I have waited 72 hours to play this just to find out that the Rockstar Launcher had gone in maintenance.

Then another 72 hours to wait for the game to come back on PC.

PC messed up launch, the rest the game is pretty good for PC, except the bugs.....

Sadly, this 20 year anniversary port has technical issues involving gameplay, bugs, heavy rain, and typos on signs/billboards and of course endless amounts of frustration that involves the shooting mechanics. The gameplay features still feels exactly the same and fluid as the PS2 ports which is great. The graphics and upgraded textures with lighting and environmental upgrades is an incredible upgrade, but in terms of gameplay performance - the frame rate is just embarassing on PS5 after turning on performance mode. Everything else about this trilogy is a nice touch from porting the classic Renderware engine to Unreal Engine 5 after Rockstar merged with Epic Games after the success of Fortnite and I can see why Rockstar chose UE5 and I am indifferent about it. For those that are wondering about the OSTs for all three classic GTA titles, most songs are not affected as most of them got renewed in terms of licensing and I am glad most of the songs from GTA VC are still there. If I was being completely honest, this game needs a lot of patches to fix the gameplay presentation and they should bring back the classic control and aim shooting scheme from the PS2 era. As a lifelong fan of Rockstar Games, I am starting to worry about the future for Rockstar and I don't know if I can call this 20 year anniversary remaster a cash grab or not but I am starting to have doubts in them after one of the great veteran Rockstar leads left the company. And to be honest, GTA III: The Definitive Edition deserved better. Overall, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is what I call a 20 year anniversary remaster that look superb thanks to the modern technology that brought the best out of the GTA3 trilogy, but it doesn't feel like a proper revamped Rockstar remaster we know anymore. Overall, it is an amazing nostalgic experience if you are one of those die hard GTA fan during its prime. people have mix opinion of this game but i keep myself in the developers shoes and understand what they are really trying to create. from the get go, this is not a 10/10 remastered game but you have to understand that this is 3 big epic GTA games bundled in to one. I believe the developers goal is to update the game's visual while preserving its core recipe of what made this 3 games epic and classic and provide its gamers the nostalgic feel and i believe they were able to achieve that. But its far from perfect. after playing couple of hours, you will notice some lazy work from the developer like the rain, physics, pop-ins. The performance is not acceptable for a current Gen.

    Positives:

i like the driving and road symmetric way better than GTA5. they change this from new sandbox driving games i don't understand why. i like the mission phasing and its immersion to the world map is way better than GTA5. again they change this. To be more specific, they let you experience the first few missions in the 1st area before you get to the next. this way, it lets you appreciate the change of scenery from time to time and get you more excited how big the map you have yet to explore. The story is surprisingly not bad for a 20 year old game. The story of GTA is supper bad. The character design as i mentioned earlier, is a preservation of nostalgic art style.

    Negatives.

I hate the radio track if not as bad as GTA5. the performance (FPS) is unacceptable , glitches and lazy remaster in some instances.

    driving realism - 8/10
road symmetric and traffic lights realism - 8/10
    story - 8/10
mission phasing and its immersion to the world map - 8/10
    Sandbox - 8/10
    graphics - 8/10
    Radio station - 4/10
    Character design - 8/10
    gameplay/bugs/glitches - 6/10

The graphics can be dazzling, looking really stunning, especially Vice City. The little touches by Grove Street Games, better known by War Drum Studios, are really nice. The only real complaints are of course the infamous bugs and some really bad models that really need to patched out. I would've given this I higher rating if it weren't for the minimal amount of bugs found in different versions of the game, some visual, most often or not game breaking bugs, some horrible models and...no User Music for the PC version? Really?!

Anyway, this is overall a great way to experience these games. Just wait for Grove Street Games to patch these out and I'm we'll get the real Definitive Edition everyone wants without **** about it. :)

The remasters aren’t perfect. Overtime I’m sure rockstar will fix the bugs. Those complaining about the lack of swimming in GTA 3 and Vice City… you couldn’t swim in the originals either. These games are fun and very true to their originals.

Pretty much what you’d expect but with prettier, more colourful cities. Unfortunately, while the environments look improved the character models are just too blocky and at worst, tragically odd looking. The gameplay is slightly smoother but then it had to be or we’d revert to the older cheaper versions.

It’s all I really wanted. The earlier 3 were almost unplayable. To me, they didn’t age well. All I really wanted was updated controls. I also got a nice bump in resolution, and 60fps. There’s a nice fresh coat of paint, too. So model screw ups here and there, but I’m still appreciative. $20 absolutely worth it considering the originals still for $10…emulated

As a first time player to this game I enjoyed it a lot, the colours in the definite edition are unlike any other rockstar game, it really adds a wow sensation. After beating gta 3 the only problem I really had was that there were invisible walls that I would crash into in every 2nd mission and that’s really the only problem I had with this game.

I wouldn't say the game is unplayable, people are never happy. They told you what you was getting and people still moan. The bugs though I can't defend. Needed a bit longer in development, another great game rushed by greedy AAA company's.

This remaster makes the beloved trilogy very playable on modern consoles, but it's plagued with technical difficulties and bugs which is a shame. I'm enjoying the games a lot because of the nostalgia, but for a 2021 remaster it's kind of unforgiving that this is what we got, especially for 60 € pricetag.

    Games are 10/10

    I give this 6/10

6/10 for the sake of old times... GTA Trilogy - The Definitive Edition has an identity crisis, suggesting that not a lot of thought was put into remastering the game. GTA Trilogy - The Definitive Edition has an identity crisis, suggesting that not a lot of thought was put into remastering the game. It feels half-baked, and I can't understand what they developers were trying to achieve. For starters, it is A LOT PRETTIER to look at, the colours and reflections are a massive improvement from the original. But does it feel better? That's objective... I personally enjoyed playing the SA remaster, it brought back a lot of memories, but I simply can't convince myself that these three titles are worth $60. Speaking relatively to the price, the money they demand can't be justified. Gameplay hasn't changed much, they have managed to retain the "feel" of the original games (to a respectable extent), but is that a valid reason to excuse R*'s lethargy? No. I was expecting more from a top-of-the-shelf 2021 AAA title, and they have disappointed me and many other loyalists alike. One of my major criticisms of the "remaster" is quite simple: It should've been a remake instead. R* have pretty much mastered open world graphics with GTA V and fluid physics with GTA IV, and both titles are almost a decade old. When they have such tools at their disposal, why did they deliver a sub-par video game? It does have some positives to it, like a MUCH higher drawing distance and better textures, but overall, it hasn't improved much. The games, and frankly R* themselves, are in troublesome waters... First they disappointed the player base with E&E, and have totally dropped the ball by destroying the faith old-timers had in them by butchering legendary titles. The advancement is negligible and unimpressive, and is massively overpriced for what it offers (not to mention the countless bugs and glitches, it is 2021 R*). You might wonder why I've rated the game 6/10? It felt good. I believe it is the nostalgia, reliving my childhood memories. When I was playing the game, I wasn't thinking about most of these things, because it made me feel like a kid again... But don't let nostalgia take away the fact that the "remaster" is nothing more than a cheap mod (and guess what? mods don't cost $60! in fact, they don't cost anything at all). And with T2 constantly gunning down modders left, right, and center, these legendary titles might never get the remake they deserve... Expand

A textbook example of how not to remaster games from the PlayStation 2 era, these defective "definitive" releases are just desecration of three classic titles that deserve much better treatment.
