They was able to make a plot as good as the first, this is very difficult to happen!!! The game feels more difficult and challenge from the first, they lost some opportunities and gaps in the overall story but nothing that will make you lose interest or impact much your immersion playing the game! Still a masterpiece!!

Have tested it a few hours. Don't like it personally. I would give it like 5 or 6. But because of disgusting ubisoft-fanboys giving elden ring a 0/10 I am going to do the same here to even it a bit out. Imagine copying the word of a malding ubisoft dev on twitter and reviewbombing with this wrong statements.

Basically a repeat of the first game but with prettier graphics. Put it down after 3 hours of boring repetitive side content on top of mediocre story.

    They have really outdone themselves!
They have taken everything that was good from the last game and made it better.
They took everything that was bad from the last game and improved upon it.

I think the skill trees were pretty pointless... I didn't use half of the skills that were on there.

Only a few hours in but visually stunning. Gameplay is excellent and the storyline is wonderful and follows on beautifully from Zero Dawn. Shows off the power of the PS5 graphically. Cannot wait for the PSVR2 and the scheduled Horizon game. Just stunning.

Nobody's going to read my lengthy review, but I'm going to do it anyway:
While I certainly liked the game, it's hard to ignore the flaws.
While I played on the PS5, and thus didn't have many of the graphical issues that others experience, I can't give it a high score with that in mind. Launching in a horrific state for some platforms are unacceptable. It does feel like a great

It does feel like a great continuation of HZD, and I loved finding more lore about this universe (which is one of my favorites, in gaming). I don't personally mind that it feels very "same-old'y", when played after HZD, and I feel most of the systems was properly improved from the first game.
Outside of that, most of my positives for this title are the graphics, the animations and, most importantly, the characters.

But there are negatives. While I appreciate a singular, linear main storyline, it didn't feel great that there were no meaningful choices in an RPG title. Largely, your choices are irrelevant, and in, by far, most cases there was a positive end for quests. Everything always just turned out just fine, which invalidates the feeling of there being anything at stake. This is a very deep flaw in an RPG title.
It did have a lot to live up to, after HZD's success, and I appreciate that many feel this game improved that formula, but I can't ignore the bugs, the non-choices and the lack of performance for certain platforms.

Firstly it should be noted that I thoroughly enjoyed the first game, it's combination of combat, lore/story, and beautiful landscapes was fantastic and whilst it borrowed a lot of ideas, they all came together to make something unique.

This game keeps the same great combat from the first game, mixing up the enemy types with some fantastic new designs. I was a little frustrated at the seeming lack of use for the rope caster this time round as it doesn't seem to tie down anything but very small machines making it largely useless. That aside though the combat is still awesome. The larger changes to combat are in the melee portion of the game giving you new combos that are great to pull off, but outside of the melee pits there aren't a huge amount of combat scenarios where you need to use them.

I was a little worried going into this game that they wouldn't be able to maintain the level of mystery that drove a lot of the first games narrative, and whilst that is true, it replaces it with more heart and some truly fun sci fi that keeps you guessing for a wile at least.

The graphics and open world on display here are truly amazing. You will often stop just to look around and marvel at your surroundings and whilst the game can rely on a map marker system at times, I would suggest turning most of it off and just exploring whatever takes your eyes fancy. Not all of it will have something to discover, but you may find a hidden under water cave replete with valuables to upgrade your weapons, a new hunting ground, a side quest, or just a random event.

I love the crafting system in this game, taking notes from monster hunter, you hunt down certain machines for certain parts. This becomes a test of skill as you have to shoot off said parts most of the time in order to collect them. I enjoyed this test of skill however some may find this a bit frustrating, however there is an option to just collect everything without having to shoot it off in options menu.

All in all this is a fantastic game, there are a few frustrations with traversal, but the story, crafting, graphics, combat, and not least musical score come together to make a great game. It was close to a 10, but I think some reliance on now overly familiar game elements prevents it from being a true master piece. I am now eagerly awaiting Horizon 3 whenever that may be.

Edit: Do yourself a favour and play on Hard, otherwise it will be. hours of firing arrows at easy machines. Hard and above make sure that you need to use the combat options at your disposal and make the game infinitely more interesting than it would be on normal.

If I were basing my review on Horizon Forbidden West lush beauty, WELL it would be getting a 10! What an amazing game, it was so atmospheric! I really got into the world.(With some caveats)

But after playing it & beating it on the PS5, on the hardest difficulty (157 hours)(no trophy for that?!)-I have a different take.

So, the game is a solid romp. It's a fun engaging experience. ALL the side quest are just as engaging as the main story. (I honestly got sick of it to be frank & longed for a simple fetch quest mixed in w/o having to find some boss at the end of it)...the characters are lively & chatty.

The combat for me, was appropriate to the difficulty I chose.. IT WAS VERY CHALLENGING. I honestly felt like some of the "boss fights", were frankly cheating at times, with the *Warping underground to my immediate location*... the warpy *jump attacks* where even with appropriate jumps on my part at least visually, as far as timing goes, I was still taking damage! I did not like that.

As a matter of fact, I felt like, the game was MORE NUMBER'S than skill, & more often than not, I found the "aim assist" hindering as much as it was helping. Like literally had arrows VEER off, course when it was very clear where the reticle was aimed. You could turn this feature off, but it was still hit & miss. Didn't like it.

The melee combat was annoying. Too much going on, I know the team was trying to make it "Fluid" & whatever other adjective you can throw out, but to me, it was just f**king annoying. I felt like I was trying to wrangle a herd of cats, getting aloy to do what I wanted in a fight.

Some of the tutorials in the melee pits made no sense.

A ton of weapons are story locked, which as an explorer, that's just annoying as all get out. The different armors were cool. Story locked as well.

They should have just made it simpler & you had 1 armor set with multiple slots you can customize with trinkets that boosted things for the player, & then you'd get to customize that, tweak it.

Same with weapons. Have 1 solid base, & then upgrade from there, instead of ALL these overly colorful weapons.. It was too much effort for me as a gamer & I'm sure for the dev? & it was a bad experience to be honest!

It was going from one time consuming bow/(insert weapon) to another.. it go OLD real quick. I'd find one I liked, & then have to move on.. (more powerful creatures, you need a more powerful bow?)

Speaking of weapons unlocked, you get a javelin that explodes in this game. That was pretty cool.

One thing though I noticed about ALL the weapons, & maybe it was just the difficulty I was playing at, but they didn't, even with upgrades, seem as "effective" or damaging, as the first Horizon Zero dawn?

Changing it up, I thought the "Special" abilities, especially one you unlock that makes you camouflaged, was really awesome, but poorly implemented. They just didn't last long enough, & you had to engage in battle FIRST to charge them up, which .. was annoying to be frank. Their was no way to upgrade these or make them work faster, etc.. It was a cool feature, but the way it was done, left it coming up short.

Grappling mechanic in the game, flat out sucked & was VERY limiting. I never expected myself to say this, but Halo Infinite that team pulled off the grappling mechanic perfectly. But I think if you are going to put a grapple in your game, you should at least aim for that level of effectiveness.

You unlock a certain transportation mechanic, in the game, WAAAY into the story. I'd say at about the 80% mark of the game? & since I did basically every side quest I could before tackling the main story... um, it end up biting me in the butt as a player. I'm sure it was meant to help make traversing the world more fun?

What I will say about this decision on the devs part, is again, its stupid.. it should have been done in a way where the player could have unlocked it ASAP, b/c it was the most awesome, epic amazing fun thing!.. the only way it could have been cooler, is if you'd got to ride on one of the large t-rex'esqe robots..

TL:DR Game is really amazing, its just got some small things that drag it down, instead of elevate it to a solid 10. For me, that's why I'm giving it the score I did. I feel like after giving the game 157hrs of my time, that I've got a pretty clear understanding of what I liked & didn't like as a gamer, & what was effective.

That being said, I have no regrets about my purchase.

Hfw has a great story but suffers with performance issues still to this day. Washed out and over sharpened images to frame drops in quality mode. The world is much the same as the first game with the old hold your hand world that we see in most open world games. Its a decent sequel to the great hzd but it isnt ground breaking and nothing seems to have changed at all.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I enjoyed Aloy’s first journey so much and I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one! However, while the map and sceneries were absolutely gorgeous, specially while flying around on a Sunwing. Unfortunately the story and characters failed to get me hooked like the first one did. The saddest part of the game was the ultimate message Guerrilla conveyed to the players which was obviously inspired by The Last of Us 2 and forced them to twist the story and ruin such a great game just like last of us 2 did. I'm afraid this is becoming a new trend and bad influence for players specially the younger generation. Sigh. Expand

People who are posting a 0/10 seem to be extremists because any sane human being who's ever played a video game in their life would see agree that this title isn't deserving of such harsh negativity. If you think the story is unimaginative you clearly aren't paying attention. The controls take some time to get used to, true. But like any other game, you simply have to spend the necessary time to master the nuanced changes made from the original to utilize them effectively. Horizon Forbidden West tries really hard to be a good game. But it falls into the same problems as nearly all other games currently. Do the same mundane tasks over and over again. The same boss battles as it's previous games. Same mundane climb towers. It's generally not a good game at all. The biggest disappointment of 2021 by far!

Horizon Forbidden West is Guerrilla's best game to date, taking Aloy to new heights with a blockbuster release that meets the high standards set by PlayStation in recent years. While it's totally worth fans jumping in on day one, it's perhaps better to wait a few weeks until all the bugs are ironed out.

Horizon Forbidden West is exactly what everyone thought it would be: an amazing game. It has an open world with plenty of things to do and places to explore, fights against some really well-developed machines and stunning visuals. The feeling is that the second game of the series improves on what was already great, and it feels rewarding and fun to play. It is another single-player masterpiece from Sony.
