This game is so much better than a lot of the reviews made out, yeah its very zelda like but that's the fun. Finally a zelda clone for playstation, genuinely do not pass this game up. Great fun.

Pretty decent game filled with puzzles and combat similar to Zelda. Combat isn't as clean and balanced, and the puzzles aren't as well-designed, but sometimes it's close enough to not matter. Greek mythology has been done to death, so the irreverent take on the gods here is actually welcome, as it is different and somewhat original.

My main complaints are that the combat becomes trivial about a third of the way through the game, and there is a lack of variety in enemy encounters and puzzles. It all starts to seem the same halfway through. Like most Ubisoft games, there is a little too much generic content, and the final battle is awful.

A solid game that I give a bigger score to for including quite expansive and interesting DLC. While this game isn't your standard 9, I think for what it set out to do it achieved what it can while only requiring very minor improvements seen in other Ubisoft titles such as Valhalla to make this feel like a complete Quality of Life product

A lot of hubbub from the online community is that this game is a Breath of the wild clone/rip-off. Some of the elements found in this game can be found in Breath of the Wild and several other game releases in the last decade. Yes this is another third-person open world adventure, and it is also set in a mythological setting. Its so far copied a decent chunk of games released in the past decade. Don't forget that Ubisoft just released Valhalla and Watch Dogs, this will mark the third open world adventure game, in only a few short months. There is a lot of complaints about this game, its almost like people don't have the consoles to play this game and don't want anyone else to experience it. Truth be told, this is a great game. I have yet to run into any frame drops, or notable loss of quality anywhere. The game is beautifully sculpted in every conseveable way. The story, told as you're progressing, told by Promethus to Zeus is as comedic as it is enticing. The pace of the game is fast and slow. Combat and movement is akin to Assassins Creed, but dumbed down, not much emphasis on stealth although that is an option. Progression in the game (unlocks) seem to come every mission, you'll feel stacked for battle within the first hour. Even after that attaining items doesn't feel like a chore and the puzzles some of the items are hidden behind do not take a degree to figure out, but may have you scratching your head for a moment. In true Ubisoft fashion there are locations on the map, and collectibles for you to find, these aren't required to beat the game but going for 100% completetion will require you to hunt these down. They're not as plentiful as they used to be, but will see you hunting for them none the less. If you want to think of it as a Zelda clone, do it, was Breath of the Wild a bad game? If its a clone there is no reason this game should recieve less than Breath of the Wild for a score. But I find it original and unique, while not a perfect game, it could easily eat up 20+ hours of your time, without making it feel like a chore. Expand

Immortals Fenyx Rising is hands down the most pure, joyful FUN I have had with a video game in 2020, and maybe 2019 as well. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve played some great games in that span—some with tighter combat mechanics or a better story or deeper characters—but none that was more fun.

It’s Breath of the Wild meets Greek myth with an Aesthetic inspired by Studio Gibli and emotional undertones of an animated Disney film. The game is absolutely gorgeous. This is the kind of game where you want to walk/fly around just to feast your eyes. The music is, for the most part, pretty great too. It’s a joy just to be in this world, full monsters and myths and challenges and puzzles (so many puzzles—seriously, this game is a real puzzler). And after the prologue, it’s fully open, meaning you can play any way you want to. If you love the arrow challenges and fresco puzzles but hate the constellation puzzles, you can usually do what you like and skip what you don’t. What the world lacks up in size it makes up in density: around just about every corner is puzzle hiding some kind of reward, and you can engage that puzzle or not, for as long as you want. Or you can just go fight some monsters, or climb a mountain, fight an optional boss, collect power-up items and gear to strengthen your character, learn new godly powers… and maybe at some point proceed with the story.

The story is not the game’s strong point, and I don’t think it’s meant to be. After the prologue, I played for about 20 hours just exploring and having fun before I finally got back to the next main story quest. And I took lots of breaks from the main story after that too. I can’t help but feel that the game is meant to be paced this way. I played 70 hours total and finished with dozens of vaults and challenges still left incomplete. If you’re just rushing through the main story, you’re missing the game, IMHO.

Not that the main story is bad, exactly: Typhon, a Titan, is trying to take down the Greek Gods and you, the unlikely hero Fenyx, need to help restore some of them to power. It’s all kind of goofy and silly, sometimes genuinely funny, sometimes kind of cringey. The Gods themselves are larger than life, often oafish, and the game really emphasizes the way they all function as an extremely dysfunctional family. Fenyx, meanwhile, has a heart of gold. The occasional moment of mean-spirited humor aside, the story overall has the kind of relentless emotional earnestness that makes Disney movies a household name. Immortals Fenyx Rising lite fare as stories and characters go … but lite fare enables the overall tone of light-heartedness that pervades the game and adds to its joy.

There was only one big letdown for me, and that was the game’s final five hours or so. The game teases you with what looks like a giant mountain area that you can’t access until later on. Because the rest of the game was constituted by such excellent open world design, it’s easy to assume this final area will be a similar garden of treasures. Not so. It turns out the final area is a linear path with only one “right” way to go, and several mandatory puzzles. It has secrets and off-shoots along the way, but at the end of the day, there is only one way to climb that mountain. This marks a radical shift in game design that feels like a betrayal of everything that came before. Slogging up that mountain was not super-fun, and made the final vault, with its final round of mandatory puzzles, feel like more of a grind than it would have otherwise.

But the frustration of the linear endgame ultimately was not enough to tarnish the joy that this game brought me. I LOVED Immortals Fenyx Rising. Getting to sink into this world for a week after all the hardships of 2020 seriously felt like therapy for me. Like, I’m a better, happier person because of this game. And that is not something I say often. Thank you, Ubisoft, for giving us this gem.

I’ve been playing the AC series since the beginning and this game has better combat than any of them. I have played Breath of the Wild and while I enjoyed it, there was almost too much to it. By comparison, this game is more focused and is more navigable than BOTW in my opinion.

Again, I will be biased with my love for Greek mythos, but I find the story entertaining and lighthearted, which I prefer in games (I prefer good gameplay over serious stories, it’s a game after all). Plus I love the banter between Prometheus and Zeus.

If you are a fan of exploitable open worlds with a lot to do and fantastic gameplay you will enjoy. This is the most enjoyable game I have played this year. You will not regret buying it and I really hope there is a sequel.

After all the game look beautiful, runs smooth and I encountered no bluescreens or bugs at all on my PS5. There seems to be an issue on old gen consoles with a specific puzzle type, not sure if that is still a thing after the recent patches. The devs are very consistent on that.

You will be busy for 20-30hrs on a playthrough and around 45-50hrs for completionist. Might wait for a small discount of 10-20% but the game is also worth full price in my opinion. I had lots of fun, the combat is ver good and the puzzle design are amazing. Would rebuy it any time for full price.

Zeus needs help, the greek gods are in trouble, all of the mortals are stone.. except for one of course.. you… you creae your character and its off to helping zeus and the rest of the gods in this open world puzzle game… and if there weren’t such a large emphises on the puzzle part, this game as series has such great potential… for starters this world is beautiful, though there are crashing issues is you play in pretty mode vs the run better mode on the playstations 5… here youll be running around, collecting items to craft consumables, find gear, and collect shards to upgrade your gear and character, run around and complete tasks for the different gods and gain new abilities.. if it stopped there I would be fine, run around this opwen world with sections that feel and look different enough reperesenting each god you help… all while the game hilariously narrates for you… a real highlight… I could’ve loved immortals fenyx.. but its insistence to try and be a breath of a wild clones, sucked away all of its charm and left immortals fenyx risings feeling like a good.. yet soulless game… its cookie cutter, and what were left with if unfun combat, and boring drug out puzzles.. the vaults are half of the game and theyre just awful.. they have their moments of being fun brain teasesers… but these puzzles show up way too frequently in your 13 plus hour journey… and I dreaded them every time.. im not a big fan of puzzles in general… but when theres essentially puzzle rooms vs environmental puzzles, I hate it even more… just let me build up my charcters, sneak around, tame and kill things while my boy zeus makes awful jokes.. that’s all I wanna do… but fenyx rising sortve blows its load for me.. if you’ve played journey to the savage planet.. it’s the same kind of thing… youre smacked with charm, mystery and immersion.. and then everything else feels lackluster in ocmparision to the greatness the adventure starts with…
While I can appreciate that this is objectively a good game that plenty will love… for me this was a game that kept throwing school work at me when all I wanted to do was play at recess… and once I get out to recess its like oh, its raining.. youre playing in the gym today, not the playground like youre used to doing.. meaning that this world is just a chore to even get around in.. the whole stamina whil you run, climb, swim, and soar thing can be fun if done right.. its not done right here.. its annoying and just makes traversal not fun.. . but I am again just speaking for myself.. for me the combat gt stale fast, the traversal becomes annoying fast, and the puzzles get annoying boring and overwhelming fast… what am I doing playing this?
for a lot of people though theyre hearing this review being all like. Yeha this is what I want, imam buy this right now.. I get it.. tis a good game, just not for me.

They've structured the loot in such a way that you would expect from a free-to-play mmorpg. There are a handful of basic armor sets to collect in game from the content (randomly rewarded from chests), but ALL of the really cool looking gear is locked behind either microtransactions from the cash shop or very time consuming farming of in game currency that is time-gated and used for a different shop, that offers less to buy. Even worse, the stuff you can buy with in game currency is limited time only before it resets and offers new stuff, so it's very likely that even if you see something neat for sale you won't have the currency to get it. Still, there's nothing fun or cool about buying the best looking gear from a store. These should be rewards from solving the hardest puzzles or beating the toughest monsters!!!

Take all of the amazing loot in the shops and dump it into the game as loot collected from content and achievements and you have yourself one hell of a game to sink your teeth into. I can't imagine the excitement of earning all that cool stuff the way it should be in a single player game. As it stands now though, about 1/4 of the way into your playthrough you will realize nothing you find past that point will ever feel cool again as it's just reskins of the same boring armor sets over and over for the rest of the game. Meanwhile, you look at the cash shop and see stuff for sale that puts everything you can earn from completing the toughest puzzles or content in the game to shame. HORRIBLE game design for a single player game. You can't even show your gear off to other players in a hub or something? Why. Just why.

You guys ruined your game. This crap doesn't belong in a single player game, I just can't believe you are so focused on making an extra buck that you decided to turn a great single player rpg into a sleezy free to play microtransaction business model.

It could have been 10/10 if the 2 shops didn't exist and all the great loot was rewarded to you from exploring and completing content.

I have to heavily subtract from my score though since it felt like the last 3/4 of my playthrough the loot was uninteresting and not rewarding at all because of the shops. I would have gladly purchased the season pass if the shops didn't exist, but I'm not supporting this kind of monetization in a single player RPG.

It is very hard to avoid comparing Immortals to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Despite obvious inspirations it is a typical Ubi-game with all its pros and cons, an inventory screen copied almost exactly from Assassin’s Creed, and a store with premium items. Anyhow, it’s Ubisoft’s most interesting game in years, definitely worth checking out for its satisfying exploration accompanied by simple combat and tons of good puzzles. [01/2021, p.62]

Ubisoft's open-world titles can invoke burnout towards their conclusion - crumbling under their own weight due to their size. Instead, this is a real palette cleanser. It feels like it hits that real sweet spot in the genre of the open-world adventure games. The world is large but enjoyable to explore, with just enough to do, and the constant commentary keeping things interesting. This combined with the genuinely funny and smart writing results in something that will be the big surprise hit for many.
