A continuation from the previous game and to me, that’s amazing. It plays as if I finished 2018 and booted up Ragnorak. Just a good game with graphics, story and stability!

A fun romp back into the world of the 2018 game. Not that much has changed in gameplay mechanics but a rich story does evolve. I thought this game was better than its predecessor but I do wish they would do more with combat.
Even so its well worth a play

That battle doesn't even feel like a battle. Kratos is a General but he doesn't command the army, I didn't even see that army. 6/10 only for good cutscenes and some interesting interactions between characters. Expand

Awesome game, but have lot of minor bad/meh things. For example: tooooooo muuuuch Atreus. Some quest is going boring, becouse: one more “puzzle” door, one more “puzzle” door, one more “puzzle” door. Story is good, but have minor meh moment and endig is… So is just ending. 8,5/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. God of War: Ragnarok truly delivered an epic conclusion to an iconic story-line in gaming history. The personal relationships between the characters were fully brought to life by great writing, emotionally resonant acting, and world-class animation. I think the way that Kratos strove to be a better father and was finally able to change his behavior after many years can be a meaningful message to everyone.

Everything else related to the game's technology, accessibility, and game mechanics also received notable improvements that were appreciated. My only frustration with this game was that the loading times were too long.

Absolutely love the 2018 Reeboot / Sequel to original trilogy, this one tho, this one takes it to another level. Everything is so epic , big ang grandiose. Love it. 2 games and not a new trilogy was a good decision tho, i think 3 games like this would drag it out and kill the hype. Good finish to the norse saga.

Feels like The Last of Us Part V (iking). The graphics are a little downgraded, but ok, they are very cool. PS4 still has so much unexplored potential before moving to 5. Wasting no time after the events of the first game, this amazing narrative took me on an incredible journey through nine beautiful realms seeking answers to seemingly unsolvable problems. Starting you off with all the weapons from the previous game, Ragnarok felt like a perfect continuation as though the first game had never ended. This shows in the narrative as you quickly meet new characters, both friend and foe alike, who carry the plot into entirely new directions and always leave you wondering what will happen next. The acting is superb for both the returning cast as well as some wonderful new additions like Odin, Thor, and Thrud. Story is definitely the highlight of this journey and it doesn't disappoint in the slightest, nor does the incredible gameplay with boss fights so incredible my jaw often dropped in complete amazement. There's little more I can say without venturing into spoilers, other than every aspect of this game was perfect. A tight and complete story, a whole new form of exploration, an amazing cast I found myself emotionally invested into, expanded combat, and a soundtrack that stands above many others. If you've not played these two incredible games I cannot recommend them enough; they did not need a trilogy to "be better." Expand

This game is incredible. Sony Santa Monica have once again absolutely blasted the ball out of the ballpark. It will bring you joy and it will bring you to tears... It's a continuation of a thrillingly action packed adventure story, wrapped up in a stunningly beautiful graphical package. This is what AAA gaming is and I'm so glad to be alive to experience this kind of flawless greatness.

GoW Ragnarok might be the best Playstation game that has been developed since The Last of Us (just above GoT). The mechanics, the combat, the story, the details, and the ending could be likely the end of the GOW saga. The mechanics, the combat, the story, the details, and the ending could be likely the end of the GOW saga. They do improve over GoW 2018; however, they introduced new parts of the games that were added poorly.

Some of the bad aspects of the game are:
    - There is some problem with pacing in the first half of the game. After the amazing intro and battle, we will have to explore new areas where basically most of the battles are very dull and there are too many puzzles that might feel you bored of it.
    - Extended artificial walking and climbing scene to tell you a story. This is personal, but just "playing" an automatic pilot part where you have to climb or walk while they tell you the story was a bad decision. I would have loved to do it as a cut scene.
    - The overpriced $10 for a PS4 game. We are still playing an old-generation game. There was no point to stop giving them an improved version like GOW 2018 had back then. The graphics are pretty much similar between versions and the use of the vibration and haptic feedback is at most unnoticeable. The damn gaps where you have to go through as loading screen.
    - Bugs at launch: Several parts where the music got bugged (no music suddenly) or the effects did not play properly. There were a couple of bugs that made me redo the sections. Frame drops on large areas. Many of them affected my experience.

Those are the reasons why this game is not getting a 9 or even a 10. The best game Playstation Studios has released in a while. I am Happy I could play it.

Really good game, with a few woke moments here and there but most of it is worth playing. Awesome gameplay, astonishing graphics and a really good story, I'm really glad we are finally able to see Kratos under a different light. It was a really good game.

God of War: Ragnarok is an utter masterpiece of a game. it is visually astonishing, constantly entertaining, and tells an absolutely beautiful story that defies every expectation that the original God of War would have loomed large over its sequel.

The only negatives I can offer about Ragnarok amount to two issues: The first is the game's occasional issues with pathing, where I was misled about where to go for a quest or two. This is a minor nitpick, and not something you should concern yourself with - in every other technical and performative aspect, this game is sublime, and performs with almost zero hiccups of any kind.

The second issue I have is that Ragnarok is a one-time sort of affair. The game is a highly evocative meditation on grief, identity, forgiveness, revenge and family - the performances from the game's cast of characters are all phenomenal, and the story is undeniably poetic and beautiful. But once this game's story is told, and the post-game is complete, it has given all that I believe it has to offer. The combat is fantastic, and the gameplay is all generally excellent. But the story is so central to the gameplay that playing through the game more than once feels pointless. In short: The approximately 40 hours you spend with this game will be incredible. But the replay value is not really there, in my opinion, and I think that this is the sacrifice Ragnarok chooses to make in order to tell such a moving story. I think this is an issue plaguing modern games like this, and similar 'story games' - Ghost of Tsushima and the Uncharted series seem like prime examples to me - do not offer enough variety in gameplay paths to make any more than one playthrough seem worthwhile to me. I hope that this approach to video games is not something we see become the norm, because I personally love games I can replay in different ways multiple times (i.e. Elden Ring and other build-based games).

Despite my aforementioned fears, I cannot possibly avoid giving Ragnarok anything but a perfect score. The story it tells is so powerful that I believe it can alter the way we choose to live our lives. What it lacks in replayability, it makes up for with the single marvelous punch it delivers. It is not the most fun game I have ever played, nor is it the best. But what it does, it does wonderfully, and it does so many of those things so excellently that anything but a "10" would be biased and begrudging. I hope that such beautiful stories, like the one Ragnarok tells, continue to populate the world of gaming as much as other, non-narrative-focused games - if Ragnarok is any indication of what may come, I look forward to what we can expect from game developers in the future.

A great game overall. You can clearly see how effort was put to this game. It's truly a masterpiece in the action genre. However, I found the story to be a little bit rushed. Some parts didn't make a lot of sense and felt like they were there for the story to continue. I definitely recommend it though.

Great addition on combat style and combat challenge not too difficult but not so relaxed as well certain in enemies at harder level they keep you entertained. I would say the story was slow in the first 3-4h of gameplay but it picked up greatly. I would say it is GOW 2018 upgraded with new story.

Few games have kept me engaged thoroughly for 40 + hours with both the gameplay, narrative and character interactions. The combat is some of the best 3rd person action i've experienced. The story is one of the best told in games thus far. Ragnarok is easily contender for game of the year, and even of the generation. Absolute masterpiece.

I can't help but tip my hat to the entire Santa Monica team. The deeper you delve into the game, the more you'll be drawn into the stunning story of a father and son against the backdrop of perhaps history's most horrific war. Throw in some casually endearing humour, great and fluid gameplay, and wrap it all up with an amazing audiovisual experience. [Issue#323]
