Finally a good tactical Shooter on a PS5

You have a blast with this once it clicks with you and your Team comunicates and everyone works together. It has a steep learning curve but it is absolutely worth it

Things I like about HHL on PS5

    - The quality is great, textures, lighting and sound.
    - No fuss UI, really easy to get into a game and understand how progression works.
    - If people are willing, it can be immersive if people are working together.
    - When you understand how the modes work, it becomes a lot easier in terms of strategy.
    - Length of games are long, so you have enough time to really dig in and enjoy it.
    - Surprisingly - you can see enemy 250m away with some detail.
    - Really easy to switch between squad and team chat
    - Awesome to overhear over teams chatting when you get close (some sort of proximity chat thing)

    Things I don't like

    - Aiming, it seems it's harder to simply aim at an enemy on console, you have sensitivity, this deadzone thing (how much you have to move the stick before it recognises it). You have to wrestle a little bit to get it where it needs to go, and with recoil etc. sometimes you're all over the place.
    - It's not apparent from the start unless you read the manuals, what each role does, so as a noob you don't know how you can help.
    - If no one is talking: if there's no communication, the game becomes frustrating because the idea is about holding ground, not kills - so if no one is working together to make points you can spawn from, you are left to run long distances just to get back in the action.
    - Running: it's meant to simulate real speeds but the steps and movements are too drawn out, they need to speed it or add more steps in per metre to create a sense of urgency.
    - The scoreboard only uses icons to reference how you did, they need to add text so I know how I performed quickly.

Tips: download this with a few friends if you can so you're not left hoping people will or won't chat.
I found enabling cross play helps with people who want to chat.

In my opinion, the most refreshing and progressive evolution of the FP shooter genre since BF1942. Don't be put off by the low score reviews. This game ain't a casual drop in experience, and is not for gamers with a low attention span. Those players bounce right off the surface and are likely the ones leaving poor review scores.

Invest a little time learning how this game ticks (hint: more like a FPS Company Of Heroes than the current iteration of BF or COD) and I doubt you will regret it. A little persistence, a little research....trust me. Still less to get your head round than the average RPG or Strategy game.
The best things in life often require a little effort after all, and the battles you'll find yourself in as a result are well....unparalleled. Hope to see you in the field.
Note: I deducted a point due to some niggling ongoing stability issues that it would be disingenuous not to acknowledge. Early days on console so hopefully they will be rectified.

A stellar experience, with some of the most visceral gun battles I've ever experienced. There's a catch: Everyone must learn the rules. It's a complex system, it's unforgiving, it's unforgettable. It'd be easy to play one game and say "this isn't for me", but give it time and take time to learn it. It isn't COD.

Also, it probably has the best sound design I've ever heard in a shooter.

Another two weeks on and I think it is the best multiplayer team game I have ever played (I’m in my 50’s and have been playing video games since I was in my teens). The tactical elements are so deep, and the atmosphere is just phenomenal.

The key to enjoying this game is understanding the mechanics, communicating, and playing as a team. Can’t praise this game enough, it’s absolutely awesome. It has its faults and bugs which will be ironed out, but overall it’s an incredible experience. Highly recommend if you’re prepared to invest the time to learn how to play. Drop in solo players looking for a quick game of team death match need not bother,

Besides shooting you’ll need to manage squads, manage spawn points, team buffs and team resouces if you choose to play as a commander or officer. Winning by communicating with your squad and other team leaders gives and unrivaled sense of satisfaction. I can say more but im sure other reviews have the details i missed covered. For this game to be enjoyed to its fullest, it requires teamwork. If there are folks who do not communicate using the in-game chat, or even follow your officer’s and commander’s orders, you’ll do poorly. Not only will you not do well in game, but the game will ultimately not be enjoyable for not just you, but likely your unit and your entire team altogether. HLL thrives on teamwork and communication. Your officer didn’t setup an outpost? Good luck running 1200m to the frontlines. Your commander didn’t send in a recon plane? Good luck finding enemy position. Your medic just wondered 400m from your unit? Good luck getting revived. This game is incredible. At least, when the other players are doing their jobs. I’ve already made new friends from finding well-adjusted people who work together to take objectives and help each other on the battlefield. With weapons that look and feel real, and bullets that do a fairly realistic amount of damage, this is just the tip of the iceberg of a game that the devs were not just ambitious, but also made a war game that is in a completely new and amazing category. All I could hope or ask for is simply more map content, and simply game patches (and I know they will do at least that.

This isn’t your little brothers call of duty, so if that’s the game you’re looking for, call Activision. Leave the RTS/FPS godsend titled Hell Let Loose to those who want to enjoy it for what it is.

It’s a combination of the original Battlefield 1942 and the board game Risk, but in a digital format for console upgraded to 2022. It’s a game with extremely accurate historical battlefields from WWII and a great game for the more mature player who feels that the other first shooters on the market are to childish. The game needs a level of intelligence and strategy in order to succeed. If you’re lucky and end up in a squad and also have a great commander, I’ll guarantee that you’ll be stuck for hours w/o understanding what happened with time. The team spirit on the field with the serious players is an amazing experience that gives you a feeling of genuine brotherhood (or sisterhood). The console version is still struggling with some problems as far as bugs and server issues, but seem to be dedicated to resolve issues as soon as they surface. If requires you to work together, not only at a squad level but at platoon/company level too using both Squad chat and proximity chat (also command chat if you are the squad leader so you can talk to the commander and other squad leaders etc).

The gameplay feels realistic in terms of there being bouts of intensive firefights dispersed with times when you are moving to a location, which can take some time unless a friendly driver stops to pick you up. ;) This change in pace between the firefights just helps to increase the tension until suddenly you hear a crack of gun fire and rounds start whistling past your head as your vision goes blurry.

If you're after a quick fix of fast paced mayhem (thinking COD/Battlefield) this game might seem a little too slow paced for you. If, however, you're looking for a realistic feeling, team based tactical experience then this could very well be the game you've been waiting for.

The game also fully utilises the PS5's haptic feedback so you get some good resistance as you're lining up on your enemy and gently squeezing the trigger. Also, you can 'feel' the ground below you as you crawl on your belly. The sounds are great, the graphics are awesome. I'm loving it!

Find a way around the tank or flank your enemies. It's such a rewarding game when you start to play together. For all of you that gives this a low score saying things about the maps are boring. The maps are replicas of real strategic maps from WW2. A true genuinely masterpiece.

Is also exceptionally unbeginner friendly, there is no tutorial which it desperately needs as the game opens up into a menu and you have no idea what to do, so you kind of try something, and it just a mess. And the game is complicated from what I can tell, people need some help getting into the swing of things otherwise you just run for like 5 mins at a time to a spot on a map, and your location is poorly marked, and then you try not to die but likely will and it all starts over again and repeats just like that.

The premise (a WW2 FPS with an interest in realism and a limited HUD) is sound. But snipers have an unreasonable advantage over every other unit, and while communication is important to the experience, there’s no decent alternative to voice chat (which almost nobody uses). For a large-scale WW2 shooter, try Enlisted instead – it’s more fun and is free to play. [Issue#8, p.97]

Caveats noted, playing Hell Let Loose with a decent squad of players willing to communicate, a competent commander, and skills sufficient to the moment is a unique, exciting, and extremely rewarding first-person shooter experience, ultimately much more satisfying than the arcade shooters to which most players are accustomed. Getting to the point of real comfort with the game’s mechanics, interface and team systems takes a commitment of time and the willingness to learn from others and the game’s written material, and is definitely not for everyone. Hell Let Loose does a great job of reminding us how important teamwork, communication, and reliance on others can be, not just in war but maybe in the broader context of our lives.
