Quite nice game with some novel mechanics, however lack of budget is visible.

It can be frustratingly difficult to keep playing when a death feels as cheap as it does in the medium. For a PS5 release the loading times is atrocious and really makes you not miss last gen. Also not having the option to turn off/toggle the sound coming out of the dualsense is a poorly made decision by the developers. The game has its moments when it truly shines, but they’re few and far between Expand

I basically agree with all of the other bad reviews: character is super slow, game randomly decides when you can and can't run, "puzzles" aren't even really puzzles because they are so easy until maybe a couple at the very end, voice acting is pretty terrible, frame rate is too low and is jerky at times and you can see the screen tearing, camera angles and character control are atrocious and old-school, etc. I rented the game but I would have been disappointed had I actually paid money for this. Good game but becomes repetitive really fast. It should play more with the two worlds challenge the players more or to give Them multiple choices to perform the same thing... The way it was designed made this two worlds existance kind of irrelevant, as it is a straight up scripted line to resolve the puzzles.

I really enjoyed this game. I’ve been a fan of the developers ever since I played The Observer, which I really, really enjoyed. Maybe do some research before buying the game, which is obviously a narrative driven, horror game with a nice little twist. The dual worlds mechanic is done great here, and at times the world(especially the dark side), looks fantastic. I was really impressed with the sound in all departments with this game. Great voice acting. Awesome ambient soundtrack. Beautiful sound design. I’m a huge fan of the amazing artist Beksiński which you can tell they are very inspired by, so I became an even bigger fan of this game. My complete unbiased review of this game is an 8.5. I don't understand mixed reviews here. The game is something else, is not a fast-paced shooter in which you have to kill hordes of zombies. This game is slow, but it tells you the story. It's more like reading a book, of course not every single page is perfect, however, the ending is impressive. The artwork is amazing and references to Beksinski's art make this game very unique. Layers if Fear was very good. Observer is great and massively underrated, especially the System Redux version for PS5. The story here is top notch. It will come off like a walking simulator in a lot of aspects, but if you allow yourself to be absorbed by the game and it's story, there is far more to it than meets the eye. I really can't express how impressed I am with what they gave us here. It is a game that is part of various genres from Horror, Mystery, Suspense, Supernatural, Drama, and a dash of action at the right times. I'm not sure if I've ever played a game that felt more perfect to end up as a movie on the big screen. In fact, it feels like a movie script that was handed to a video game developer to work with. It's just so consuming as a story where you get that same page Turner feeling as reading a novel and constantly wanting to know what happens next.
You feel, as the protagonist, equal parts Medium and Detective...and the Horror feels very reminiscent in many ways of the movie "Jeepers Creepers" and most definitely is creepy and creates extremely intense moments of horror in a VERY Disturbing sense.
I'm giving it a rating of 9...but more realistically, if I could be as accurate as I wanted, I'd say it deserves (in my personal opinion), a 9.4 out of 10. And no, I don't easily give scores this high. I currently own 69 pS5 games and this is one of a handful that tops a 9/10. Again, this is my personal thoughts and opinion, as I figure most gamers will see it along the lines of its current Metacritic score. Horror, also, is my favorite genre. I'll add that, outside of Resident Evil Village, The Medium is possibly my favorite game of 2021 to this point. (Not counting Ghosts of Tsushima Directors Cut since it technically came out last year.)

There is practically no combat in this game. All you do in this game is walk and watch cutscenes. This isn't even a game, this is a movie.

$50 is too expensive for a game that took me only 7 hours to beat. I would have beaten this game faster had I not fell asleep halfway through the game out of boredom. The puzzles are trash. The animations are PS2 quality. Speaking of animations, the developers were too cheap and lazy to make the protagonist use the tools and interact with objects in real-time. The split-screen stuff is annoying. The story is garbage. The camera angles are horrendous. The player movement is sluggish and the protagonist runs too slow.

There is no multiplayer. So once you beat the story, this game will go back to the shelf and collect dust. Charging $50 for a game with no replay value is a cashgrab. There isn't even any split-screen multiplayer, despite the presence of the dual-reality split-screen thing. This goes to show how greedy and lazy the developers are. I don't recommend this "game" at all.

I really enjoyed this game, my one complaint is that there are moments were stealth is necessary and even some chase scenes, but there just aren't enough of them. I feel that if they were even just a few more it would heighten the experience and raise the tension.

{Side note}, I don't see how anyone could play this game and not see the potential this studio has for making a silent hill game. And just because this game doesn't have combat doesn't mean that if they made a silent hill game, it wouldn't either.

Luckily enough it is free with certain levels of PS+ so I downloaded a copy and started it up and this is where it all starts to fall apart. To begin with, loading times like this are not acceptable anymore, not on these new current gen machines with their super fast solid state drives. Even on the PS4 this would be a long loading time. When you finally do get to play you'll find some of the slowest gameplay with terrible camera angles I've seen in a long time. The only reason this doesn't get terrible marks is because buried under all that junk is the story and premise of a good game. It's just been badly made. Everything you do takes forever. Slow loading, snail paced walking, slightly more sprightly snail running. I've started calling it The Tedium it's so boring.
