In case I hadn’t made it clear already, I really didn’t like Gotham Knights. It lacks the speed, flow and character of previous Batman games, and its action-oriented gameplay is hamstrung by the 30 FPS lock. It became such an exercise in boredom that I couldn’t bring myself to continue playing — and because I didn’t finish, I’m leaving a score off the end of this review.

But Gotham Knights is lacking some of the interpretive moves that made both Rocksteady’s Arkham games and WB Games Montreal’s own Arkham Origins so fascinating and unique. It’s yet another encounter on the same rain-soaked streets.

But all these unforced errors are being applied to a framework that’s so solid that it’s still hard not to have fun with it for a decent proportion of the time. The worst thing you can say about the game, really, is that in reviewing it, I’ve been unable to avoid mentioning what’s ostensibly a whole separate series of video games in pretty much every paragraph. That’s how beholden the good in Gotham Knights is to Rocksteady’s work—but that good is still present, nevertheless.

I enjoyed my time with these heroes, villains, and this beautiful world. But I am hesitant to return or recommend it, given the choppy framerate and sluggish combat. If you can overlook, you will find an enjoyable open world action game, with moments of levity and wholesomeness. While Batman himself may be dead, it felt great to play in the spandex and capes of his proteges.

God of War Ragnarok is coming out soon, and it has a 120fps option. That is 4x the fps of Gotham Knights. And Gotham Knights is empty, no civilians or pedestrians, same copy-paste buildings. God of War has crazy amount of details. This is just not good enough.
First they removed the PS4 released "because it's a next-gen game" they said. So I though WOW it's gonna have amazing graphics. But no......... the reason it's not out for last gen, is because it cannot run on last gen. It can only barely run 30fps on next-gen, it even dips to 25fps sometimes. This game is a mess

Huge respect to developers who are making these AAA masterpieces. Story so good, never seen in a game before. Combat, fast as lightning and graphics so good, that this masterpiece can barely run 30fps (mostly 20-24fps). So it's very similar experience to playing GTA 4 in 2008. Full Review »

Gaming has never been as bad, as it is today and that's a fact. In 2000-2010, there were 5-10 masterpieces every single year. Every year. But now? You get lucky to have one or two Good Games. No originality, nothing incredibly new or innovative, awful performance, that's what Gotham Knights is. Hopefully 2023 will be better year for gaming. Full Review »
