last year.)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pretty much decent story driven game esp if you like games like Until dawn or The dark picture series.
Graphics are good with decent frame rates on ps5 esp on 4k, sound design is also acceptable. Puzzles have medium difficulty. Overall nice pick

Thus, the developers of "The Medium" managed to bring horror close in a completely different way. I really enjoyed this game and i hate it being referred to as a walking simulator. Which is some catch all insult ppl use when they play a game that doesn't have you constantly killing things.(Layers of fear was much closer to this mock insult then this.)

The story, atmosphere and vivid scenery were are very well done. Not to mention it has a great soundtrack. I really enjoyed this

I really enjoyed this game, my one complaint is that there are moments were stealth is necessary and even some chase scenes, but there just aren't enough of them. I feel that if they were even just a few more it would heighten the experience and raise the tension.

{Side note}, I don't see how anyone could play this game and not see the potential this studio has for making a silent hill game. And just because this game doesn't have combat doesn't mean that if they made a silent hill game, it wouldn't either.

The Medium on PS5 I would say that it is the definitive version of the game, since Bloober Team dedicated more time to the game and it has all updates included. The first time I played, was on the Xbox Series X and since then, the game has been updated. But I did not replay it, instead I jumped on the PS5 Version.

For some the story might be a slow burn, but I really loved it. I hope there's a sequal. Expand

I'm really glad that I didn't listen to some of the reviews and decided to play this myself. It's not a hack n slash game or some rage-inducing soulsbourne game and you shouldn't treat it as such. Loved almost every moment of this game. Great story, a simple gameplay that reminds me of the PS1's Resident Evil.
The graphics of the scneary are amazing. The models from the peoples couls be better, but don't take away the amazing experience from the game. Definetly worth the try.
Hope the sequel arrices some time.

I just got this game for Christmas from my kids and I can say this game is dope as hell. The DualSense really adds an immersion to the game and the game on the PS5 looks great. Some long load times are present (strange for a next gen only game) but it doesn't take away from the game itself. It has Silent Hill vibes through and through. A must play for the horror fan.

All in all, The Medium is a good game, but not revolutionary and certainly not the new king of the genre. The story and atmosphere will stay with you long after finishing it, but the gameplay has a lot of room for improvement. If you prioritize a good story and a masterfully crafted atmosphere The Medium will not disappoint.

Despite some impressive DualSense implementation, the blemishes embedded into The Medium's gameplay and narrative still show on PS5. While The Medium is an intriguing horror game, it certainly isn't a great one.

With each game they release, Bloober Team continues to make strides, and The Medium is another such step. It has an intriguing story with intriguing characters. The game also has a nifty mix of old and new gameplaying elements.
