What a wonderful surprise. I figured that “Sackboy: A Big Adventure” would eventually release on Playstation Plus and it did. I did not expect much. Wow. I have not seen a level design this creative since “Super Mario 3D” and visuals this visceral since “Tearaway: Unfolded”.

The design and animations are just a joy to see. In some ways, the game world reminds of those classic old cartoons where every objects is alive with movement. One level incorporates the beat from “Uptown Funk”. Maybe it’s the old man gamer in me. I’ve played platformers since the early days of the arcade. There is an enjoyment in the feeling of movement and mastery of timing. Sackboy has all that and lots of secrets to find.

Sackboy himself jumps and moves well on command. Some platformers are just too strict with the timing of jumps, and overestimate not only the reaction time of the player, but also the limits of the players equipment. In a kind of “Dark Souls” lite, you can regain a life after you die by returning to the scene of crime. Difficulty may depend on your skill level. As a platforming veterans, I found myself steamrolling through the early levels with little problem. Some of the challenge is in finding the secret areas. “Super Mario 3” was fantastic about filling out the game map with nooks and crannies to explore. That tradition continues here. Somewhat reminiscent of “Sonic: The Hedghog”, Sackboy can find himself rolling about tubes that connect parts of levels. And finally, the pedigree of “Little Big Planet” is brought into a full 3D world. Just stellar through and through.

I feel a little bad because I gave the PS5 exclusive “Ratchet and Clank: A Rift Apart” a 8/10. I said that a beat em up with guns like Ratchet and Clank can only be so good. So why can a platform be better? It’s because a platformer does not rely on spamming the trigger. A platformer makes you think and strategize and sometimes find the perfect path and other times resort to brute force. A great platformer can reach the highest of heights. Sackboy nearly gets there. The adventure is a bit limited by repetition, much how “Super Mario World” was a generational leap in graphics and gameplay yet still felt lesser compared to “Super Mario 3”. More is not always better.

More costumes are better, and I give full credit to the developers for putting in the work. The little side challenges are also a nice touch. The game includes multiplayer though I doubt many of the folks on my friends list are interested in this adventure. Still, the option of multiplayer is a nice to have.

All in all, I highly recommend this game. Sackboy may be one of the most overlooked gems this generation. I understand how people felt when the game launched. $70 for a platformer. The PS4 version means there is nothing special for PS5. None of that means anything to me. This is a tight game and you will enjoy it despite yourself.

Superb level design, controls on par with Mario, music that’ll make you sing along (and it’s cleverly integrated with NPC characters on screen), AND game assists to help younger ones keep going. Loads of variety, tonnes of levels and so much co op fun to be had. This is the best PS5 game out there today. Critics don’t know what they’re talking about, again.

Gone are the creative aspects.. sackboy a big adventure is a straight up 3D platforming colectathon and is a change for the better..
Sackbody a big adventure can be played with up to 4 players, here you play as sackboy who sets out to save sackworld from vex… and to do so youll be collecting orbs across a variety of 3d platforming levels in an 11 and a half hour long adventure and it’s a blast from start to finish, so much love and care went into creating sackboy a big adventure that its impossible to go through the entire game without smiling uncontrollably at least once, filled with so much variety in its level design, from straight up platforming, to chase sequences, to well crafed and varied boss battles, to music infused levels, different items that transform the traversal such as a bommerang or a blaster, a grappling hook to swing with.. sackboy a ig adventure is an absolute blast for all ages… my only complaints with this game are for one, super minor.. sackboy is given a bit of a voice here and I don’t like it… I always felt like sackboy was an avatar of myself, and a big adventure takes that away instantly by giving sackboy a voice.. and the biggest complaint hre is just overall a lack of customizable options.. im used to little big planet dumping items on top of you, giving exploration incentive.. and here there just really isn’t much to find to dress yourself up with… that being said though, unlike crash 4, sackboy a big adventure does still give great incentive to explore, there are orbs to find in each level that helps you unlock the new worlds and boss battles, but also there is a currency system so you can purchase cosmetics and costumes in store rather than just having to complete challenges… so you never feel like whats the point if you missed one orb, every orb is individually important, always giving you that feeling of wanting to lookout for secrets..
Needless to say I loved sackboy a big adventure, its better than the little big planet games, it’s a better crash game than crash is.. this spin off series feels so Nintendo in such a good way..
A staple for your PS5 collectiob..
I give Sackboy: A Big Adventure

Story is not important in this genre but, I prefer a better one. it has very good music although i think they could choose better. It's a very good platformer which you can play with your family and I strongly suggest you to play it specially if you liked Little Big Planet series.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure is an isometric 3D platformer game based on the LittleBigPlanet franchise but stripped of the creativity mode. Some people will miss the creativity mode (at least you can still customize Sackboy's appearance with new outfits), but I think this way the game gained what every LittleBigPlanet game before it lacked: cohesion, focus and quality on the campaign mode. Just look at Media Molecule's Dreams, which went full on the creativity aspect but lacks a campaign for players to play through (whatever single player content is included there is an afterthought at best).

This time around there is no big-name actor narrating like in previous LittleBigPlanet games, but there is another in-game character acting as a guide. Sackboy remains silent as always. But the game's antagonist Vex is a great character.

Playing Sackboy is joyful, with colorful environments and solid platforming which becomes more challenging as you advance through the 5 worlds (there is a secret 6th world which is even more challenging), and there are quite a few boss fights. On specific levels you will be given a tool such as a boomerang or flying boots in order to progress. You can always invite other players (party of up to 4 players) to join you, either locally or online. But what annoys me is the game's collectathon aspect. You won't have an issue beating the game and see the credits, but unlocking the secret 6th world and all of its levels requires you to find all of the blue orbs scattered in every level.

Graphically Sackboy isn't anything to write home about, but it's still pleasant to see. A nice upgrade versus the older LittleBigPlanet games is that Sackboy runs at locked 60 fps, providing a smooth playing experience.

The game's soundtrack is awesome, with plenty of nice tunes. There are 5 music-based levels which are tuned to "move" according to the music currently playing. "Moving" includes anything from simple shake of parts of the level to moving platforms and activating jump pads according to the beat.

On PS5 the game makes limited use of the Dualsense, which is a shame. Resolution is a bit higher than 1440p but definitely not full 4K.

Sackboy is easily the best 3D platformer you can buy outside of Nintendo's Mario games. Just play it and you'll enjoy it.

A big departure from the previous 3 little big planet games, for instance no level builder, but a fun platformer. Had a great time playing coop (up to 4 players) and the music levels were really cool, with some unexpected music. Check them out on you tube if your on the fence. Knitted knight trials was also pretty cool and unexpected. Overall significantly better than I thought it would be!

Sackboy is a solid game with the vibe of the originals but in 3D this time around. The controls are way better and the game feels solid. All the warmth of the original two games but with a refreshing playstyle. I thought the 3rd entry in the Little Big Planet series lost a lot of the atmosphere that the original two games created. However this game is a massive recovery for Sackboy and further solidifies him as a PlayStation icon!

Some really amazing voice acting and wonderful characters that bring the story to life.

But much like Spyro the more you play the more intricate the game becomes if you try to find the collectibles, complete the challenges, or hunt the trophies which are the most daunting tasks yet. This dual audience adds to it's charm because whether your goal is just to finish a level or to get a rewarding feeling by doing everything, you get both in one package. Some of the challenges throughout the main game do feel a bit repetitive, but the post game gives a world so challenging it becomes it's own level of fun! I honestly wish the whole game played like the post game world because it clearly showed the developers knew how to make a deep platformer that was the perfect level of challenging and rewarding, but alas, the decision to make this game a dual audience made this impossible.

The story of this game is an absolute delight as well. You play through a Pixar style story with an Oogie-Boogie style villain who's such a delight to go up against. This game also makes use of several popular songs, and while I would have liked a more original soundtrack, some of the remixes or use of lyrical songs were well done. Overall this game is very good, but just barely misses the mark of greatness, but it is a lot of fun to play and I'm glad I picked it up.

Here, the levels can become really frustrating. That frustration lies with the way the movement is designed in the game - it’s not very precise at all, with sackboy rarely landing where you want him to land.
I also found that sackboy would sometimes struggle clinging onto objects and would often bounce off of them, falling to his unfortunate death.
With all that said, and besides it being a controller breaker at times, I had a lot of fun with sackboy and think it’s a great addition to the next gen line-up. Would highly recommend for when you want a break from other bleak games and are looking for some happy vibes.

One of the better couch co-op experiences to come out in the last several years, but I think it's not particularly amazing for solo play. The co-op levels are some of the best designed in the entire game, and the antics of multiplayer make it significantly better than playing alone. This is must have for any platforming fans! It plays great; it looks great; it sounds great and it doesn’t have performance issues. The story is pretty awful and there is huge amount of multiplayer though, as I was hoping for strictly single player. Which it has about 50-50 ratio

Da mal was mit moderner Technik als Triple A wäre schon bombastisch.

I agree with most people when they say the game is a sleeper hit. It is a surprisingly good platformer and has a good amount of challenge to it. There are also no checkpoints through it, which demands near perfection just to complete it, let alone gold medaling it. I will admit, though, getting gold on it does leave you satisfied.
My biggest complaint is definitely related to online play. A friend and I played the whole campaign at it was a total nightmare. Teleporting, glitching, random deaths, etc., were constant. Both of us have 60Mb internet and play together frequently. I do suspect, however, it may be due to crossplay (I was on PS5, they were on PS4). My other complaint has to do with the currency that you buy outfits and emotes with. After completing the game 100% (gold completion on every level, challenge and trial) and even going through most levels an extra time with my friend as host, I was far short of being able to purchase every one of these items. This leads to roughly 8+ hours of tedious farming, as there is no good way to build this currency after the game.
In short... The game is generally fantastic and is truly fun to play, especially in single player. The issues the game has could easily be fixed with patches and if fixed, I could easily give the game an 8.5 or 9.

(**SIDE NOTE... The game does not properly save the non host's high score, making you have to get the high score again**)

    PROS:
-Lots of Little Big Planet charm
-A general good balance of challenge
-Licensed music themed levels are well engineered (audibly, visually and creatively)
    -Runs smooth and looks fantastic

    CONS:
    -Glitchy co-op play
-Tedious currency accumulation at the end
-High score does not transfer correctly when not hosting co-op
    -Disappointing final challenge

    inizieranno elencandoti i punti fatti

The controls feel too imprecise, Sackboy is super-sluggish (I was constantly wishing for a sprint button), the moveset is really limited, your jumps are INCREDIBLY short and combat is annoying because your reach seems to be about 2 millimeters, which, combined with very weird hitboxes and enemies that don't always stick to their familiar patterns, make it way too easy to get hit. Should that happen too often and you die, respawning takes about half an eternity. Also, adding up stuff at the end of the level takes WAY too long and the fact that you can't just skip taking a dumbass photo for every completed level is just ridiculous.

On the plus side, the presentation is very good: The game looks amazing and the music is more than serviceable, if a little forgettable.

So yeah, I'd recommend this mostly to kids/parents. Or if you're really into 3D platformers, you might want to get this on sale, but don't exactly expect a masterpiece on par with the likes of Mario. All in all, Astro's Playroom is the better game and that comes for free with every PS5, soooo...

I mistakenly thought Sackboy: A Big Adventure was just a renaming of the franchise, but after watching some trailers realized there would be some differences.

However, Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a different game entirely, and if Sackboy wasn't featured you'd be forgiven in thinking this game bore no relation.
Gone is Stephen Fry's narration, 2.5D view, scrolling text, creativity and silliness. Here is a mostly -3D 'puzzle' game, that now has voiced characters (Sackboy is now voiced by a child at least when falling) a more childish presentation (fairytale-like rather than narrated and silly), very simplistically designed levels and controls (I'd go as far to say this could be a mobile-game, and more aggressive enemies now over the less threatening enemies of little big planet.

I really can't figure out who Sackboy: A Big Adventure is designed for, it's too childish for adults to particularly enjoy and too challenging for children to enjoy. Too uneventful and dull to be played for the story, and too story-orientated to ignore the story and just focus on trying to solve puzzles.
Therefore I wouldn't know who to recommend this game to.
As previously mentioned to me this game would be at home as a mobile-game you just press jump for 99% of the time, some of the levels barely use the 3d space, with some special moves for certain levels which would work well as dynamic on-screen buttons. Additionally, the mobile-phone price range of ad-free or $5- $10 would suit this game far more than the $70 it retailed at!

If you want a puzzle platformer for the PS5 that is child friendly but challenging, I'd pick Astro's Playroom a million times over this.

However, I am sad to note that this is one of the most boring and mentally tiring games I have ever had the displeasure of playing.

First of all, the pacing of the game is terrible. Sackboy moves at the speed of an average garden snail and a lot of the time platforming feels like you've only just barely made the jump across gaps. The LittleBigPlanet franchise was always a slow experience in where the player was encouraged to collect 'prize bubbles', which gave them items to be used around the game. The game has now turned this style into a painful experience with it's janky controls and slooooooooow gameplay.

Secondly, the level design and aesthetics is also really poor. I remember in the first LBP game every level had a unique quirk to it and they were very interesting to look at. In this game all of the levels seem to blend into one. None of them particularly stick out, and look comparatively bland. If you asked me to name any single level from this game. I couldn't. That is how lacking in variety they are.

To be fair, I didn't I wasn't expecting this game to be a masterpiece BUT I was expecting to gain some sort of satisfaction out of it, having waited 6 years for a new LBP game. There is some fun to be had here, but only if you manually speed through the game at a reasonable pace and get the required amount of orbs to progress (don't even bother torturing yourself to get 100%), or mess about with a few mates.

Seeing all the positive reviews is absolutely maddening. This is why the games industry is getting worse; half-heartedly produced games like these are eaten up by smooth-brains and casuals who praise it despite having barely grasped the concept of critical thinking. I have no idea what demographic this game is supposed to be targeted towards; It's too hard for children, but tonally the game is too childish for adults.

Look, just go play either LBP1 or 2 on PS3, they're infinitely better than this snooze fest. I hate sumo digital so much, and hope Media Molecule come back to developing the series in order to save it. Phew, rant over, time to move on and play better games.

Level and boss design are also extremely pedestrian, the game doesn't do enough with the good ideas it has and way too much with the bad ones (auto-scrollers have never been fun,) and don't even get me started on gatekeeping content behind multiplayer, that garbage was unacceptable when Dead Space 3 did it a decade ago and time has not sweetened the premise.

In short, there is no reason to play this when much better options exist, but there are also worse games out there.

In my opinion this is the worst game in the LBP/sackboy series due to the weird/inconsistent/broken camera angles and aspect ratios.
The game seems obsessed with having the camera at a weird angle where you cannot see what is happening properly - the jump perspective ends up being completely off and this just makes the game unnecessarily frustrating.

If you don't care about collectibles and the like, this game can be completed in a few hours because all levels are super easy unless you care about finding costume pieces or getting a gold medal which is completely pointless unless you care about achievements. It's perfectly possible to complete the whole game without dying once.

The only hard levels are some of the Knitted Knight Trials. Some of those levels have the worst level design I've ever seen in a platforming game. Most of them feel like something a 5 year old could throw together in an hour and I would feel ashamed had I designed those. If they decide to do a sequel, they really need to fire the level designers and hire som better ones who knows what the heck they are doing...

The thing that really pisses me off and really makes this game deserve a 0 is that they have gated 10 levels as multiplayer only, meaning I have no way whatsoever of playing them. The multiplayer was designed by someone incompetent who've never played online before. The only option you have is to create or join a game, in which case you're just dropped into the middle of some random game. There is no way to match make for a specific level, so if there is a specific level you need to complete... well good luck. The multiplayer mode needs to be redesigned from scratch. I didnt pay $70 to be locked out from a large chunk of the content. I would re-fund if I could.
