    This game is a casual RPG where you play the role of a cat in a world clouded in mystery. Humans are long gone with all that remains of them is a robot civilization with little record of the past. Run, jump and defend yourself (eventually) as you discover the hidden past of this futuristic world. The game took about 8 hours which includes mild to moderate exploring.     What a beautiful game. Both visually, from a story telling perspective and from its presentation. A game where you play as a cat with a backpack, with no spoken dialogue and no big name developer might put some people off. But I had the most wonderful time playing this. I literally loved every minute of it. It's such a charming game that you cant help but fall in love with it. The Sci-FiWhat a beautiful game. The Sci-Fi aesthetic really works for this game as it creates a mystery for both the player and the feline character you play. You're never quite sure about certain things although you somewhat recognise them.
    all in all I really do think that this game is well deserving of a 10, because I cannot find a fault with it. I've tried but just couldn't think of anything. If you're on the fence about this game, don't be, it will charm you and you'll walk away feeling glad that you have played it.    … Expand

    Beauty in simplicity. Everything about this game is just wonderful. The gameplay isn't complex and that works because you're a cat. It's very realistic in that way. The environment, effects, and animations are so well done. The music and sounds draw you into the world and don't overdo it so it feels more like an experience than a game.

    The way the cat moves is so realistic. I was sad you couldn't just run and jump anywhere like a cat but the mechanic they created for jumping works well enough. My only real negative is the running feels a little slow like it's a movie framerate. That's just the way it is though. I even like the fact you can act like a cat with the robots and they all have different reactions.

    The characters in the world and the story is really interesting. It's not complex or entirely original but it's unique because it's experienced from the perspective of a cat and your companion robot. Parts of the story do involve the cat getting hurt and the sounds and animations are very realistic so be aware of that.

    There are puzzles and little side missions but overall the game is short if you want it to be. I replayed this a couple of times for the things I missed and a speed run. It's a little easy but it really is more of an experience than a challenge. Some of the later parts are a little harder but once you figure out what you're supposed to do it gets easy. I really enjoyed playing it and yeah it's short but it was good. I really hope they make more in this story.    … Expand

    What's better than a cat being the main character of the game and being able to save a city and bring life back to everyone. The puzzles and the storyline of the story were very interesting and not boring at all, as in some places you felt like a cat, especially this game. Recommended for all people who love cats.

    One of the best games I've played this year, keeps you entertained from start to finish and just flows extremely well. Emotional and very solid story.

    I guess I’m the only one who didn’t like it. The physics are awful. The controls felt old and janky to me. The graphics weren’t that special. I never enjoyed playing it. I truly think this is the most overrated game of the year. I do love that it is free and bold new direction.

    Brilliant,creative,interesting,fun,gorgeous,polished start to finish. Kena and this both indies btw were games that felt PS5 worthy

    Incredible. The robot playing the guitar made out of a gas can with a hole in it is worth the money and more. Sure the game could be longer but I think it had a story to tell and told it in the amount of time it needed. Also you play as a funny cat.

    Quick background on me the reviewer, I tend to like single player games that is heavy on narrative the most. I also play a lot of racing games and use to play multiplayer games in my high school days but now that it's hard for me and my friends to find a good time to link up so now I hardly play any.     I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this game and the story was touching. I think the length was just right since this game didn't have to many features so any longer than 8hrs, I probably would of got bored.

    I was able to play this game for free so I'm not sure how much they are charging for everyone else. If it's more than 30 dollars I would hold off until it goes on sale due to the length.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. i have never thought, that i would like a game, where i play as a cat, but Bluetwelve somehow did it. Its refreshive gameplay and its simple, but intriguing story does a good enough job. I appreaciated the details, for example, when you are in the midtown and go to the elevator and see the area, where have you been an hour ago, but my favorite example of this is, when you are in the control room and if you look out of the window, you can see all the areas you've been to. It is at that moment, where i realize, how the areas are quite small, but because i was a cat it all seemed huge. The game is worth to play, especially if you are looking to relax and get immersed into a cyberpunk world.… Expand

    Stray is by no means a bad game. It stars a world built excellently and a soundtrack that kept me interested. My main issue with the game is there feels like there is no trust in the player to experience the game in the same way a Journey or Abzu would be experienced.     Beyond that, this game feels weirdly unfinished. A lack of animation for simple things like putting on a robe, walking up stairs, and rounding corners (and other weird cat bugs) had me scratching my head. I also thought it was odd how many people (robots) were willing to lay down their lives for a stray cat.
    5/10, pretty middle of the road game for me. When the dust settles and people start seeing this game for what it really is, I have a feeling a lot of people will agree.    … Expand

    The gameplay is very basic and the game is very short. Did enjoy a few parts of it. And i have no clue why there is a speedrun trophy in this game makes no sense.

    It's Annapurna Interactive. Phony, irredeemable, boring, unengaging, indy crap. They think they are the A24 of gaming and it's incredibly annoying to have to share space with these people at gaming events.

    C’est exactement ce que j’attendais de l’expérience Stray. Voir même mieux quand on se rend compte de son statut d’indé français. Le chat, le lore, l’ambiance, la musique, la durée de vie (non ce n’est pas trop court pour un papa gamer de 3 enfants!) l’ambition ou la narration. À part un mode photo, TOUT est là, tout est juste, tout est beau, respectable, parfois même bluffant (animationC’est exactement ce que j’attendais de l’expérience Stray. Voir même mieux quand on se rend compte de son statut d’indé français. Le chat, le lore, l’ambiance, la musique, la durée de vie (non ce n’est pas trop court pour un papa gamer de 3 enfants!) l’ambition ou la narration.     If you are allergic to cats, hate mystery, exploration and a good atmosphere in video games, don’t play Stray. Otherwise, you’ve probably already beaten it. It’s a rare occasion to get a title such as this. And if it looks like something you might enjoy, that’s likely because you most surely would.

    Stray makes the most of its choice of protagonist early on, really allowing you to do all the things a typical cat would do, though it eventually loses sight of that in favour of spotlighting the short story. That’s no cause for hissing, though it does leave the overall experience feeling somewhat like two kittens from different litters forced together. The combination works better than it should, but we’re ultimately left wondering what could’ve resulted if either half of the game had been given enough space to stand alone. [Issue#18, p.70]

    It sounds ridiculous. And maybe it is. But the first ten minutes of Stray broke our heart. We’re a soft-boiled egg when it comes to animals, even when they're completely fictional. A cat who loses his friends and then gets hurt? Enough for an intense feeling of sadness and pity. It is not the challenge, but the experience that is key in this game. You really play Stray for the atmosphere. And that's exactly right.
