Rogue Legacy 2 is a captivating, addicting, and truly unforgettable experience. It doesn't just improve on the first game, it renders it wholly obsolete. It's a truly amazing roguelike, one of the best in the industry. The art is beautiful and the combat is buttery smooth. Everyone should play this game. Especially if you love pizza. And who doesn't love pizza?

In many ways, Rogue Legacy 2 aligns with the gold standard of the roguelite category by creating a highly engaging, dare I say addicting, gameplay loop that rewards multiple types of players. Newer players will find enjoyment in its accessibility levers and bite-sized progression while roguelite veterans will enjoy its deeper-than-expected class-based variance. Sure, you probably will die a lot, and you’ll wish to have a greater connection with its world and the characters within; at the end of the day, its flaws are outweighed by the amount of fun that is to be had by experimentation and repetition. My nearly twenty hour experience felt like two hours, and I still itch to return for one more run. Regardless if you’re a PS+ subscriber or not, Rogue Legacy 2 is more than deserving of your time.

The core hook of dying and restarting while progressing just a bit further each time is as solid in Rogue Legacy 2 as it was in the original game. I’d be hard pressed to point out significant differences between the two games, outside of a spruced up presentation and just more content in general, but honestly there wasn’t much to improve on with the original Rogue Legacy, so I can’t really fault the sequel for not deviating too far from the original formula. It’s still a wildly addictive game, and the short bursts of gameplay make it perfect for a few quick rounds, or lengthier play sessions.

Everything you’d want from a Rogue Legacy sequel, and more, this dramatically enriches and expands its genre-defining blueprint to the point of near perfection. [Issue#30, p.99]

Rogue Legacy 2 enhances all aspects of the first game and delivers a vast amount of content that provides many hours of quality entertainment. Every journey is unique and well balanced. Although failure is recurrent along the way, the game gradually provides small upgrades that will allow even the most casual players to succeed in the end.

Rogue Legacy 2 is an excellent sequel that takes the compelling magic of the original and throws the kitchen sink at it. It more than lives up to its own legacy with smart additions to the formula and an incredible amount of variety. Unlocking meaningful upgrades and discovering the deep layers of gameplay keep it fresh dozens of hours in. Once you get past the tidal wave of mechanics and information thrown at you, it stands among the best rogue-likes and -lites available.

Rogue Legacy 2’s long gestation has benefitted it immensely. It comes to PS5 in the shape of its life, and it is easily among the best Metroidvania-style games on the market today.

Rogue Legacy 2 on PS5 is the best way to experience what Cellar Door Games has done since its original release to cement its, erm, legacy.

Rogue Legacy 2 takes the original and stuffs it full of new content. For the most part, this is all welcome and done to the impeccably high standards of the original but there's so much going on at times that the game can start to feel a bit dense and weighed down by it. But the addictiveness that you expect from the original is still here and will definitely keep you playing.

On World tier 7+ / variant fights there are a lot of scenarios with unavoidable damage or required spells. I want to be able to clear through with skill and not requiring inflated stats to face tank everything. Full Review »

A useless exercise in box-ticking). Few people in 2023 are going to be angered by the presence of certain preferences in games but this feels like the makers have shoehorned even more of it into the sequel. The game partially builds on its predecessor but feels as if it is lacking in some areas. It is a fun game but the boring lore and pushing of certain preferences are not needed in a game that one ought to be marketing to the masses. I find myself playing it in spite of these annoyances rather than taking them as a crucial aspect of the game. The Dark Souls Lite approach to lore is also lame and along with the 'humour' should be resigned back to Failarmy circa 2013. Mechanics-wise it's fun and the new abilities (or repurposed old ones) feel satisfying. Dropping the obnoxious writing style and the other aspects would help broaden this games appeal. It could be marketed to children and adults alike but it seems content to settle in it's little niche, unfortunately rendering it average. Full Review »

Doesn't have the replayability of Hades, but it's a nice palate cleanser after a steady diet of soulslike games.
